I don’t see Hattiesburg scoring more than 14 against wests starting defense.  What will decide this game is if west offense plays like they did vs poplarville and Jackson prep shows up, or if wests offense vs terry shows up. If the P’ville/prep west offense shows up west can score 21-28 against Hattiesburg.  If the terry offense shows up then west may not score.  And it’s not like west didn’t move the ball vs terry, they were inside the terry 15 3 times first 4 drives and turned the ball over 2 times on downs and threw interception on the 2 the other.

The last couple weeks since the terry game west been practicing their passing game trying to work out some things. Unfortunately for Forrest Hill and PRC they were scheduled scrimmage partners.

Ah, the battle to see who plays Picayune in the second round.

Here’s the way I see it. I’m probably going to say some things that some are going to not really like but I think it’s true.

Tony Vance at home will find a way to score some points. Bye hook or crook. That’s just the way it is. If you can match it a few times there are holes in their game. Hattiesburg can’t execute effectively but about three or four series per game. It’s been that way for years. After that they start making a lot of mistakes. If West can get them to that point their defense stands a good chance of putting points on the board their self.

West Jones defense is gold plated stellar. I haven’t looked that closely but I think West Jones hasn’t trailed this season at all and therein lies the big question. I think they will trail early in this game. Can their still a little green QB march them down and actually put it on the defenses back ? After I might add getting hit late a couple of times just to check his chin. That’s Vance. The run will be taken away too to put it on his shoulders. To finish. I don’t think he can. He’s still too young.  West will miss Piersons offensive game planning tremendously. No offense to Corey but I don’t think he can pull it off. It will be a rowdy environment and not only players melt in that but coaches too.

I think Hattiesburg wins and makes it two in a row.

When the new regions and the schedules came out, this was the game everyone circled in 3-6A to decide the title, and here it is.

This is the best defense Hattiesburg has faced, but at the same time, the Hattiesburg defense is probably the best West Jones has faced.

Which offense can move the ball enough to balance time of possession, win the field position, and not turn over the ball?

Special teams may be a big factor too. WJ kicker is very good, most kickoffs are in the end zone, and has range up to 50 on field golds.

Punting has been fine, nothing special but solid. Not sure what Hattiesburg has there.

If West Jones can stop the run and force Hattiesburg into predictable passing downs, advantage West Jones, but the same can be said

if Hattiesburg forces WJ and the 9th grade QB into a lot of 3rd and longs too.

With these 2 defenses, one pick six, one scoop and score, or one big special teams return, could decide this game.

It would be foolish for HHS fans to think that just because they beat Terry 39-0 and WJ only beat them 2-0 that HHS should win easily. That being said, WJ shutting out Terry was not a surprise even though Terry had their chances. After seeing both games, it amazes me that WJ could not score on the Terry defense

Is this game Thursday or Friday? My take for what it’s worth WJ has the best defense we’ve played in a couple of years. They are big, fast and physical. Offensively they have struggled some at times and started slowly. The big RB is as physical as they come. The young QB has some good receivers it a matter of him getting it to them. The game is in Hattiesburg and a Vance coached team is hard to beat at home

I agree with your take. But I will say for WJ to decisively win this ball game they will have to sling the rock and sling it effectively.

you may be right. WJ has 2 good running backs, and one of them is 6"2 and 225. He was the starter last year that got hurt in Game 1

and missed the season. The other is the kid that took his place last year. I think it boils down to can the WJ line open holes for them,

keep ahead of the chains, keep them out of 3rd and long, and win the field position battle. If they can do that and force Hattiesburg

offense to drive 70 to 80 yards, I like our chances.

I thought Merlin was spot on, not sure what the LOL was. We know this is the best team we have played to this point.

Of course you wouldn’t find the humor in it. Because I’m reading a whole bunch of if’s that don’t really matter . Not saying Hattiesburg is some juggernaut but they’re significantly better than those other teams and we just saw what they’re capable of offensively against a common opponent.
