I think he’s trying to make a positive difference there.  Maybe @WABO1, @Wareaglefan1us or @slicklizard could chime in and give some insights as to what they expect out of the War Eagles this year.

Below is my predicts based on opinions coming out of first couple of weeks of practice:

 

D3

1. Brookhaven

2. Laurel

3. South Jones

4. North Pike

5. Natchez

6. Sumrall

 

D4

1. Wayne County

2. Northeast Jones

3. Stone

4. Vancleave

5. purvis

6. East Central

 

South Jones vs. Laurel will decide 2/3 and NP vs Natchez will decide 4

 

2-4 in D4 are pretty even. Could finish any type of way.

I will tell you what I know which is not a lot lol. Coach Hankins is definitely trying to make a difference in these kids not only football but life lessons. If anyone has followed the news about Wayne County lately it hasn’t been very good. We have had more drive by shooting than anywhere I can think of being a town our size.  So Coach Hankins is dealing with keeping his kids out of that and teaching football to. Football wise he may have his best team since he’s taken over. He will have a new QB but around him he has talent. Good Running Back and a good line which should be the strength of the team. He has a tight end that’s getting D1 offers he’s a big kid probably 6’4 about 250 with great hands. Defensively they should be solid as well. I’m not predicting they win state but if they stay healthy they definitely make some noise. Their non region schedule is brutal. They play Pascagoula in a jamboree, Williamson (Mobile) , Northwest Rankin, George County and West Jones before even getting to region play.

Access to any of us that I know has been pretty much severed . So I don't get that much info any more, Thats due to Bubba Hathorne pretty much . I think Coach Hankins wants people to be involved and interact with the team .

 

 Honestly I don't even try anymore . I tpldwareeaglefan last week that I hoped we would be good enough again in my lifetime to want to drive somewhere and watch them. I appreciate what coach hankins has tried to do but the brand of football they are putting out now is boring ,predictable and shows what the whole school  administration is committed to when it comes to athletics.

 

As far as this years team it will go about like the rest of this staff's have.  I don't expect much because they don't expect much . You can't run a ball control offense and not have a defense.   Support wanes, nobody goes to the games anymore . The only thing left there is a name. If they renamed the school East Jones it would probably be more fitting. They could't find people from Wayne County to run things ? You know why there are only a few competent people left there. You have to leave Wayne County to live a comfortable life so most of the brainpower is gone,

 

For all this harping and chest beating they have done about test scores , it hasn't helped the kids much at all. Look at the kids they are turning out with no direction or vision of what they want to be. All they care about is securing more funding to enrich themselves.

Kids know when you feed them a BS message. They can either leave their home to try and have something or stay and wind up in jail or worse.

Meanwhile the ones spewing the crap can live and have a nice life there. Kids see that and they resent it. As do I

I said I wouldn’t talk against the coach anymore so I won’t.   Wayne County just lost to Leake County . Leake freaking County. I don’t they punted all night.

Someone needs to get front and center and take the arrows for these kids because they are taking them on and off the field .  This next line is a warning for anyone up there still listening. They won’t keep taking them either. Their people won’t let them. 
I am honestly amazed that things have turned out this way. Year over year

I don't know . Every time I think it has hit rock bottom it seems that there is another cliff to plunge off of ahead. I don't even know what their goal is as a football program anymore. 

I wasn't around South MS for most of the nineties but I hear it got pretty bad for a stretch .  I can't imagine it being any worse than now. 

Put me in charge I will show you what to do. These people aren't elected and can be terminated. Let them pick up garbage after the games again if they want to hang around for retirement. That's the problem isn't . Finally drawing a good salary and have sacrificed IDK how many kids so they can get these last few years to bump up their retirement pay.  Is how many students drop out factored in the school performance ratings ?  I see you

The system Wayne County is running is for small schools with 30-35 players.

They say they are dressing about sixty but have been bragging all

summer about having 25 seniors. Half the team is seniors. What does that say ?

South Jones @ Brookhaven is a huge game for 5A South this Friday.

If Brookhaven wins, they will most likely run the table and have home field

advantage thru South State. But South Jones controls their own destiny too.

Win Friday, and then beat Natchez and Laurel and they will be #1 seed.

South will have #5 Jackson back from suspension. 1st 6 games with him,

they averaged 35 points per game. Last 2 without him, they scored 11 total.

Laurel really has no hope for the #1 seed, unless North Pike or Natchez could

beat Brookhaven later and they win out and beat South Jones.

What’s crazy is laurel could be 4-6 make playoffs and run the table back to state. And their fans will ignore the obvious problems in the program.

I feel like Laurel has done just enough to make a playoff berth, but that's it.  This whole rewarding bad football teams is the product of having too many classifications and having too many teams make the playoffs.

I totally agree with this statement not so much about Laurel but about rewarding bad teams. I can remember back in the early 2000s when WC was a really good football team. If you got into the playoffs the work was just beginning. It wasn’t win two games and head to Jackson. The playoffs were a gauntlet many times we faced off with Picayune but played really good teams before them lol

In some instances back in the day the region games were harder to win than the playoff games.

That was a sure loss for us LOL.  We knew the drive home from Waynesboro was going to be a long one.

Absolutely but by the time you got the playoffs you were so beat up lol. It wasn’t win two like SEC ball even the bad teams were pretty decent. At one time we were in an eight team region.

I remember one year where region 5-4A had 7 of 8 teams with winning records in regular season.  And the 6th and 7th teams had heated playoff teams from other divisions in their non-division games.

It’s hard to get on board with taking victory laps for squeaking out wins over East Central and Vancleave.

Reclass has destroyed the quality of football in South MS. Even back when 6A was created competition didn’t take this big of a hit. It all looks boring and the same now . What happened to all the good coaches? Even most of the good players haven’t been replaced across the board.

Slick, come on back for the final few weeks of the season. WC is now hosting a game in the first round of the playoffs and have a legit shot at beating South Jones or Laurel. Win that and I feel like they could beat Brookhaven Co in round 2. It is not a far fetched dream to see WC in south state championship

Pretty much all 8 teams who make the 5a south playoffs could make it to south state. WEAK!!!!!!
