Merlin
That can’t be right. Laurel would not hold a single tie breaker.

Only in a 5 way tie 2-3 each maybe but those negative numbers hurt. They don't get in on a 3 way tie for 4th having lost to Wayne. He obviously didn't look at the negative numbers against 3 out 4 in a 3 way tie. Laurel loses on tie breaker #1 head to head. But does tie breaker get broken. If not and #2 is the result of Laurel getting in by defeating Gautier. However no 5 way tie with Wayne/Vancleave winner. Their best chance is a 4 way tie however their out with a 1-3 head to head. Merlin
They have 0 district wins. If they beat Gautier to give them 1 they will still not have a head to head advantage vs anyone they would be tied with.

maroontide06
Region 2-7A is a monster. Germantown might be on the outside looking in and that's not a bad football team at all. None of them are.

There's no possibility of a 5-way tie in Region 4-5A, Bert, since winner of Vancleave at Wayne County will have 3 region wins.

coastalball
Since we're talking about South 5A and have all these different possibilities because literally every single team somehow still has a way to make it into playoffs - what scenario would y'all be fans us in terms of matchups? We know Gautier will be going against Natchez. Rematch from last year with two high powered offenses. But what matchups would you guys be interested in? I think Wayne v Brookhaven would be pretty funny. Vancleave vs Florence and Stone v South Jones would both be pretty entertaining matchups. Rebel Bert
Laurel has a -3, -9, -12, +12. They need to win by 12. There will not be a 5 way tie. Wayne County Vancleave winner is in.
Hash_Marks
Hope Vancleave is ready and motivated to play after a dissapointing result last week. Shake off the long bus ride and be set to go - playing to host a playoff game for first time since 2015 with a win.
PigskinPrognosticator
In multi team tiebreakers, the #1 is record against the highest seeded team. With a win over Gautier, Laurel has that tiebreaker over everyone else. Highly unlikely but there is a chance..
Mississippi Queen
Now that we know the 7A playoff matchups, who you got? I'll say North State matchup will be Tupelo vs Madison Central. Tupelo is having a great year, but cannot seem to make it happen in playoffs. It looks like their year - but I wouldn't be surprised to see MCHS there either. South State will be the usual suspects, Brandon & OG. That's a toss up. 1st game this season was at Brandon and they won a close one with a couple of OG playmakers sidelined for injury. South State would be back in Brandon & home field advantage is everything. But, either of these teams beating the other 2x in one season seems unlikely. So I'm going to play the odds here and say OG will be the South Champ and face Tupelo in the 7A game in their own back yard at USM for the title. I hate the biggest game of the MHSAA year being on a Thursday night. Why aren't they doing Friday/Sat/Sun instead of Thur/Fri/Sat?

Mississippi Queen
I never thought so either - but is that not better than a statewide playoff on a Thursday night 4-5 hours away from home for some? All these kids playing travel ball all weekend. What's the difference?

Games take 2.5 hrs already. But title games take almost 3hrs to play because they are televised and have those tv timeouts. Watch how long the title games last in a few weeks Yeah, I'm not sure what the answer is. But whoever is playing those Thursday games gets screwed - especially if they are big schools with big student body populations who tend to travel well. That takes a whole lot of student participation out of the question - especially when games are not centrally located. These games in Hattiesburg are 4+ hours away from a lot of these North State schools. Kids cannot go by themselves and stay overnight. Parents cannot take off 2 days work (Thursday & Friday) just so their kids can go watch a game. And then for the parents of athletes who cannot afford to lose 2 days money right here at Christmas. They can't even go watch their own kids play these games. I know when Horn Lake traveled to USM in 2018 and won the 6A championship, the footage showed hardly any fans present. Like maybe 100? How sad for the team. And they won!
