maroontide06
Solid win for State tonight. Chance was a triple away from the cycle and Tomas with 13 K’s. RPI is up to #6 and Bauer did fantastic in relief.
Dawg83
Honestly I thought it was one of the best games State has played all year. State hit a really good pitching staff pretty dang hard, Valincius had his best start in a while, and Bauer was as good as he possibly could’ve been out of the pen. Would be big series win if State can find one more this weekend. Auburn has plenty of arms still ready, but State should be pretty well rested in the pen too. Bulldogs4
Excellent win for State. Really played well and took great advantage of our opportunities especially in the first inning. That dang Chance with back to back grand slams in conference play. Let’s Go Diamond Dawgs!!
DrownInEtown
Probably the most complete game we’ve put together this year. Would be hard to sweep a top 10 team loaded with good arms. Hopefully the dude will be bumping tonight since it’s Friday. Glad to see one of our gap hitters like Bryce Chance turning into a HR threat. Reminds me of those other short compact like guys like Jose Ramirez and Mookie Betts molding into power hitters from just being contact guys
Dawg83
Rumor mill buzzing that McPherson may be starting Game 3. Curious to see if and how that plays out. But tonight is a big game too. Need Stone to have a competitive start.

I just think he's more a contact hitter like Mangum, but he was able to get some pitches where he could put a good swing on them and get them out of the park. He definitely has the ability to go yard, but I think he feels getting base hits and getting on base is probably a little more productive for him. He certainly doesn't need to abandon that approach at all, but having that power option for him definitely helps.

I certainly wouldn't expect TBA to do what Tomas did last night at all.
Dawg83
OM with a big opening win over A&M. USM came back to beat James Madison. State trailing Auburn in the 6th but still close for now, we will see how this one finishes.
Bulldogs4
Davis pitches well but it seems he finds a way to throw one beach ball that turns out to be costly. State with three outs left to try to tie or win it.
Dawg83
Rubber match at The Dude tomorrow, and O’Connor just confirmed that McPherson is getting the start, albeit on a pitch count. Regardless of how tomorrow goes, great to hear that he’s starting to work his way back. When he’s healthy and on his game, he’s every bit as good as Valincius. Maybe he can gradually ramp up to full go by the time Regional play gets here. Edited May 9 by Dawg83
Bulldogs4
Reese had the big hit but him getting out on the play killed our momentum and seem to give life back to Auburn. Nonetheless it was a well played game by both teams. Our pitching should be in good shape tomorrow especially if McPherson can give us 2-3-4 innings (depending on the pitch count and how he performs). Don’t know Auburn and what they have left. I suspect it will be a close game. Lets Go Diamond Dawgs!

I suspect it will be a close game. Lets Go Diamond Dawgs! Auburn has used two of their big relievers in extended innings both of the first two games. Sanders specifically that threw last night has been their top bullpen guy. But they’ve got some other options. And their Sunday starter is a good one. I presume everyone except for Miller and Davis can go for State. Through two games I have felt like State is the better team between these two, but Auburn does the little things well and are very good in their own right. This is an important game for both sides, probably moreso for State though. Really need another signature series win besides just Ole Miss. Dawg83
State gets run ruled. Probably kills any Top 8 seed hopes barring a sweep of A&M. And not totally safe from a hosting perspective, still likely need another win or two between next weekend and Hoover.
Bulldogs4
I said before the season I did not think we were a top five/ten team. Much improved over last year and a top twenty/fifteen perhaps team, for sure. We are capable of beating any team in the country in a given game but we are not consistent enough to win a series against the top tier teams. All that to say I am still excited about this team and look forward to playing at A&M and seeing how we fare against them. Realistically one win is probably what we will get but two would sure be nice. After that we will see how it goes.
Dawg83
It’s a weird State team because they are still very much in the hosting mix, not totally dead from a Top 8 standpoint, but when they play these upper teams in the league they have felt like they don’t stack up super well. One of those things where you just gotta hope McPherson can get healthier in time for the Regional and hope the team gets hot at the right time. Oak’s postseason track record says a deep run is still very much on the table. But this team has now lost more SEC series than it’s won, so if you told me they didn’t make it out of a Regional I wouldn’t really be surprised either. rebmus
State is almost a lock to host at this point... MAYBE be a high 2 seed and missing out IF they get swept next weekend but I still think they'd host. Ole Miss staying in the hosting discussion helps MSU a lot, I don't see any scenario where Ole Miss hosts while MSU doesn't when MSU is 4-0 head to head this season and has (worst case scenario) basically the same record as Ole Miss. Being a top 8 is still on the table... definitely have to win the next series if not sweep to get it. Ole Miss is back in the hosting discussion... most likely needs to win the series next weekend to get a host bid... I don't think 1 more win will get it. Of course, a deep SECT run by either team will help the chances if the above doesn't pan it... it's much nicer to already be basically locked in before the SECT. IF the season ended today, I'd bet on MSU and USM hosting with Ole Miss as a 2 seed at USM. I'm not sure the NCAA will award all 3 a host bid unless it's just too obvious all 3 earned it. IF next weekend ends with MSU winning 1, Ole Miss winning 2, and USM losing 2... it's MSU/Ole Miss hosting while USM falls to a 2 seed at Oxford or Starkville... likely Oxford. I hope all 3 sweep next weekend and all 3 host for the first time in the same year... great exposure for the state.

