That was a sudden change.

wonder why Jones College refuses to recruit kids from jones county.  That coach there is an idiot and needs to go.  I honestly had thought Boyles would end up there a year or two after retiring from Petal the first time.

Could it be that Jones Co kids may want to go someplace else?  After the rule was done away with that you could only have so many kids from outside your area on your team and you could recruit from all over, not many players stayed in the area. This really started back in 2003 at PRCC when they won the national JUCO title and had all those D1 players from all over the southeast go play there.

About what?

2 years in a row the season end on a sour note. 3 years ago I said within 3 years I think Hattiesburg reaches the championship game, that interpretation was before 3 years. This is the third year. I know WJ  & Picayune has been the apex predator but losing to Vancleve and Pascagoula in the first is like someone smiling at you and stick a knife in the kidney at the same time. In what I believe to be Tony Vance last year before he moves on, I hope luck is on our side.

I was thinking when Boyles left Meridian that if Tony’s son wasn’t still in school he probably would’ve applied for the Meridian job

WJ fans said for most of the 90’s that as soon as Mike Taylor left they would be a threat. One year with a bunch of area coaches and media together I think at jcjc when Taylor was asked how he saw west doing he commented that west would struggle and didn’t have as much talent as others, Marcus boules who was still at taylorsville spoke up and said “yes you do but you don’t know how to use it”.  After Taylor retired and Scott Pierson comes in and goes 11-1 his first year (and really should have won that 1 loss) a bunch of people knew they would win state in 3-4 years.  Then Wayne county dropped from 5A to 4A.  Took us 17 seasons to get to state. In that time we had 4 undefeated regular seasons and 5 trips to south state. Twice considered top 3 team in the state.  19 years to win state.  So I for sure feel you on sour taste with the way some seasons end

To be totally honest, every fan I know of that’s not a Hattiesburg fan, and half the ones that are HHS fans that I work with, knew that the instant west jones knocked y’all out of the playoffs in 18 that Tony Vance could not win state at HHS.

Well @Vott and @Deonte3455I've been thinking about this today.  This year marks 100 years since Hattiesburg last won a state title in football.  I reckon it would be a pretty picture if y'all could get it done, but then I get to thinking about assets and liabilities and then I get brought back down to reality again.  I guess I'm just ready to see what this season holds.  If there is even a remote possibility that Hattiesburg can get it done this year, Vance will need to get out of his own way and not become that liability come playoff time.  I feel like that has kind of been his Achilles heel.  If he can treat the playoffs like they are the regular season and that he's not having to play Petal, then he's got a sporting chance if this is his last ride with Hattiesburg.  It won't be an easy road but if there's a year for Hattiesburg to get it done, this has got to be it.

Hmmm….I wonder if there’s any pertinent news information in regards to South Mississippi football.  I reckon it’s just crickets right now.  Maybe we ought to go on an archeological dig and see what kind of bones we can dig up and maybe we might find that infamous pot of gold left by the leprechaun in Mobile’s Creighton Community.  We just need to rent the backhoe and uproot that tree LOL!

They’re most likely referring to a former coach semi-unretiring and helping at local (rival) school

After all it is public information on the interwebs and you are correct in your assessment except for the rival part.  It's a good move and I think it'll benefit both parties involved.  It certainly can't hurt anything.

Two months later still don't know how to respond to this. I have nothing bad to say about Vance though.

If anything, this year will be a wait and see what happens year.

The point I was making with the first part of the post was that I understand your feeling frustrated for the last 3 seasons. Thinking you would compete for state then not doing so. Wj fans felt that way from 2002 till 2020. We were 110% convinced we would get one within 3-5 years after 02 season.  Obviously did not happen.

also after 2010 I lost all faith that our coach could win state. I assure you that I was not the only Wj fan thinking such.  This is drawing a parallel to a bunch of people I know, plus myself, who doesn’t think Vance can win state in Hattiesburg. My personal reasoning is Wj never has never had a team with as much talent as Hattiesburg had in 2018. And I have never seen a team that loaded not win it. That, plus playoff performances since, are the reason for this assumption.

but maybe he pulls it off eventually.

Yep. 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 all years I thought we had more talent than displayed. Also, the coast teams for some odd ball reason have our number.

So you think the 2018 team of HHS was still more talented than the WJ team of 2023?
