Region 3 5 and Region 4 5a

Hattiesburg’s non district schedule isn’t a cakewalk at all. You should beat Petal. I’ll give you that. Then you have Oak Grove and Ocean Springs who I think are favorites in their regions. Then a much improved Meridian team

Can’t disagree with that statement. I forgot Petal doesn’t have Boyles anymore.

If HHS goes 2-2 in the first 4 games it will be an awesome start!  That will be hard to do with that schedule…

The non region schedule will surely have them prepared for region play. If they went 2-2 who you have them beating?

Petal and Ocean Springs. But I think Ocean Springs is a stretch. I think the Petal game will be revealing. Either way it’s going to benefit HHS playing up for the rest of the season.

I think they can steal the game from ocean springs. Playing meridian at home I think HHS can win that one as well.

I have no clue what Hattiesburg will look like but I think they can go anywhere from 1-3 to 3-1 in non district. Petal I can’t imagine will be world beaters at least early on. OG is OG. Ocean Springs returns a good bit from a playoff team that arguably should’ve made it to south state. And Meridian has took their lumps the last few years but I don’t expect them to be bad again. And they have a really good young running back.

I just find it funny that a Long Beach poster is on here talking about how bad he thinks HHS is gonna be when he should be worrying about his own team who hasnt sniffed the playoffs since 2011, has only 2 playoff wins in their history and hasnt had a winning season since 2010.

My predictions about 5A South

 

Region 3-5A

West Jones  (Returns enough everywhere except QB to win it all again.  Big question at QB. But most experienced coaching staff in the south)

Wayne County  (New coach but with more experience than prior 2 coaches. Does the players buy in? We know they have talent despite loosing a ton)

Hattiesburg  (Young. Should have a lot of talent.)

Laurel  (Lost all their weapons from last year.  They have a coach with experience building championship teams. But may be starting from scratch).

South Jones  (2nd year being coached by Todd Breland. There is some excitement of here about being more improved this year)
Natchez  (Depending on what forum your on some say they have like 4 D1 kids.  But its natchez, they always suck.  Can the coaches take advantage of talent? I think no)

Brookhaven  (Having some down years)

Florence  (Painful introduction to 5A)

 

Region 4-5A:  Honestly, I think Gautier returns the most talent so I want to put them at the top.  But I feel like you could put any of them, Picayune, East Central and George County anywhere in the top 4 and be ok.  They will likely get swept out of the first round of the playoffs at any rate.

Coaches have come and gone over the last two decades at Gautier, and the one thing that has remained a constant is mediocrity.

Ocean Springs has 15 starters back including 10 on offense. They’ll easily be the best team on the coast this year I think

Should be. But they go up and down a lot. When they are supposed to have a down yr they rise and play well. When expectations are high they disappoint.

I expect George County to win Region 4-5A. They have some great talent and athletes right now. Gautier may be the only team in the regions with the athletes to match them. Gautier is a mixed bag for me. They return a stud QB, but he lost his leading targets from last season and the Offensive Line was shaky at times. Defensively, they lost a fair amount of players as well but are bringing in a new DC from East Central. They always have nice looking players on the sideline and talent. However, the HFC they have is one I do not have much faith in currently. Picayune I expect to bounce back. Dowdle is a powerful back that I think will be a LOAD for defenses to stop. This will be a make or break year for Stogner. If they struggle or look bad like they did at the end of last season, he will be gone sooner rather than later. East Central has probably the most returning of the region 4-5A teams. However, apparently the school is in a huge mess right now with allegations of misconduct from superintendents and staff including the HFC. Collins has pretty much lost all community/player support from what I have heard. Will surprised if he is still employed there after this season. So I'm not sure how that situation is going to play out. PRC will be the "best of the rest". They may sneak their way into the playoffs, but it will not be easy. They will be tough, gritty and physical. However, they will struggle matching up with some of the top teams athletes. West Harrison and Vancleave will be slugging it out for the last place spot. Not much talent or athletes at either place right now. I will say I have been told Vancleave is expected to be really tough in the coming years with a solid freshmen and sophomore class. To me, your 4 playoff teams (I would almost place a heavy bet on these teams too) are George County, Gautier, Picayune and East Central in no particular order.

So if PRC sneaks into the playoffs, and you think that GC will win the region, who are you thinking will be the team left out?  Also sounds as if you would have Gautier finishing 2nd.

Whoa now! Do not go putting words in my mouth lol. East Central is the wild card to me. If the kids are not bought in and do not play for Collins, I could see them dropping some games they should win. To me, right now, George County is 1. You can place whoever you want in spots 2-4. Gautier's offensive line and receivers will have to step up. The defense is also a question mark as well. If they can shore those things up, then yes I could see Gautier as a 2 seed. However, right now, you could put whoever you wanted there and I would be okay with it.

 I thing you can pencil in WC, West and Hattiesburg for the post season,  Laurel may miss the playoffs. I love Earnest but he can't put a competent defense on the field at this level. He did his best work in 2A. Them along with the other teams will be a bay of pigs fighting for the fourth spot.
