Meridian largest 6A at 958.

If some are reporting low numbers then some schools have to be reporting higher numbers unless folks are moving out of state.

I know in OS there are 170 students that moved either out of state, private school, or to another district in the state. They track all of it.

Not sure what the statistics are but home school students have exploded in MS. Enrollment numbers down across the state.

I heard from a friend that Newton County turned in 328 I believe, not sure where they were last time, but that number seems really low for them.

OS had about 40 go to homeschool. Lost close to 200 total from last year district wide.

Looks like they would have been at 455 off last years numbers. That alone goes to show how much movement there is likely to be.

Home School is exploding and in some areas private schools are seeing increases.

Public school enrollment continues to decline which is sad in many ways. 
Unfortunately the environment in a number of schools is causing families to pull their children out and teachers to leave for either retirement or to teach in a private school setting. The money is less but the corresponding stress level is way lower.

I think they both stay 4A because ripley, byhalia and rosa fort have lower numbers and will possibly drop to 3A

They only report 9th-11th grades now.

353 October 2025 8th-10th grades. I will give that some kids moved to maybe Union or Newton Academy. Top drop 25 some 11th graders may have been reclassified as seniors or failed the 8th grade and won't be counted. I think reclassifieing juniors in the summer pushed Raleigh to 2A a few years ago. Then again college professors at East Central may have moved on to another college or university taking their kids with them.

Your correct.  Basically from Jackson to Memphis along and West of I-55 people are moving out,dropping out or for whatever reason their numbers are on a continuous free fall.

Man that's eye opening. Where does those kids up towards Latimer go to school at, ?  I've ben looking at moving just north of there and it looks to be over flowing.

 

I was in OS  the other day and thought they are going to have to expand the school system because people were everywhere ,

Church schools are growing as well. If the trend continues there may be 1 high school per county except in larger metro areas.

I wonder does our illustrious Sept of Education have detailed plan on how to combat this?  He has been quoted many times saying how he believes public Ed is superior to private school Ed or home schooling. Maybe his salary should decrease on a % basis of how many students depart public schools.

OS has bullying problems as well.  I can speak to this on a personal level.

Latimer go to St Martin or Vancleave if far enough east if I remember right

It is honestly the worst part of living in OS in my opinion. I have not personally had to deal with it, but I have plenty of friends and know others that have. There is a LOT of sweeping under the rug by the schools in the district to keep things under wraps to protect the crystal clear image the district portrays. The city itself is honestly the same way.
