CFB Week 3

Not an amazing week of games on the surface but we’ll see what happens.

Ole Miss is favored by 23 at Wake Forest, who lost at home to Virginia last week. I find it humorous that this game is on The CW, stick around after it’s over and you can catch reruns of Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill! Ole Miss is winning this game big. I’ll say 45-14 final score.

State just shy of a 12 point favorite against Toledo. I have some unease about this game but I like State to bounce back. I think the risk of looking ahead to Florida is way lower after the ASU loss. I do think it’s competitive for a while but State pulls away late. I’ll say 38-21 final.

Alabama (-16) at Wisconsin - I wish the Badgers were better because this could be a really fun environment at Camp Randall. I think Bama wins but just misses the cover.

LSU (-7) at South Carolina - heck I don’t have a dang clue on either of these teams. I’ll give SC the home cover but I think LSU wins a close one.

Boston College at Mizzou (16.5) - first test for Mizzou against a now ranked BC. I love the contrast of styles here. I think BC covers but Mizzou wins at home.

Texas A&M (-4) at Florida - here is another “I don’t have a clue” game for you. I don’t think either team is all that good. I guess I’ll go UF at home, but if Billy loses this, I think he’s coaching for his job in Starkville next weekend.

I rewatched the Wake Forest/Virginia game yesterday and their offense could make it close early on. Got some speedy guys at WR that can stretch the field and a speedy elusive RB. Their QB is gritty but their biggest weakness I saw was their OL. Gave up I think 6-7 sacks. I hope I’m wrong but this game gives me the kind of feeling of the 2022 Vandy game on the road where the fans were jacked up looking for an upset and it helped Vandy get a 10 point lead early on and a halftime lead before Ole Miss turned it around in the 2H. This game is sold out but not sure how many of that is from Ole Miss fans.

State, Ole Miss, Bama all cover

USCe covers and maybe even wins the game.

BC covers. Misery is good but BC is not a bad team at all.

Oregon State covers and hopefully wins.

Not really sure about A&M-Florida. That might be the ugliest game of the weekend. Look for a low scoring boring game. 13-10 type of game but I don’t know who is going to win it.
Tulane covers the points at Okie.
Another intriguing game is Washington State @ Washington. Sentimental favorite is the Cougs but I would like to see Rogers play well for Washington. Give the home team the edge but I would not be surprised by a Wazzou victory.

And back to the State game. After seeing the stats of the Toledo-UMASS game, if State does not roll in this game, it will be disappointing. They don’t appear to be even close to the team they have been over the last two seasons.

It’s hard to tell much so early in the season.

Biggest surprise? has to be Vandy.

Hardest to figure out? South Carolina.

Most impressive win? Texas drilling Michigan.

Yeah and then you’ve got teams like Ole Miss and Mizzou who I THINK are very good but they’ve played the CFB equivalent of Pisgah and Noxapater so far so it’s hard to know for sure or exactly how good they are.

Ole Miss' DL is nasty. If Wake gave 6 sacks to VA, it'll be ugly quick.

Yes, nothing about ASU looks that great now.

Looks like they may beat them. That's really a bad look for MSU. Hate to be so negative, but it is what it is.

I'm a pretty casual observer, but does Texas State not look more athletic and better coached than MSU did?

Texas State is an up and coming football program. Certainly no slouch as they were favored in this game. ASU is improved as well but with game being at TSU it is no surprise that it is a close game.

Regarding State. Until we prove otherwise our defense is just plain bad. If we win any games this year we will have to score N of 40 points to do so.

I have a different take on it than yall, I actually feel slightly better about State after that result, Texas State was a 3 point favorite and is a strong G5 program on the rise. GJ Kinne is going to be an SEC or Big 12 head coach soon. That was a nice road win for ASU.

State may well be terrible still, but I don’t think ASU is the Big 12 bottom feeder they were projected to be. FPI has their likely final record at 7-5 now.

The two I would stay away from if I was a betting man... Florida/A&M and LSU/USC, especially Florida/A&M.

I'm wondering about Auburn. IF they clean up turnovers, they would have won easily vs Cal and MAYBE aren't as bad as they've looked so far? Hugh's habit of throwing everyone (coaches/players) under the bus makes me lean things won't get better.

Wake is the best test Ole Miss has faced so far, and it really shouldn't be a test. Wake is a P5 team, but isn't a great P5 team by far.

The MSU/Toledo game is one to keep an eye on also. Toledo is well coached and will beat quite a few teams, but if MSU plans to go bowling... this is almost a "must win."

Bama SHOULD roll, but we'll see if they were just sleepwalking last week for 3 quarters or if there are real issues there. I figure Bama will roll and was just sleepwalking... it happens.

@rebmus I see Auburn is going with another QB tomorrow so looks like Thorne’s time is done with. I figured that was coming after last week. Not sure what’s going to happen with the A&M/Florida game because Weigman is questionable for A&M. Mertz will be starting again for Florida but Lagway is still suppose to get some playing time.
