Brookhaven and Gautier are the two best teams out of South 5A as of this point. Everybody else though like you said is sound asleep.

Cleveland Central is a team no one is talking about that is sitting at 8-0 with a very talented QB that’s committed to Tulane. They’ve got their biggest test Friday night at home against Holmes County for the Region 2 #1 seed. Brandon Shields has them at #3 in 5A. Prob gonna be the most competitive 5A North playoffs we’ve seen since the addition to 7 classes.

I also have not seen Cleveland Central play so it might surprise me

Holmes County and Canton will play for the #2 seed next Friday. Winner gets #2 and loser gets #3. Yazoo City locked up #4 seed with their win against Greenville last night. This been festering for a few years and just now coming to a head. Everyone on the outside paying attention could see it. Laurel and their fans do not. But this won’t go away quickly and it’s much deeper than the coaches.

The same thing that's happening in Laurel is also happening in Meridian, maybe only worse!

Laurel needs new leadership but not sure necessarily it's the head coaches. He won at Collins. It has to be a combination of things.

It has to be a combination of things. Combination of quite a few things. Not the least of which is fans in the players ears. All the way down to youth and pee-wee programs. Filling the kids heads full of nonsense and the coaches can’t break it by the time they get to high school. Also some administration issues as pigskin said from the superintendent office on down going back to the prior staff. There are reasons Todd breland left. And there’s more still. Doesn’t matter who’s coaching them. They likely won’t get a better coach at this point anyway. Edited November 2, 2024 by Merlin

It's how you do it that can be bad or good for a team or player.
