Part reclassification process is the ADs have a form and deadline to report what sports they will be playing 2 years. The schools know what they can afford and can't. It's not hard to purchase uniforms for sports . Most schools use a vender or local sporting goods dealer.

Does anyone think resources should go to scholarship sports, or does that really matter? Only a small percentage will get any kind of scholarship anyway.

That only works with boys sports. Girls hs teams who produce scholarship athletes get overlooked entirely.

Not all schools provide uniforms for all sports. Many girls sports have to purchase their own unis… while hardly any boys sports do

What schools do not provide uniforms for all sports? I've never heard of this in Mississippi. Never heard of any sport, male or female, having to buy their own uniforms.

I can promise you that every sport sanctioned in Mississippi, male or female, the school will purchase their uniforms.  It might not be every year like some parents or coaches want, but they do buy them.

Lots of girls sports in schools are “pay to play” - you don’t pay for practice gear & uniforms, you’re not on the team. But it just never happens with boys.
Booster clubs will find ways to get talented football players the gear needed to play. But a talented cheerleader or dancer? Nope.

Untrue.

Fake news.

All public school sports (male and female) are taxpayer funded. To do otherwise, such as you claim, would be a violation of Title 9.

If schools do fundraising for a sport, then that's what it is...

But your assertion is false.

Again, you’re just throwing stuff out there to see what sticks. Now it’s not just uniforms, but it’s practice gear too. There are not a whole lot of athletic departments buying any male or female teams practice shirts, shorts, etc. Athletic departments will buy uniforms, practice uniforms (if they’re being turned in ever year), and equipment. The booster club may purchase everything else for the players, but it is paid for by fundraising from the players or getting sponsors. Same thing that the girls team have to do.

I can tell you for a fact that there are sports in 7A programs on the coast that do not buy uniforms for their players. The booster clubs or the parents are on the hook for them. Most do not use any state money for their athletic program. Take OS for example. The entire athletic budget is less than 1 percent of the total district budget for the year. Outside of football most of the facilities including the ones built within the last 10 years are falling into disrepair.

1% of $90,000,000 doesn't sound so bad

460k compared to 72 million overall budget. They only spend according to what they take in. If the budget goes over in one year it gets taken out the following year. No state or tax money shifts to it. Most sports get 5-7k max. It's not all it's cracked up to be. The coast especially doesn't invest like the northern schools.

You “knowing for a fact” still doesn’t show where this supposedly happens. There is no school out there on the coast that isn’t buying uniforms for every sanctioned sport. Again, little Johnny or little Jenny may be wearing a uniform that is 3 years old and that hurts yours/theirs feelings, but they get replaced at least every 3-4 years, with the majority of them being replaced within 2 years. Show some proof where a booster club had to purchase uniforms because the school refused to buy uniforms in need. The only time a booster club buys them is if it’s not the sports turn in the rotation, or if they want to do a color that isn’t a school color.
