Bulldogs4
Pretty simple. We got destroyed tonight. No ifs ands or buts about it. I do think Lebby will get us back in to a competitive state but we are going to be on the short end for the next couple of years. The damage done post Leach’s death has been devastating. Not making excuses but we are worse than any Croom team and rival 2002 State team that was the worst that we have been over the last 25 years. But as bad as tonight was, it is not even close to how bad we were in the late 1960’s. I was completely wrong about tonight and this season quite frankly. I had false sense of hope that we were going to be at least competitive this year. That is not going to be the case.

Dawg83
Mississippi State football is on life support. This is the absolute worst time in the history of college football to not have your house in order. And State has suffered through six years of poor decision making and totally squandered all the goodwill of the Mullen era. Mark Keenum did this. John Cohen did this. Zac Selmon has contributed to this (been here for two years now, buddy, grace period is over). Four different head coaches have played key roles in this. It has been a total failure of leadership at every level for State. State will become the lowest of lows in the Power 4 if they do not make major corrections and do it fast. You are on the verge of losing an entire generation of fans (i.e. hopeful future donors) with this level of incompetence. It is even a proven fact that success of a football team is a clear factor in enrollment numbers for a university. The fan culture is in an absolutely stupid spot too right now. If I hear one more person wishing that Lane Kiffin will leave Ole Miss…. I swear…. WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT OLE MISS RIGHT NOW??? If State people put half the effort into their own program that they did caring about what is happening in Oxford, maybe you’d still be in a respectable spot. You have officially just had another Maine caliber loss tonight. A MAC team came to your house and beat you 41-17. It is an embarrassment and disgrace to everyone who has ever cared about MSU football to allow that result to happen. I don’t think there could be anything more symbolic than what happened in pregame with Gabe Jackson trying to do the Celebrity Cowbell Ringer thing and the cheap, junior high quality contraption doesn’t work and then it tumbles over on itself. Inexcusable product on every level imaginable. Welcome back to the dark days, State fans. All we can do is hope that strong leadership is on the way soon that can truly enact real progress and change again.

Bulldogs4
I don’t think we are on life support. But last night was and I think will be the low point. I get your frustration 83 and we are now at ground zero. Do you have any suggestion on what could have been done differently when Leach died? That created a conundrum of events leading to where we are today. 20-20 hindsight is perfect. I think Dr. Keenum did the most appropriate thing he could do at the time given the circumstances. Would it have been better to make Arnett temporary through the bowl game? Obviously given what we know now, the answer is yes. But at the time a great majority the fan base was on board with that decision. Unfortunately, that was not done. We need to keep supporting Lebby & Co. and give him the time he needs to develop his program. That is going to be longer than we all anticipated. But it is not impossible either. There will be lower points when SEC play starts. Most State fans were okay this season with possibly not getting in a bowl game if they hit 5 wins and were competitive in most losses. I don’t see them being competitive in any SEC play. Last night was at home, so those decent home SEC matchups will be more of the same. 83 is right, it is a horrible time in college football to be THAT bad. You have to have fan $uppprt and losses like this will make it even more challenging for a program that was already financially challenged to start with. A cap on player pay and some type of contract that allows you to get value when a player leaves after he has a decent season can’t come fast enough for schools like State. However, who will make that happen? The NCAA has practically no authority anymore.
