CFB Week 6 Thread

Pretty significant week in the SEC:

Arkansas-Ole Miss: I absolutely adore how ridiculous this game seems to be every year. I think Ole Miss wins but it’s close. Major trap game for OM coming off a big win last week.

State-Western Michigan: Does anyone even care? I expect a tiny crowd for an 11 am game in Starkville. State by 10 or 14 I guess. There’s just nothing exciting about this program right now.

LSU-Missouri: boy do I not have a clue what either of these teams are. I don’t trust Mizzou in a game like this yet so I guess I’ll take LSU. But huge home game in CoMo, could get weird.

Kentucky-Georgia: UGA isn’t what they’ve been, but much like Mizzou, I don’t trust Kentucky in this spot either. Dogs win at home.

Bama-A&M: If Weigman were healthy I might take A&M. Don’t love Max Johnson as a big game QB. I am taking Bama here.

Red River: will be an SEC game next year, but huge Big 12 game still for now. I am actually leaning toward an Oklahoma upset here. Texas is still very good but OU has been flying under the radar and this game tends to get strange.

I'll go with:

Ole Miss (probably a homer pick- this game is almost always weird lately)

State. IF this game is somewhat close, Arnett will feel even more heat... which I find a tad silly with it being his first year and EVERYONE knew a move from the air raid would take time with personnel.

Rooting for Mizzou- picking LSU.

Rooting for Kentucky- picking Georgia.

Rooting for A&M- picking Bama.

I really don't care who wins the Red River- picking Texas.

Southern Miss is actually favored this weekend last I checked, I hope they pick up the win... it's badly needed.

In normal circumstances I’d be right there with you. But nothing about Arnett’s hiring was normal, and not just the fact that it followed Leach’s passing. His buyout is shockingly low and Selmon didn’t hire him.

He will be back next year if he merely gets to 6-6, but miss a bowl game and get handled by Ole Miss and there will be a lot of people ready to move on already.

I’ll take OM at home. Love watching this matchup each year.  If it was in Arkansas I’d pick them.

State wins big.  They should.

LSU over Missouri.  Like 83, I’m not sold on Missouri or UK.

Georgia over UK.  I think it will be a close game though.

I’m going with A&M over Bama.  The minute I give them some credit thought, they’ll blow it.

Oklahoma over Texas.  Should be a great game.

I like Wash State to keep winning, ND over Louisville, and Arizona to score a ton against USC, but USC wins.

Ole Miss wins. Arkansas has been a thorn in recent years but they are just not very good this year. Now they did take LSU to the final play but even with a letdown I think Ole Miss will win this one. Ole Miss 29, Arkansas 24.

State 52, Western Michigan 3.

Missouri wins and all the sudden LSU becomes LSWho with three losses. Missouri 36, LSU 27.

Georgia is about due for a loss. This is a game they should win but for some reason I think they have a WTF game and lose it more so than KY winning it. KY 21, UGA 19.

A&M wins an ugly game over Bama 17-16. Can’t decide if Bama misses an extra point or if they score 3 FG’s and a TD.

OK bursts TX’s bubble in the State Fair of TX game. OK 48, TX 40.

Washington State 31, University of California at Los Angeles 23

ND 28, Louie-Ville 18

AZ pulls off the upset

AZ 34, University of Southern California 33.

Certainly disappointing today. No cohesion at all.
No way that WM should be within 10 points in the fourth quarter. Offensive struggles are understandable but our defense has been atrocious this year.

But again this is our 4th head coach in less than 6 years. Stability is a must and the revolving door of HC’s (for generally different reasons but nonetheless it has happened) has hurt the program and this year the chickens have come home to roost. As I have noted, we are in a difficult situation.  If you fire Arnett, then it is 5 Head Coaches in 6 years. Then you are probably looking at 5 more years before the program recovers. In our best interest, we need to ride with what we have.

Plus we still have six games left this year.

Nice interception to seal it, but I don't really like antics when you've struggled to beat a team you should have dominated.

Bigger picture, I think it's going to be hard for MSU to be competitive in today's environment of NIL and transfer portal. They won't be about to compete for top recruits and the rare hidden gem they find will be bid away in the portal.

I agree on the first part.   The second part, I believe, depends on coaching.

The NIL, transfer portal argument has been argued both ways.   Smaller P5 schools will struggle or it makes more parity.  It has to be one or the other, and I just don’t think it’s been long enough to get an actual determination.

After the bye week, State has 3 of the next 4 on the road. Just not seeing it with this team. And by “it” I mean “anything to feel confident or positive about whatsoever”. Western Michigan was going up and down the field with their 3rd string QB. Every QB left on State’s schedule is licking their chops because every single one of them may set new career highs.

It probably won’t happen because LSU likely isn’t going to win enough, but Daniels should absolutely be in the Heisman conversation.

A&M might have won with a healthy Weigman. Max Johnson is just super average. A&M looks like a stereotypical 4 or 5 loss team. Bama is flawed but the West is still theirs to lose.

Georgia handling Kentucky is not a huge surprise.

State and Arkansas play in two weeks and somehow a winner must be declared.

I know it is in his DNA. But PUNT THE BALL.

I mean Kiffin just said here. I am going to give you a score. Fortunately, the D held them to three. But that three points may make a difference at the end of the game.

They could have had Arky backed up.

It is a game now.

After digesting the WM-State game, I am of opinion that the WM coach is an idiot. His third string QB looked far better than the first two QB’s. Had he started we might have lost this game.

Mean while back in Oxford, Ole Miss appears to have regained control of the game.