Bulldogs4
13 hours ago, Vott said: So miss better sweep. They are playing the worse team in the conference USM seems to be taking care of business here late in the season. You cannot control the schedule with respect to how your opponents perform. Ole Miss-Bama is a huge series as well. I like Ole Miss to win two of three. Bama is good but I think their ranking/RPI is higher than the team is actually on the field. They have lost 17 games so they are not unbeatable at all. And then it goes without saying that State@A&M is another big series. Most likely will be a 2-1 series and represents a great opportunity for State to steal one on the road where we have surprisingly played better in the conference this season. State was 7-8 at home in the conference which is befuddling at best. Who says the regular season does not count… Georgia-Auburn should be really good as well! Dawg83
USM is hosting with a sweep this weekend, no doubt about it. And they may have a chance for a Top 8 seed if they can do that and then go and win the conference tourney, IMO. I do think USM gets the sweep, and Coastal drops at least one game, so USM would be either an outright or co-champ of the Sun Belt. Ole Miss-Bama is a true toss up in my eyes, I think those are two very similar teams. I guess i give the slight edge to Bama at home, but a OM series win would be the farthest thing from a surprise. The starting pitching all weekend should be really impressive. Going to come down to who makes the fewest mistakes. I’ve been pretty pessimistic with my State series predictions in recent weeks, I think I even picked them to lose the LSU series lol. But I actually have had my eyes on this series for a little while as one I liked State’s chances in. A&M’s pitching is not on the level of the teams State has struggled to beat, and they are also coming in a little banged up in their position player group. I think State has a chance to get the offense going in a big way, and I think they have the better pitching of the two teams. State wins 2 and locks up a host, with a Top 8 seed TBD in Hoover. David44
The top 3 in the SEC appear to be nearly locks for a double bye at Hoover. Don't see Texas getting swept by Missouri at home. A&M though must win at least 1 vs Miss State. That 4th spot though is up for grabs. The key series are OM vs Bama and Georgia vs Auburn. If OM and Georgia take 2 of 3, it opens it up for State, Florida, and Arkansas. You could have 5 teams with a 17-13 record and then it goes to tie breakers. Head to Head is the 1st one, but how do you use it, when 5 teams are involved. Gonna be interesting for sure.
Dawg83
Apparently A&M will be without its best starting pitcher this weekend. Big opportunity for State if they can get some decent pitching of their own.

This time on a Wednesday morning at 9:30 am. That’s a very very possible 8 vs 9 game in Hoover.

You shut your Kiffin mouth! ** It would be something if Ole Miss and MSU met for a 5th game in Hoover and MSU continues the season sweep to 5-0. I'm not sure that's ever happened before.
