rebmus Posted September 16, 2023 Share Posted September 16, 2023 Zero games between ranked teams this week. The closest we have to 2 ranked teams playing (unless I've missed something) is LSU/MSU. LSU is ranked and MSU is in the "others receiving votes". This game deserves a 2:30 or 6:00 kickoff IMO instead of the dreaded 11am kickoff. Satch, the lawsuit looked pretty silly to me from what I read online (which I'm sure didn't tell much of the whole story). $40 million dollars between Ole Miss/Lane Kiffin with this player basically not making the starting lineup and being asked to move to OL from DL? He claims he was kicked off the team, but is still listed on the roster... supposedly still is on scholarship? A lot of "pain and suffering" in the lawsuit according to articles. Shoot, I'd like $40 million from Houston Nutt for the pain and suffering from the Jacksonville State loss. Plenty of MSU fans would like $40 million from Croom for the Maine loss. There’s still a lot of games left, but it appears Arnett is in over his head. We all knew it was a panic hire, and this was a possibility. That 4th and 7 TD was really bad. I think LSU might be the best team in the West and State might be the worst team in the West. State as is, I should say, is the worst team in the West. I have been adamantly against a QB change but today was a really compelling argument that Mike Wright should be the starter. I mean if you’re not gonna pass effectively anyway you might as well increase your number of running threats. I realize it’s early in the year and I tend to think State improves as the year goes on. And QB is hardly the only issue here, nobody had a good day today. But you’ve gotta try something different or you risk not even winning 6 this season. I’m not ready to declare the Arnett era a failure yet, but I do wonder if we State fans underestimated the combination of first time HC + first time DC + G5 OC with limited experience as a coordinator. This does not look like a coaching staff that’s got it figured out at all, on either side of the ball. South Carolina next week feels like kind of a must win but it’s hard to have a ton of confidence in that on the road. Either it’s a HR or it could be a complete bust. State has OL issues, Rogers lacks mobility, and he isn’t as accurate in this system. On the defensive side, as 83 said, the secondary is a big concern. Rattler could throw for 500 yards if the offense goes 3 and out all day. LSU is a really good team though. They have had one bad half. They’ve got all the pieces on both sides of the ball. Well most of them, RB and secondary are just so-so. But they have a very good QB, an elite WR in Nabors, and a nasty front seven. They’ll have to win in Tuscaloosa to win the West, and we’ll see how good Ole Miss ends up being. But they proved today that at their best, they’re dang good. Gotta appreciate the irony of Nabors being a long time State commit that got an LSU offer 15 minutes before his signing day ceremony, and he has absolutely torched State the last two years. It was bound to happen eventually when you have a revolving door of coordinators because of your success. Eventually you will have some that aren’t a good fit or don’t live up to expectations. It happened to Bobby Bowden at FSU in their dominant run. Couple that with the change the portal and NIL has created in the college game. OM will beat Bama next week. Bulldogs4 Posted September 17, 2023 Share Posted September 17, 2023 LSU played as a perfect game as you will ever see today. They excelled in every phase of the game. They would have beaten anyone in the country today. Daniels reminds of Dak in 2015 except he has a better OL and more weapons. This is what I was worried about with State. We have no identity on offense. You don’t change offensive philosophies on a dime. In our case, it is even harder because we are a veteran team. Some these players are in their 4th, 5th or even 6th year. This is their 2nd or 3rd HC and now third offensive system in the last 4 years. I do not know what the answer is but we look totally out of sync offensively so far this year. Rogers’ passing today was atrocious. Some of that was LSU’s pressure but a number of times he short hopped or overthrew passes. If we had played our best game, we still lose. But closer. At 0:00 a L is a L regardless. I was thinking if we played LSU ten times. Three games would be like today…blowouts Two games would be LSU comfortably winning Two games would be LSU winning close Two games would be State winning close One game would be State winning comfortably I think our HC and staff are fine but we are going to get out coached this year more often than we are not. How that shakes out in wins and losses remains to be seen. I said 6 wins and if everything fell right possibly 8 wins. 6 wins is achievable but beyond that is a mystery as of now. Like I said last week, voters will move Ole Miss up in the polls after looking at the final score.
