Dawg83 Posted yesterday at 05:37 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 05:37 PM State’s 2027 pitching staff, if health permits and guys continue to develop, may be the best in the country and the best in school history. Bauer has no business being in college baseball. He should be somewhere in pro ball right now. I don’t know how Oak and Parker swung that. What he did last night for three innings was unreal. If he’s maintaining command, with a 99-100 fastball and THAT slider, from the left side as well… good freaking luck. The pitch he threw to end the 8th made my jaw drop. DrownInEtown Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM Couldn’t imagine how electric that stadium was when Parker hit that grand slam. Got chills just from the social media posts
Dawg83
State sweeps LSU for the first time since 1985 when Palmeiro and Clark were still on campus and yours truly was eight years away from being born. lol. Say what you want about this team, but they win the games they are supposed to win. Zero Q3 or Q4 losses this year and the only possibility remaining is the Nicholls midweek game in a couple of weeks. I feel like they took a huge step toward hosting the last two weeks and probably would host if the season ended today. And I think if they can just play .500 baseball against a tough remaining schedule, you’ll see postseason baseball return to Starkville. OM drops the series Georgia. Not the end of the world, but it will require OM to finish relatively strong IMO. They too have a tough finish to the year at Arkansas, vs A&M, and at Bama. Governor’s Cup on Tuesday, I guess I’d say it’s more important for OM’s hosting chances given that they are 0-3 vs State and both teams are fighting for a spot, but it’s a big opportunity game for both teams on a neutral field. USM dropped the Sunday game but still took the series on the road and their RPI is back in the Top 10. Southern doesn’t play a team with an RPI inside the Top 100 for the rest of the regular season. Guys, just don’t lose several dumb games and you’re gonna host again. It’s that simple for USM, in my opinion.
Bulldogs4
I remember that sweep very well from 1985. We also won the SECT in BTR that year with three straight wins. In those days, we played home - home against OM, Bama, Auburn and LSU. So you played 24 conference games and the two top teams from the East & West played for the Championship. Over Spring Break that year we went to Hawaii and played for a week. Returned home late on a Thursday. Promptly went to Auburn and got Swept by Bo Jackson and Co. And we lost two of three against LSU in BTR early in the season as well. Later in the season we caught fire and that sweep propelled us from six games down in the standings to finishing one game behind LSU in the regular season. All that to say that surprises me that it has been 41 years since we swept LSU in a baseball series. And we still lead the overall series by 25 games. I think Brian Hadad said it well, this weekend did feel very much like a State vs LSU series, just with the roles reversed. I’m used to LSU staging the comebacks and breaking State’s heart multiple times in a weekend. The script definitely flipped this weekend. This LSU team reminds me A LOT of 2022 State and 2023 Ole Miss i.e. teams that fell off a cliff the year after winning a national title. They’ve got some impressive young hitters but man their pitching staff and defense are train wrecks. I understand they’ve had some injuries, but dang. I’ve never seen an LSU team struggle like this one does.
