West Jones may struggle next year. Lost 1 senior D lineman before the season started. Lost best defender/overall player to injury and he was a senior. Will lose 3 other defensive starters, and 2 or 3 on the O line, and top 2 RB's. But due to injury and covid throughout the year they ended up rotating so many kids into starting positions here and there they had only 7 players that started every game. Almost 40 that started here and there. So they will have experience to fill the losses but those 2 big ones on defense hurt. Also some likely coaching changes will disrupt things.

It would be an instant powerhouse in any classification. But is projected to be a 5A. At least if they leave classifications alone. Also rumors that the MHSAA is looking at creating more classes with fewer teams in an effort to ease some of the schools that have to travel 3 hours give or take for division games.

Hearing rumors that they may be made to consolidate to begin 2024-2025. Anyone hearing similar?

You havn't paid any attention at all have you. My analysis and opinions are no more goofy than anyone elses. But anyone that has paid any attention to any of my posts on here knows that I do not consider the West Jones 2018 team as the greatest WJ team ever. That in my opinion, and many others, would be the 2003 team. I actually place our 2018 team around 5th or 6th of past teams. And there were photo's posted here, on various MS high school facebook groups, and even a video of the play you mention the qb's knee being down. And in only 1 photo, from that one angle, does it look like his knee was down and not laying on the would-be tacklers leg. Most of the others you couldn't see clearly due to another Picayune player standing in the way. Which the Ref that was standing right there not 10 feet away was looking right at, unobstructed. Not that it matters because we still would have beat you that game (final was 21-13 was it not?). We also were not favorites to win that game. There are many others over the years that believe that had this, or that, gone a bit different with their team on this or that year they would have won state. I am no different. Had West Jones not have lost their 2nd best player and defender for the season to covid the week before the season started, the best player overall the week before the Laurel game to a tore ACL, and had to start almost 40 different kids during the course of the season due to covid, and had 2 kids literally die, I believe they would have won 5A this year. Even to the point of having gone undefeated and beating the eventual 6A state champion in week 1. Thats simply my opinion (and also at least 1 coach on WJ's coaching staff).

if you were a poster on here before the last few weeks you would realize that this is what I do and have done since 2003 on these forums. I give zero craps about your opinion of me. Also, picayune fans cried from south state game in 2018 all the way till 2019 about how WJ wasn’t the better team in 18 after we beat y’all in south state. So bit my arse.
-
I find it amusing to think of how many times for every class except 6A that it would end up with 2 south teams playing for the title. Especially in classes 1-4.

Please. I am in the proper state of mind right now (not football related, just in general) to get myself permabanned. I feel the need to go all scorched earth somewhere over something. May as well be here.

I had made a post, but decided to not post it. But I know a few things about some things that happened that to be honest, I am taking a bit harder than I should. I have watched my team totally choke in games against teams it should have beaten over the years, or lost very close games against teams it probably wasn't supposed to beat but had a very good chance, but overall until last year come up short in any case. And it causes certain feelings. Then to finally get over that hump only to see another season derailed as this one was not because of another team, but events outside of anyone's actions causes............anger and resentment. Congratulations to Picayune on winning the games you had to win and getting the job done. I have zero doubt what so ever you will be the top dog in 5A next year. And rightfully so. But do not for one instant think that I do not believe that had a few things before the playoffs even started gone differently that WJ wouldn't have beat ya'll by 2 scores on their way to repeating.

5A north is generally always weak. Usually there are at most 2 teams up there that could have made the playoffs in the south. And West Point looks to be in prime position to start to fall off some as well. Especially if their coach retires as is rumored.
-
you can thank west jones and Hattiesburg for losing multiple senior starters for the year even before the season started.

West point 34 Picayune 21

he wasnt on the sideline for the west jones game. And it’s not health related. And the reason I was told isn’t really a reason to think he will be back this week. That’s as much as I am saying on here right now.
-
Also just realized this is laurels 6th south state game since 2011. And Picayune’s 5th in that same time.
-
Keep in mind laurel coach is t currently coaching the team
-
I actually think Laurel beats us by 30
-
Wj Gona loose this if they don’t figure something out. This team has been totally flat since they one kid was lost in accident and best player tore acl.
-
Again west jones gets a big lead then goes to sleep. may not survive this one.

Is every team in 5A south very heavy on the 10th and 11th graders right now? West Jones had 12 seniors returning from last years team as of the spring. By week 2 they were down to 10. And as of 3 weeks ago, its 6. They have had a slightly different starting rotation each of the last 3 games with 12-14 starters being soph's or juniors. They are also rotating a LOT during the games changing up the lineups. At one point they had 4 9th graders on the field this year.
-
I got Brookhaven wining this by 10-14.
-
The only way GC wins this is if Laurel loses the turnover margin by 4 or more. That has been Laurel's weakness all year. If Laurel doesn't turn it over more than twice, then GC is getting blown out.
-
I was just agreeing with his statement that when you turn the ball over and the other team starts in your territory they can't help but score. Thats what happened in the WJ/Hattiesburg game. 14 Hattiesburg points came after WJ turnovers inside the WJ 30 yard line. Hattiesburg scored its other points also after a WJ turnover on their side of the 50. So whats the difference? I am sure neither Hattiesburg nor Laurel had reserves in in the first half (well maybe Laurel did half-way into the 2nd Q) when the turnovers were ongoing then.
