There’s just not enough football talent over there right now for whatever reason. And I don’t think the coach they hired is any good. They’ll have to shake some things up eventually

Probably because they have not been able to go out and recruit anyone. For a while they were getting kids out of Hattiesburg but now those kids rather go to OG, than they started hitting up the surrounding area's getting player's and still are but they are not enough to compete! No homegrown talent and transfer portal is not as strong as it used to be there!

Hattiesburg?  They were getting kids from Poplarville.  Apparently they've still got a stronghold in Poplarville because I went to one of their games this year and a kid sitting right in front of me had a Petal shirt on.  They may not be getting athletes from there anymore, but they are definitely getting students.

Ok, so what is the connection between Poplarville and Petal? It's like 50 miles apart so it's not like it's an easy commute. What's the deal with that?

I honestly have no idea and geographically it really makes no sense, but Petal did get busted several years ago for recruiting players from Poplarville.

That's crazy to me. I kind of remember that though but it is a weird dynamic. I'd understand if you said a Richton or another small school in that area.

A little bit of everything, hardest division in 7-A, along with being one of the smallest 7-A schools. Administration would rather see students with spectacular grades and in showchoir. Boyles could coach with the best of them, I would imagine a lack of commitment from administration to the football program kind of drove him to leaving. I don’t think the recruiting is as posted above. Oak Grove has a stronghold on the talent in the pine belt right now, it’s more parents moving out there rather than kids getting recruited.

Prime example: Anthony Alford

East Marion product until 9th grade if I’m not mistaken. Mother gets a nice job and a brand new house in Petal. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Also, Huderson, the twins from Richton, and Javon Patterson. I don’t think any of those had parents that just so happened to like the area 😂😂😂

Families move a lot in the pine belt area. It is what is it is. Most of OG’s talent is homegrown now and have been together since peewee days. It’s the fastest growing area there.

That’s so not true, Duncan came from Petal, Stewart came from Georgia, Keyes came from Taylorsville, Myers came from Hattiesburg, from my understanding that’s not homegrown,.

Can you read? I said now. Like this current team. And with the exception of a couple of guys it’s been that way for quite some time.
