2026 Baseball Season

Rubber games in Austin and Fayetteville tomorrow. I like OM’s chances, less confident in State but you’ve given yourself a chance. And pressure is on the home team in both series.

USM swept a doubleheader at home today. Need to finish off the sweep tomorrow to stay on a hosting track.

Which Charlie Foster shows up today?

The Good version will give us an excellent chance to win.

The bad version means we will have to score and score and score some more and that still may not be good enough.

Plus we have got to play better defense.
We will see.

I like OM & USM to win today.

charlie is mentally weak and hasn't adjusted to pitching to guys 3 or 4 years older than him.   I figure he is toast for 27 and will be pitching elsewhere.  he looked afraid and simply aimed and nibbled.

I think Texas is simply a better team than State, if I’m being honest. At least they certainly are in State’s “no McPherson” current status. But I think the week overall is a net positive for State. Maybe you could’ve taken a big leap up with a series win, but you still took steps forward. Up in the Top 10 of the RPI now, would no question be a host if it was seeded today and they are still in contention for a Top 8 seed. Will need a strong finish to get it though, and obviously Auburn and A&M are a tough close.

Heartbreaking loss for Ole Miss, took a lead into the bottom of the ninth only to give up a walk off two run homer. Their hosting status is more iffy right now. They probably need at least 3 or 4 more SEC wins to have a chance, and they also have a tough finish with A&M and Bama. Will be an interesting couple of weeks for both teams.

USM got the sweep they had to have. Now need to keep doing it the next two weeks against two more bad teams.

If the season ended today, I think there would without question be postseason baseball in Starkville and Hattiesburg, with Oxford being a 50/50 proposition at best. But things can still change for all three in good or bad directions, no doubt about it.

I think 3 wins in the last 6 get State a host. I think OM needs at least 4 to have a shot. I don't think there's any way NCAA gives all three a host.

So Miss probably will not host. Their RPI is about to take a major hit vs James Madison and GA Southern to close out conference play. Going 6-0 wont help them. But a loss or two would really be bad. I think to host they have to sweep JMU and GA Southern. They could possibly host if they do like last yr and finish runner up to coastal or perhaps win the tournament.

Yeah I think USM needs to sweep these last 6 games also. If they pitch like they did this past weekend,

it is certainly possible. 35k in the Saturday doubleheader, which is absurd. ULM was a top 4 offense in SB too.

Right now they are a combined 16-8 in Q1 and Q2 games. A lot of those were early in the year, but there won't

be 12 other teams in the country that will meet or exceed those Q1/Q2 numbers.

Well it gets overlooked but your OOC games count. State was 23-2 this year in OOC games.

Only two losses were one run games (UCLA-neutral) and (USM-road). Both games were very winnable as well.

Very impressive and as Coach mentioned earlier, teams around the country were canceling games tonight because of RPI. Our players wanted to play and did against a good Nichols team.
Yes the SEC games are the most important but you better take care of these early season and midweek games too. They all count in the record at the end of the regular season.

And they definitely affect the potential to host a Regional and/or a SR.
So job well done by the Diamond Dawgs!

State also moved up in the RPI after last night's win, so it didn't hurt them at all.

You don’t have to go back very far to find a State team that didn’t host because of a poor record in nonconference games, so yes definitely a big deal to take care of business against the teams you’re supposed to beat. I don’t remember many close calls either honestly, the Tulane game in Biloxi and the UAB game in Starkville are about it.

State-Auburn starts on Thursday which puts both in a weird position. No idea what State does rotation-wise. I suspect Auburn probably holds their top two starters for Friday and Saturday. So that Thursday game feels really important. I’m pretty high on Auburn and don’t love the fact that State’s pitching staff feels like it’s starting to break down a bit. I think the Tigers take the series on the road,

Ole Miss badly needs a series win against A&M. I have OM winning it at home, call me a skeptic on A&M because I have State winning the series in Aggieland next week as well. Not sold on their pitching.

USM has been heating back up again, I will take them to sweep. They tend to be a team that plays really good baseball in May heading into the postseason.

Do you let tomorrow be a TBA kind of day so that you don't take Tomas and Stone out of their rotation or do you bump them up a day?

Rotations just announced. Valincius starting for State tomorrow, Auburn starting one of their two best arms too.

So much for my thinking that tomorrow would be a wing it kind of game for both.

I think you throw your best arms one day early.

Honestly, I don’t see that being a problem. Each is getting 5 full days of rest. Many years ago MLB starters were pitched every fourth day.
These guys are 19-20-21 years old. Fatigue should not be a problem.
I am curious to see if McPherson pitches a little this weekend. It would seem possible that he might throw an inning or two if the circumstances dictate it.
83, I am not quite as high on Auburn as you are.

Yes they are an excellent team but they do have 14 losses and have the same conference record as State. I think it will be two of three series that could go either way. They are not unbeatable by any means. And I think our bullpen will bounce after a rough inning on Sunday.

Ole Miss needs to win two and I think USM sweeps.

Alabama took a crucial loss last night losing to Troy. They could be teetering on losing out on a host bid. They are @SCAR (who is no longer an automatic win) and then Ole Miss at home (which will be a tough series as each will be battling for a host spot).

We will see how the weekend shakes out.
In a way I am glad State is playing a THU-SAT series. A&M has a FRI-SUN series so that could work to our advantage next week.

This dang portal and NIL era, these dudes get unlimited eligibility I guess. TBA has been in college for at least a decade now***

We haven't seen ol' TBA in a while.  Hopefully he won't be too rusty and can give us some quality innings on Saturday.  At least TBA doesn't have to pitch two games in a row.  I'd feel for his arm if he had to do that.

Auburn @ MS should be a good one, probably the best SEC matchup this weekend.

Starting early and on it's own is even better. (for us anyway..). I'm higher on MS too.

Auburn's toughest road weekend venues have been Texas A&M and Alabama.

Starkville will top those. I will take MS to win the series.

Not sold on A&Ms pitching either. I think OM has a good chance, but have to play well.
