I cant remember a game vs maine. I remember the 1-10 yr when they beat LA Tech and lost 10 straight

1988

Tech & 10.

Maine was 2004. Ironically that same  State team beat Florida & Kentucky. Also lost to UAB and Vandy as well. In fairness, that was Croom’s first year and he had purged the team about 20 talented but extremely undisciplined players off the team. People can debate his approach but at the time, it was needed. I love Coach Sherrill but he had completely lost the team in 2002-03.

Croom had MULTIPLE doozies but Maine was definitely the worst. Followed closely by losing to Tulane at home after their roster was decimated by Katrina. I was at both of those games sadly. They had to score a bunch of points late against Tulane just to keep it close.

While we are discussing Arnett’s future at State, I would like to mention that Michigan has pulled Harbaugh’s new contract offer.  Perfect timing for State.  Lol.   Of course I’m just joking.

We haven’t discussed the sign stealing investigation at Michigan.  What do y’all think about that?

It is a rule. They were caught breaking the rule regardless if everyone else is doing it (which they are. LOL). So they should be punished under that rule. Personally, I do not see it as a big deal because any program with a nice budget is doing it, but you cannot get caught. Sucks for Michigan and Harbaugh. Curious to see how NCAA dishes out punishment.

I agree.  I do think Michigan will receive less of a punishment than if it was a middle of the pack P5 team.

I think Kentucky is better than State but they’ve really struggled in Starkville over the years. I can be talked into State winning but it will require a total showing of ineptness by UK, similar to what Arkansas did last week.

I am glad you are confident. LOL. The way this team has played, I see it finishing 1-3 and 5-7 for the season which in my opinion should signal a change at Head Coach. Defense is not ranked in the top 50 and Offense is like 90th I believe. I felt Arnett's hire was an "interim" deal even from the start. If he did well, great. If not, then State can move on.

When was the last time the favorite actually won the Egg Bowl? This has State beating USM for their 5th win and then winning the Egg Bowl to get bowl eligible written all over it.

2020 I believe, Kiffin and Leach’s first year when State traveled to Oxford with like 45-50 dudes. It was a close one. State lost by 7 and had the Austin Williams goal line fumble and long return that was a 14 point swing.

I am telling you now that it would be a colossal choke job by Lane Kiffin if he lost to this State team. Like worse than Mullen losing in 2017 in the Fitzgerald broken ankle game. I would be less surprised if Ole Miss won 59-0 than if State won the game by 1 point.

The Egg Bowl being competitive is totally dependent on how locked in OM and Kiffin are. If they’re focused, it will get ugly. If they’re sloppy, it can be like some of OM’s other wins where it’s close for 3 quarters and then they pull away late. But I just don’t see a path to State winning right now.

I think a lot from OM’s side will come down to these next two weeks. If they lose the next 2 against A&M and Georgia do they mail it in like it looked like they did last year? I’m still waiting on OM to play that complete game on both sides of the ball. They’re going to need to these next two weeks.

I just know when it comes to the Egg Bowl lately you just can’t guarantee a win from one or the other regardless of how the season is going for them.

It's going to be a dang shame if State loses to Kentucky wearing the interlock.  Regardless if State gets the ball to start the game or if they get it to start the second half, they need to play with some inspired emotion.  The way State was playing on Saturday was literally putting me to sleep.
