Also he lost his Father during his last season at WC again I’m not sure if that played into it. Shetland is way in over his head in this classification. He could probably do alright at a place like Heidelberg or Perry Central but that’s his ceiling. I seen so many in game mistakes dealing with refs , marking off penalties incorrectly, chain crews not moving the chains when they should and clock issues I lost count. He just looked right past it and acted like he had rather be somewhere else. He won’t be there long if he is commuting. Meridian will tire of his lackadaisical act quickly. The real object of Meridians ire should be Petal. Once again they see someone else doing well and their jealousy leads them to buying the coach off. They won’t ever sniff a title with or without Coach Boyles. I love Marcus but his hands are dirty in this too. Going to a place where he has to beat up on the kids he was just coaching? I can’t roll with that. Never have. Just calling it like I see it. Karma needs to come calling on him and the panthers in the form of getting a foot broke off in that arse every time they go up against those heavyweights in that district. Screw Petal. Bulldogs4 Posted January 24, 2024 Share Posted January 24, 2024 Slick, this whole thing with Boyles going back to Petal does smell like a three day old fish. Second go arounds rarely if ever go well on any level (and yes I know there a few rare exceptions). I agree that Petal is a high floor but a low ceiling job. He was just there for nine years. Quite frankly money had to be the only reason he went back to Petal. And he was making a boat load of it in Meridian. Leaves me shaking my head. Obviously, Meridian is not the job it was 10 years ago or for the previous 90 years. But he did a nice job last year. Daniel Hill was a generational talent but the team had some talent spread around as well. The middle schools are well stocked with talent so I think he could have had a good run at Meridian going forward. It does leave most of us with a raw feeling that this was not right. Marcus probably just regretted leaving the first time to see the program take such a large step back. I believe that ruling was overturned that you are talking about. Petal has taken a step back after a bad coaching hire but Boyles will have us competitive again quickly. The kids had already graduated and left the area so there was no reason to pursue it. (And I think Putal quit paying the attorneys) Funny how they never hang around it being such a great place and all. Also never have any success to speak of unless it’s with “transfers”. Petal has been one of the most consistant programs in the state up until the last few years. Oak Grove has been recruiting our kids away for almost two decades. I woudnt be suprised to see a lot more move ins at Petal with Marcus back. Then i'm sure you and everyone else will claimed we illegally recruited them too. Everyone of the state's top programs recruit kids. It is not anything new. So if you do get move ins, it will most likely be 90% because they were illegally recruited.
