In 04 and 05 WJ had 94 kids on the roster. and WJ’s jr high team been very hood the last 3 years. I know of at least 1 assistant coach at a nearby school (in our division actually) that while they were undergoing coaching changes the assistant was hoping if he wasn’t retained he could get on at west because, and I quote, “West Jones is loaded for bear the next 3 or 4 years”. We will go as far as our QB (historically with our coaching staff this is the case) turnovers (an issue the last 2 years and seems to be trending this year so far) or Covid will allow.

yep. I was told over 90 on the roster. 12 returning starters. 6 of the returners were out vs Madison central including a rb, 2 o line, wr, d line and a lb. many other kids did not make the trip to Madison. This week a lb is playing rb. There are about 9 sophomores that started this game. After halftime it was basically 10 of them in offense and half the defense. This years senior class isn’t that big. But it has some key guys on it. We got a je that could be dandy dozen next year. And 2 10th graders that could be by their senior years. But covid is messing with kids by decreasing playing time and such so who knows what kind of effect it will have on everyone. WJ truly has a team that could repeat and in fact is said to be the reason our coach didn’t retire after last year.

West jones threw all the 10th graders in after halftime. Some bad snaps to 10th grade allows a safety. Then after wj punts nej gets hood return with a 15 yard penalty tacked on. WJ 28 NEJ 2. And threatening in 3rd. edit: wj blocks NEJ field goal attempt and just handing the ball off up the middle every play trying to kill clock and not run the score up.

that’s understandable. sadly covid is going to have a large say for some teams as it did last year (starkville last year for instance). West jones is missing a lot of starters now and has a number of 10th graders on the field and multiple guys playing iron man. This will not be a good thing if this goes all year.

West jones 28 northeast jones 0 almost halftime. wj turnover issues from last year are still a thing otherwise the score would be worse. Wj still missing a number of starters as they now have kids playing both ways. A lb is playing rb which he hasn’t done ever as far as I can tell.

I hate it for you guys too. Mostly because I thought y’all would beat out Vicksburg for that 4th seed. Guess I have to rely on Brookhaven. But as of right now you guys, Florence and south jones in for a hard time.

Hattiesburg might win 3 games. Maybe. And I’m not sure of that. 1?? How is Florence? That defense it not as advertised and they may have the worst offense in 5A.

Turnovers leading directly to the other team scoring points is the only reason WJ did not win every single game they played last year by 20 points. And had 2 turnovers against MC in the red zone. Had they had 3-4 of those missing kids against MC they likely win that game by double digits.

I do not have the exact numbers but I had been hearing all week the game was on verge of being cancelled. WJ was rumored to hold practices with half the overall roster all week. I was told not just 6 starters were out but 6 of the returning 12 starters. But there were more players than that that did not make the trip. 2 kids said to be in the hospital. I know at south jones there are over 60 kids out and 13 teachers. Teachers are complaining that the school district is trying to not go virtual but the infections are climbing too fast. I would be surprised if Jones county schools aren’t going virtual or hybrid in the next 2 weeks.

Hey Hattiesburg. You guys may not make the playoffs this year. Not without covid knocking some of your division mates down.

Prayers for him. My dad passed this past Tuesday after 10 days on a vent.

It’s 21-14 before halftime. And West Jones has 6 starters out of the game.

That west jones/Madison game will be closer than that unless one team implodes. And WJ will score more than 10.

The jamboree at Wayne County has been cancelled.

Its about to happen to a lot more teams. And I was told the Stone County situation was likely to be extended past 14 days. They are talking about possibly doing it for 2 months. Over 200 kids are in quarantine. Started with the band. I also know that Wayne County had a "when. not if" meeting today as they had 91 kids out. Hattiesburg is in a panic over the numbers and also considering shutting it down a couple weeks. We will be lucky if this football season is completed. Almost everyone is assured to have some forfeit games at this point.

Making week 1 an exhibition at least gives both teams a chance to have an unofficial game/practice vs just not doing it at all. FCAHS went virtual as of yesterday. By next week I bet we start seeing forfeits of games due to more schools starting back over the course of the next week.

laurel returns I think 7 starters on defense including the entire line. They did lose all the skill position players on offense. But yes, I agree. If natchez is to get in the playoffs like some are saying it will be over laurel.
