Dawg83
Huge win for State. Crazy last 2-3 innings. Both teams pitched it very well I thought except for one catastrophic inning for State and two really bad ones for OM. Super encouraged by Charlie Foster’s start for State and then Pitzer on the backend was outstanding. Really State’s entire staff outside of Davis was excellent. I really like Rabe for OM and we all know what Elliott is. This game just kinda highlighted State’s ability to manufacture runs in key spots and also OM”s boom or bust nature on offense. Series far from over, though.
Bulldogs4
Great game tonight and a great start by Foster to give us a chance. Elliot was great until we finally got to him in the sixth inning. We said BB’s will kill you against Ole Miss and they almost did. I knew when Davis walked two batters they were going to hit a HR. It almost cost us as well. Good win for State and a tough loss for Ole Miss.
Dawg83
I think it’s time to move on from the Ben Davis closer experiment for the time being. He will have a role, but finishing out games has been a struggle more often than not. Pitzer possibly took that spot for himself last night. pancho
we nearly froze last night and it looks just as windy blowing in today too.
Bulldogs4
On TV it looked brutally cold and windy. Glad I was at home watching on TV…LOL. At least the sun will be out today but it is still going to be windy and cold. Tomorrow afternoon looks a bit better.
Bulldogs4
Basically a business like win for State today. Valincius did not have his best stuff but still managed 5 shut out innings. We kept Ole Miss in the ballpark with 0 HR’s. Huge difference in the game being 6-1 as opposed to 6-4/6-5/6-7 had they gone yard a few times Just a solid win. Did not think we would have a chance for a sweep but we will see how it goes tomorrow. Look for more crooked numbers for both teams in game 3. Go Diamond Dawgs! Dawg83
Valincius not allowing an earned run through 3 SEC starts is a crazy stat. This team is awesome and State hopefully has a lot to look forward to this year…. But next year is shaping up to be fun too with all the freshmen and sophomore arms on this team that should be back for 2027.
pancho
I guess Bianco will have Townsend on a pitch count today? State has plenty arms available, especially if Stone gives then 4plus innings.
Dawg83
State with the road sweep. Huge weekend. To not have McPherson and still sweep is massive. Major progress made by several guys on this pitching staff. I have to imagine this OM team is an extremely frustrating watch for OM fans. A lot of quality arms but an offense that is far too home run dependent. Absolutely terrible clutch hitting by OM this weekend. State made good pitches at times, sure. But they also walked 8 people today and OM turned it into a grand total of 1 run.
hasbeen67
Seeing some Facebook posts about Bianco having some pretty strong words about how the games were called and played. Is that real at all or just fake?
Bulldogs4
Umpiring can be very frustrating for all teams but especially when you are on the losing end of a game(s). I think Friday night deflated Ole Miss and it carried over to Saturday and Sunday. Momentum can be fickle and it seemed to me that State jumped on it Friday night in the ninth inning and just rode it on through the weekend. State’s pitching staff has made some strides but there is still lots of improvement in front of them as well. Most of the time, walking 8 batters will get you beat in a game. We were fortunate in that regard. Having a comfortable lead helped and the guys did a good job of getting out 4 bases loaded situations. On the other side of the coin, perhaps the Ole Miss batters were pressing a bit as well. Still a great weekend for State and sets up a great weekend series with Jawja THU-SAT. pancho
there is quite a bit of difference in the approach to hitting in the box between the 2 teams.

To be honest I think it’s a talent thing too. I think State’s lineup just has a lot more good SEC hitters in it than OM’s does this year. State has guys hitting in the 6 hole and the 9 hole at the moment that would be top of the order bats on a ton of teams.
pancho
States batters are very short , quick and compact. the ole miss guys kinda resemble slow pitch softball hitters with how they load and stop and then try to reload with that uppercut
Bulldogs4
I always call that the Dave Kingman approach. His average was about .210 with 50 HR’s and a ton of strikeouts. And about 90 RBI’s. When he cranked one out it was a bomb but in between lots of K’s. State had that kind of offense two-three years ago.
DrownInEtown
Can’t be walking folks this weekend. Georgias averaging 3 HRs a game
rebmus
State may well be a really really good team this year... then again, Ole Miss may be not so good. I lean towards State is indeed a top 8 team and set up to host a SR while Ole Miss is a 2 or 3 seed on the road come tourney time.

I believe Texas probably wins the SEC but State can probably contend for the league title. State going to Austin in early May might be the series of the year in the SEC. But gotta get there first. Big home series against Georgia this week. I don’t think I’m willing to predict State to get a third straight sweep, but I do like State’s chances to win two games at home. OM travels to Gainesville this weekend. Pretty much can’t afford to get swept again, and a series win would be huge. I lean UF takes the series but don’t be shocked if OM steals this one. Florida is a little volatile and I think OM’s pitching could present problems for them. Don’t really know what to make of USM’s performance lately. Not a disaster but definitely been a little shaky. They dropped a midweek game at home to SE LA tonight. They were in prime position to earn a Top 8 seed if they took care of business and, well, haven’t exactly taken care of business like they probably needed to. Suffices to say that they need to win the series at Old Dominion this weekend to stay on the right side of the hosting conversation. And to be honest, they need to be sweeping some of these bad Sun Belt teams that are on their schedule. Barely winning two games at home against App State was not a particularly strong result. Not when you consider that Coastal is now 4 games ahead of USM in the Sun Belt standings and the two teams don’t play each other. Bulldogs4
This week’s Georgia-State match up should be a great series. Definitely do not see a sweep but hopefully we can take two of three. I think Ole Miss wins the series at Florida. I think the State series was of those weekends where they started pressing. This week on the road I think they will play relaxed and win two. USM, I think got a bit overconfident after winning those big games early in the season. Now they are getting everybody’s best shot and they have not responded very well. The SBC is a decent baseball conference and even the lower level teams are capable of winning a game or two against the better teams. Especially when they are hyped up about playing a top twenty team. USM has played themselves out of top 8 seed and are on the verge of not even being a top 16 seed. David44
USM just not hitting lately. 1st 16 games this year, they averaged right at 7 runs per game. The last 13 games they have averaged 4.8. Scoring 1 run in a mid-week game against mid -week pitching is abysmal. Too much pressure on the 2 guys at the top that are still hitting (Urban and Morrison) and too much pressure on the pitching staff. Ole Dominion on the road this weekend, which may be a good thing to get away from Hattiesburg and all the bad noise. hasbeen67
State was fortunate not to have more damage in the 8 walks game. That can get ugly quick and you won't always overcome it.
pancho
The approach ole miss used at the plate was perfect for a pitcher to buckle down. State sure needs to avoid this situation against better hitting teams.

Also State pulled an Ole Miss and did most of their damage via home run, and not much else otherwise. Edited April 2 by Dawg83
Dawg83
Barring a big surprise late, State about to drop its first game at The Dude this year. Just didn’t pitch well and had several catching woes again. Too big of a hole to dig against an elite offense like UGA, even with State’s bats.
Dawg83
Big win for Ole Miss at Florida tonight. And same for USM vs Old Dominion. State trying to mount a late comeback, we will see if they have enough juice.
