Laurel can not throw the ball. 2 games niw I watched and he just chunks it and they rely on the receivers to make a play. The vast majority of the time the throes are no where near catchable. They very much miss that qb from last year. overall they look small at skill positions. Could just be the massive lines they have on both sides of the ball throwing off the image. They do not wrap up on tackles. They didn’t really have success moving the ball till late when Brookhaven was tired. And they don’t seem well coached. Im 100% in agreement with slicks comments about them earlier in the year. We are about to see them slide into mediocrity for a bit. And the school administration has a lot of blame for it.

Laurel edged Brookhaven 7-6 in a game of teams who seemed to want to let the other team win. Brookhaven went for 2 point try and failed was the difference. I bet both teams had 20 penalties. Just an ugly game. And laurel seems to be getting worse every week. They get a cakewalk the next 2 weeks (Natchez then south jones) before hosting west jones. And if they don’t straighten that ship by then WJ will embarrass them.

Very much so it seems.

Laurel and Brookhaven tied at 0 at the half. West Jones 17 Natchez 7 about 5 minutes till half.

South jones is bad. Very bad. Hattiesburg should have no worry with this game.

Meridian handed Laurel that game. 6 turnovers. 2 were pick 6 and 3 were on meridians side of the field. Laurel scored all their points off the turnovers and short field. And in what is supposed to be a down year for d’iberville they went for 2 and failed and lost by 1. It’s not like Laurel just beat them down.

West Jones beat Brookhaven 24-6. WJ has got to stop the turnovers.

Game was at Florence btw. laurels defense is not good. They are big. But not athletic big. Flabby big. And slow. And they look confused just running around. Like they aren’t being coached. They they do not wrap up on tackles. But their defense is better than their kick coverage. Florence did nothing fancy. They lined up mostly with 2 in backfield. Sometimes 3. The o line shifts a lot and 9.5 times out of 10 they run to that side. They play their assignments and don’t shoot them selves in the foot. The rb is tall, athletic, and fast. Spins a lot. Laurel never brought him down with 1 tackler. laurel looked unmotivated all game. On 3 drives they lined up with that huge line and it’s ran behind their 2 future d1 linemen down the field. The rest of the time they were hit in the backfield. 3 of the o line pass the eye test. They big. But the Florence d line was off at the snap and passed them before they could react.

West jones 14 Brookhaven 0. just into the 3rd. West could have put the game already if not for turnovers.

Ill be honest. Right now it’s very clear picayune is #1 in 5A. And there is a huge gap between them and #2 and no one seems to want to be #2. as far as region 4-5A. Laurel, west jones and Wayne county look to be playoff locks. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to get into multiple tie breaker scenarios to get seeding. Natchez maybe number 4. The rest of the teams look to be really bad.

Laurel has no defense. Any opposing the am that can hold them under 24 should win.

So region 3-5A May not be as log jammed at the top as thought. Laurel has no defense at all but a all world offense. Any team that holds them below 28 points should beat them. Hell you’re not out of the game apparently even if they score 40 on you. Will make the playoffs cause there are probably 3 teams in district that can’t score 20 in a game. Hattiesburg looks to have lost its season with their 2 qb’s getting hurt and May be in a fight with south jones to see who sucks the least. brookhaven didn’t look good at all in the games they actually played. natchez looks like the best all around team but they need to quit playing teams that havnt had a winning season since their players were born before we can tell for sure. First test will be against west jones. Florence seems improved but likewise played bad teams. Wayne count has been Jekyll and Hyde thus far jury is out on them. probably will make the playoffs. west jones practiced 2 days in 2 weeks due to storms before getting smoked by Madison central to start the year and since then have been trying to get back to having a scored more points on the year than MC scored on them in that one game against teams what wont win 3 games put together. Still likely to make the playoffs.

Laurel will not 6A and I would about put money on that. They will be 5A. NEJ I was told had about 70 stundents more now than the last 2 years and they were close to being 5A last reclass. South Jones is larger then laurel but about 100 below west jones. WJ will be 6A but the rest will likely be 5A.

seriously doubt they split up the jones county schools into different districts. also north pike is technically farther south than south jones.
