Dawg83
State so far not hitting many homers but a ton of doubles. You can tell the approach from McMullan is different than what it was under Gautreau which seemed to be more HR reliant and frankly boom or bust. Bulldogs4
Actually attended my first game in the new Dude yesterday afternoon/evening. It is amazing. I had walked in and looked around when it was empty previously. So I can now say I have attended games in the Old Dudy Noble (1967-1986), the first Grandstand Dudy Noble (1987-2018) and now this absolute gem. Regarding hitting, the ball does not carry as well early in the season at the Dude. Two or three balls probably would have been home runs later in the year were warning track outs last night. We handled business very well last night. Need to keep that approach.
Dawg83
Welp didn’t take long for the homers to come lol. State hit four of them today in a run rule win.
David44
USM took 1-0 lead top1st, Joey Urban HR. OS 3 run HR bottom 5th. Eagles answer top of 6th, triple single an Gillespie HR. Great game, but not paying D1 baseball $29 to stream 3 weekend games. Both teams into bullpen now. Edited February 22 by David44
Dawg83
Huge win for USM. Three regional host spots in Mississippi this year… very much a possibility with these three teams.
David44
USM puts 5 on the OS bullpen. Final Eagles 9 OS 4. Joey Higden 1st inning HR, triple an 2 RBI single. His OPS this season is +1400.
Bulldogs4
Excellent win for USM and especially for the bus drivers as they keeping creeping closer to being a Regional Host this season. Edited February 22 by Bulldogs4
Dawg83
State and Ole Miss both sweep and remain undefeated. Admittedly have not watched OM much so far but all indications are their pitching has been strong early on, and you already know about the power in the lineup. State looked better this weekend than last, though obviously the schedule so far has been lackluster. I think the Sunday starter role may be on the verge of changing. Foster has struggled through two starts and it seems like Duke Stone is the obvious choice to get first crack at it. Next Sunday will be interesting given that it’s against the current number one ranked team in the country. OM heads to Houston for tourney ball next weekend, State heads to Arlington. rebmus
It's hard to ask for a better start than the three MS teams have had so far. We'll know more about Ole Miss and State after a few weeks of conference play. 15-15 in conference play will get (at least) a 2 seed and has a strong chance of hosting. The SEC schedule is just brutal.
Bulldogs4
Very impressive weekend for USM. State and Ole Miss need to take care of business tomorrow against SEMO and AP. Then focus on what will be a big weekend for both. USM hosts Bama tomorrow in what should be a very competitive game. And then travel to La. Tech who is always good. Very good to see our teams playing well early in the season.
Dawg83
These three teams have looked like wrecking crews so far. State and OM both dominated lesser opponents again. USM is destroying Bama.

Dawg83
Nice win for State over Arizona State. Close game through five innings and then State broke it open on ASU’s bullpen. McPherson looked very good in his start, too. VA Tech on tap tomorrow.
Bulldogs4
Good start to the weekend for State. Tough break for the ASU pitcher not being able to continue because of cramps. Heart breaking loss for Ole Miss in 10 innings against Baylor. USM with a solid road win at LaTech.
Dawg83
OM bounced back with a dominant win over Ohio State today. They have their highest profile game of the weekend tomorrow against Coastal Carolina.
Dawg83
State cruised again today against VA Tech. The potential on this team is pretty obvious so far. Two good starting pitchers and a super deep lineup. We’ll see about the number three starter and the bullpen hasn’t really had many high pressure situations yet. But hard to not be impressed with what you’ve seen from State so far. Two huge games in the next three games, with UCLA tomorrow and a trip to Hattiesburg on Tuesday, where USM has also been on a roll. Bulldogs4
UCLA has dominated Tennessee & A&M so they are very formidable. Will be a good chance to see how we will fare against an equally talented club. Coach O’Connor said the bullpen is in good shape and Stone is going to be the starter. And I am sure that UCLA has some good bullets in their pitching staff as well since they have been barely even tested so far. On the one hand I could potentially see a low scoring game but most likely I think we will see a moderate number of runs. Potentially a 6-5 type game unless one team has a big inning and blows it open. We will see. Looking forward to the match-up!!!
DrownInEtown
Both of these teams are living up to the # beside their names. Great ball being played
Dawg83
Yeah that was an Omaha caliber game in Arlington today. Tough way for State to take its first L, but they absolutely looked the part this weekend. Kudos to UCLA, they are very worthy of their number one ranking. Still a huge game on Tuesday at the Pete. We will see if there are any hangover effects for State after the way today played out. But also USM is good enough to win straight up regardless. Big, fun baseball games in early March. Don’t see it very often.
Bulldogs4
Tough loss but not necessarily a bad thing at all. UCLA is really good but we are equally as good. Each team had some early season hiccups but some of that will get cleaned up as the season progresses. Plus a bit of bad luck as well. A great game nonetheless. Fans got more than their moneys’ worth. Intriguing match up with USM Tuesday. Weather looks to be beautiful. Might be a record crowd at the Pete. Both teams are playing some outstanding baseball. Dawg83
Been all Eagles so far at the Pete. Jumped on some State mistakes and the constant pitching changes with each guy being effective has kept State’s offense off balance.
Dawg83
USM wins 7-6 in what ended up being another great game. State came back down from 5-0 to take the lead, then lost it on back to back strikeout wild pitches. Feel bad for Maddox Miller, he was a bit of a tough luck loser. Made the strikeout pitches to get out of the inning and nothing to show for it. State will be perfectly fine. They showed a lot of resilience to rally after it snowballed on them early. USM just played a cleaner game and it was enough to get the W at home. I’m super impressed by this USM team and it feels like they’ve done a lot of the hard work already, and the rest of the year is more about just handling business against teams they should beat in the Sun Belt and they should be an easy host and very much in play for a Top 8 seed. Both teams feel very worthy of their Top 10 ranking.
DrownInEtown
Is it crazy to think Southern legitimately is a National contender this year? I mean I know it was a midweek game, but it feels like they’re top 20 talent wise, pitching and hitting I don’t think they could beat State in a series, but they looked legit Edited March 4 by DrownInEtown

I don’t know if they are quite talented enough to win the whole thing, particularly on offense. The pitching depth is excellent, though. I will be curious to see the rematch in Starkville in three weeks. State probably feels like they gave it away with the strikeout wild pitches and missed pop up. You also wonder if the slow start was a little bit of a hangover from the UCLA game. But obviously USM is just flat out very good, too. The catcher defense issues are a little more forgivable given the context that Milewski is injured, we learned last night. But you can point to wild pitches / passed balls as arguably being the difference in both of State’s losses.
