NF looked bad in the spring. I figured Mize would put up a TD or 2 in this one. North Forrest was very big up front. We struggled defensively on the first drive that allowed NF to use some clock, and when you only play 1 quarter with only 1 timeout there’s not much you are going to learn. We did score on our first drive, on the 2nd play actually, but it was called back due to a holding penalty. When that drive stalled, we punted. North Forrest went 3 and out and punted back to us but by then there was only 2 minutes left on the clock. We managed to get to the red zone but we had already used our timeout and the quarter was over. Nobody learns anything from a 1 quarter scrimmage, but due to other teams dropping out of the jamboree we had no choice but to play just 1 quarter

They recovered a fumble near the 10 yard line on north Forrest’s 2nd play of the game and then scored two plays later. I would be surprised if north Forrest had 10 yards of offense. Like you said it was just a 1 quarter jamboree. Next week should be a good one.

That’s why I thought Mize would put some points up against them, but maybe I am too high on Mize this season. Guess we will see how things go when they play at Taylorsville next week. In the spring, North Forrest defeated SE Lauderdale then lost to stringer. After stringer defeated North Forrest they then turned around and lost to SE Lauderdale. You learn very little from scrimmages. Especially when you only play for 1 quarter. The only thing we really learned is our offensive line has got to clean up their mistakes. Either way, I agree with you on learning very little from scrimmages and jamborees like I said above. But, the little bit you do learn from them can help set the stage to improve on mistakes made before the season starts. I think Mize will learn from and fix their mistakes from last night and have a good year.

But yes, it basically just serves as an opportunity for the players to hit somebody else other than their teammates and figure out what needs fixing before the first game. We were supposed to play a 2 quarter scrimmage against Forest but they backed out. Then we were supposed to play a 2 quarter scrimmage against Lumberton and they backed out and went to Magee instead. So that left us with an odd number of teams, so mize and Raleigh ended up having to play one quarter each against north Forrest. Tville and Scott central played 2 quarters. Chunky6617
Speaking of Scott Central, they had 6 or 7 holding penalties in 2 quarters of play. One of them brought back a TD.

I had heard about Forest but did not know about Lumberton. That would’ve been a good matchup. I saw they beat Magee 7-0 I think. It does suck that it left y’all only getting a quarter a piece. I heard they played well defensively, but it looks like they got a lot of help. They looked pretty good. Their offensive line is a lot like North Forrest, very big and physical looking but didn’t always play as good as they looked. But it was really hot yesterday and you could tell they were getting winded. 3 of their offensive linemen were also starting on defense against Scott central. When they brought in the backups, there seemed to be a pretty big gap between the 1’s and the 2’s. They have two really good looking receivers in #9 and #1, although #1 was lined up as an H-back a lot yesterday. The QB was a little inaccurate at times, but at other times when he was accurate the wideouts dropped the ball. I’m pretty sure they had one first down, and the touchdown pass was a deep ball that was tipped by the DB and fell right into the Tville receivers hands. Defensively, they did really good. They got to the ball really good. Scott central tried to establish buck quite a bit in the wing-t but it never worked. They did have a few nice gains on some misdirection plays and the bootleg worked for them. They definitely had more yards and first downs than Tville but they killed themselves every drive with holding penalties. Tville made a big red zone stop to end the game. SC got the ball on the 5 yard line after a Tville fumble and Tville stopped them at the 1 on 4th down.

I figured the O-Line plus inexperience of QB would be a weak ish link for them this season. I’m sure he will develop as the season goes on. He has plenty of athletes around him and a tough defense that will make that process a little easier. Their first 5 games are rough though. Especially Raleigh and Heidelberg back to back weeks. The OL is good. They just aren’t deep. They can’t afford any injuries and with a lot of them going both ways that will make it tough. But they look really good across the front, especially for a 1A squad.
choctawman
Playing both ways is a state of mind. If a player hs to play both ways, he should not have to have his coach tell him to condition more. I am 80 yerars old and played in the 60's. It was still 48 and 60 back then. I loved playing both ways because I loved the game. How many of you remenber Chuck Benarick. Played center and Lb for the Eagles. Last name not spelled right. It’s fine for smaller schools to have players playing both ways. A lot of small schools have multiple players doing it. Where it hurts them is when they play schools that have a legit 2 deep defensive line.

Rebel Bert
It may be time for multiple counties to have a jamboree of say 8 schools are involved.
pancho
What contender looked the worst in a jamboree? I'll start, New Albany was totally dominated by Lafayette. New Albany has the best OL in the state(supposedly) who is a 4* LSU commit and was abused by some guys with zero juco offers. New Albany has has a USM QB commit. BigT
Taylorsville had a bunch of penalties also,on Taylorsville Td they were like 2nd and 25 to go for a first down because of holding penalties, both teams had a lot of penalties but it's just normal early season! I’m hoping this was more of a sign of that.
