CFB Week 6 Thread

Ole Miss wins a game that honestly was about what I expected going in. They have a very direct path to a 9 or 10 win year. They’ll be favored in every game outside of Georgia the rest of the way.

Arkansas will be 2-5 after they play Bama next week. Pittman versus Arnett in two weeks might as well be the hot seat bowl.

I have been a pretty vocal critic of Kiffin at times, but even if his galaxy brain moments cost OM a game or two occasionally, there is something to be said for the stability he’s brought.

Outside of Bama, the West has has been volatile the last few years with almost everyone having a wide range of results. OM is well on its way to its third straight 8+ win season with a real chance to win 10 again. And they probably would’ve won 7 or 8 in his first year under a normal schedule.

An even bigger deal is the buy in he’s been able to get from his fans. It’s something his counterparts in Starkville haven’t been close to having since Dan Mullen left, even under Leach unfortunately. The buy in with Leach didn’t come until after he had coached his final game, sadly.

USM losing is tough to see. Hall is a good guy and coach but this year is just about gone for the Eagles.

AZ has an early lead over USC . It may not last but I did pick them to win in an upset.

Coaching stability huge for State and Ole Miss. With Kiffin now in his fourth season at Ole Miss, it is paying off for him and the school.
Same thing at KY with Stoops. I know they got crushed tonight but their program is in solid shape these days with him at the helm.

Georgia Tech beat Miami and Arizona leading USC.

Both of these help the SOS for OM/MSU.

I don’t know if you saw the ending of Miami/GT but that was maybe the single worst coaching decision I have ever seen with what Cristobal did.

Miami up 3 with 30 seconds left, GT is out of timeouts. Take a knee and the game is over. Miami instead ran it up the middle and fumbled. GT then threw a long pass for the winning TD with 2 seconds left.

Cristobal looks like the dumbest coach in America tonight.

Oh,, I saw it and totally agree... just a dumb decision by Miami.

Looking at where USM is now and what’s left on their schedule… boy, that’s tough. 1-5 and only two home games remaining, and one of them is Troy who is one of the best teams in the Sun Belt.

Bowl eligibility seems like a real long shot for USM. Not sure what that means for Will Hall. I felt like they were moving in the right direction until this year.

Yesterday didn't change my mind at all on what Satch and I mentioned last week... I believe the East and West champions will have, at least, 1 SEC loss.

That would be more fun… But don’t be surprised when it’s 12-0 Georgia vs. 11-1 Alabama.

Not confirmed but the rumor going around is Rogers could miss a few weeks with this shoulder injury. Trending toward it being the Mike Wright show for a little while, which is what some have clamored for. It would definitely look different, but I’m not sure it matters if State’s defense continues to be a disaster.

At least with Mike Wright back there you can have the opportunity to elude the sacks, but the offense can only do so much.  I wish I had a solution for State's defense, but it's just been plain awful.

There is a reason so few teams are running the 3-3-5. I have never been a big fan of it. Too much boom or bust with it.

You are right there. I am hoping Arnett can keep this recruiting class together. There are some solid athletes in it.

Coming from a Tulane fan, let's hope he can do it.  If he manages to go winless in the SEC, I don't really know if he will be retained or if it'll be a complete coaching staff overhaul.

I was at the Kevin Fant '03 Jackie Sherril/Tulane fiasco.  That was a good win for y'all, but man it still stings LOL!

LOL! I was there myself and was completely torn on how to feel.  I grew up a big time Mississippi State fan as my father attended Sturgis High before joining Air Force. I only became a Tulane fan after being able to play some ball there after high school.

I honestly feel like the solution to all of State's problems is that we have failed to bust out the Interlocking MSU unis.  Why do we have to wait until the Kentucky game to do that and why don't we have the white away jerseys to go with the maroon ones?  If the Kentucky game is the only game we win and play wearing the Interlocking MSU uniform, why will we have wasted an entire season wearing the ineffective script State?

I'm not native to Louisiana, so I reckon I don't have a connection to Tulane.  I'm sure it felt good to have the type of season that Tulane had last year and finish ahead of LSU in the final standings.

Arnett never had a great defense in his time as State’s DC but they were pretty consistently solid. Matt Brock doesn’t appear to be as good of a DC as Arnett was, though.

I agree with talent being the biggest issue with this defense, which is shocking given all the defensive talent State has put in the NFL in the last dozen or so years. This team just doesn’t have that. And it’s a product of not recruiting or portalling defense very well in recent years. I mean you’re still relying on sixth year seniors that committed to Dan Mullen or Joe Moorhead. The Leach/Arnett era defensive additions simply have not produced to this point.

My take has been it's not just coaching. It seems a lot of plays they are in pretty good position and just don't have the speed to finish the play. Also, and I don't know how much of this is coaching and how much instinct, but the DB's are sometimes in good position, but don't play the ball in the air well.

Does strength and conditioning play into the speed some?

It could, but State’s had the same S&C coach since Leach was hired and this is the first year it’s been an issue.
