slicklizard Posted November 21, 2021 Share Posted November 21, 2021 Can’t wait . Picayne defense is tough and very physical. Laurel defense has really come on the last half of the season. The only team they faced with that packed in offense was us and we were throwing into the end zone at the end for the win. Laurel likes to get up a couple of scores and play soft defense at the end to make the other team burn clock. The QB 2 days ago was out 5 weeks ago due to covid/injury, not really sure. I thought if WJ stopped Benjamin 2 days ago they could win, and they did a decent job there. But after 2 long TD passes in the 1st Qtr that hit the receivers in stride, it was apparent that just stopping Benjamin was not going to be enough. Benjamin is really good an now that they have a QB that can throw it well, I don't know how you game plan them. I understand. The last 4 opponents for Picayune were Long Beach, Gautier, Hattiesburg, and Brookhaven. Long Beach is bad. Gautier is one dimensional, Hattiesburg had no QB (I wasn’t there but saw clips) and it looked like they ran a different offense than usual because of that? Brookhaven cannot throw. Their QB is an athlete but looks like he’s trying to throw a 10lb shot when he throws. GC was best offense Picayune played other than maybe a Gulfport and I’d say they’re better than Gulfport. GC QB went down on first drive and freshman QB came off the bench and led 5 TD drives. The defense is there to be exploited by someone who knows how. Laurel is very balanced they’re better at running the ball IMO but they can throw and they have some dudes to throw to. It will be close but unless Laurel craps the bed in this one I think they win.
