Still think Ole Miss has to win several games in Nashville to have a real chance. Maybe win the whole thing.

For State I kinda see the following scenarios for the next three games (last two regular season and first SECT game)

3-0 - 7 seed

2-1 - 8 seed

1-2 - 9 or 10 seed

0-3 - sweating it on Selection Sunday but possibly still in depending on other dominos

I think anything above a 7 seed would require State winning out AND winning the SEC tourney, or at least coming dang near close to that.

State really doesn’t need to lose out and get bounced the first round.  That would be a 5 game skid with a selection committee that never gives State or OM the benefit of the doubt.

Im not saying State deserves to be in riding a 5 game losing streak, because they don’t.   Just saying they need to avoid that at all costs.

I also saw this weekend that Pearl and Calipari are the only 2 coaches in the last 25 years, I believe, to make the NCAAT their first two years. That would be a big deal for Jans to join that group.

I won’t say it’s not a possibility because who knows, but this State team losing 5 in a row and missing the tourney would really be something.

Like it’s not very surprising they had an 0-2 week against Kentucky and Auburn, kinda thought that might happen. But following that up with three more losses to A&M, SC, and somebody like a A&M/OM/LSU in Nashville would really be a collapse not many saw coming. Their longest losing streak all season is 2 and they’ve had some brutal stretches to get through. Collapsing here at the end would be a shock to me.

I think there’s a decent chance State has a 2-0 week this week. But I fully expect them to win at least one of these games. I think they match up pretty well with A&M and are simply the better team, and I believe at home they SHOULD beat Carolina.

Lady Rebs and Lady Dawgs close out the regular season with wins.

State rallied from a slow first half to win by 15 over Mizzou. They finish the regular season 21-10 and 8-8 in SEC play. #8 seed in the SEC tourney. Will get an opening game against Texas A & M and then South Carolina if they win that one. Right now State is one of the last 4 in. I think Thursday is a must win for State to get in with Texas A & M also being a bubble team.

Ole Miss continues to annihilate teams as of late. 44 point home win over Arkansas, who was on the bubble until today. Rebs finish 22-7 and 12-4 in SEC play. Will be the #3 seed and get a double bye in the SEC tournament. Will be the winner of either Vandy/Florida/Missouri. Most likely will be Vandy. Ole Miss is currently #8 seed in the NCAAs. These recent wins are against the strongest opponents but gotta think a 44 point victory in the SEC is pretty impressive.

State showed last year that had the goods when it mattered and made the Sweet 16 as one of the last 4 in. Hopefully both teams can get in and make some noise. But Ole Miss needs to get out of that 8/9 game. Can’t imagine lightning striking 2 years in a row for an upset of a #1 team on their home court.

State totally collapsing at the end of regular season was inexplicable even if there was drama within the squad. Losing to KY & FL at Home was inexcusable. So yes beating A&M is a must if we want to make the Tournament. Hopefully whatever the issue was has been settled now.

Ole Miss finished up strong after a period of struggles. It seems that game was the watershed for both teams. After OM won that game it turned their season around and sent State into a tailspin.

Lunardi has moved State to a 9 seed in his Tuesday update. One more win should seal this, hopefully it comes this week, if not two wins.

Ole Miss and Texas A&M not even mentioned in his first eight teams out. Still a lot of work to do for both to even have a chance:

Maybe I shouldn't pay any attention to it, but why does the ESPN analytics give Texas A&M a 60% chance to win?  Is it because it's an away game for State?  You would think State would be favored against them.

I think its because its so hard to win on the road in the SEC. Same reason they had State favored against Kentucky in mens basketball

It is a road game and A&M is a weird team. Very capable on any given night to win a game. But at the same time, I believe if State comes out and takes care of the ball, hits some threes at a decent percentage and do the same at free throw line, we will win this game.

We will see how it plays out.

A&M is EXTREMELY weird.

Wins: Tennessee, Kentucky, Iowa State.

There aren’t many teams with those caliber of wins.

BUT

Losses: Vandy, Arkansas (x2), LSU at home, Ole Miss at home.

I mean…. What???

And that should do it for OM’s at-large hopes. Unable to beat a struggling Georgia team. Ole Miss will be in the NIT barring a miracle SEC tourney championship run.

Yep.

BUT, even IF Ole Miss loses hosting A&M Saturday along with losing game 1 of the SECT... I won't complain a bit considering it's Beard's first year.

I give him credit for getting a lot of mileage out of the players he had. But you are correct that the portal has been and is going to continue to be a huge factor in basketball.

State is losing Smith, Matthews, Moore, Davis, Jeffries and Bell. I know we have young talent coming up the pipeline but Jans is definitely going to have to hit the portal hard. Of course, available playing time is a factor as well along with $$$ with seeking players through the portal.

Matthews and Moore both have extra years they can use and could be back. Cam likely will be back, Shak is just gonna depend on who State brings in from the portal.

Will have to throw some big $$$ to Hubbard or he will be plucked away by one of the blue blood of college basketball.

Tennessee at SC tonight has SEC championship implications for both. Who saw that coming? Vols win the league outright with a win tonight. With an SC win, the game in The Hump on Saturday is suddenly an SEC championship game for SC (and could also be very important for State’s tourney chances if they don’t win tonight).
