I think the 1 & 2 picks in region 3 are probably interchangeable at this point, but if Hattiesburg continues the tear they went on during the regular season then they probably will remain the favorites.  Now in region 4 I think the 4 & 5 spots could be interchangeable, but I think you're probably spot on with that preseason prediction in region 4.  Until West Harrison makes the playoffs (which they've never done), then you have to leave them out but they are definitely making some positive strides and Hancock is definitely beatable for them.  Not saying it will happen, but it's a feasible outcome.

If West Harrison can get 2 region wins they will probably make the playoffs. Goula always does well in region play every time they go down to a lower class, and i can really see them going 5-1 in region play. Hattiesburg-West Jones winner should definitely decide the region 3 winner. If not, a major upset happened somewhere.

@CrimsonUnit1988Do you think George County will have a bounce back year this year?  I fully expect them to make the playoffs this year, but can they get the #2 spot?  I have a feeling that might be a real possibility, but I could be completely wrong though and that's ok as well.  I feel like they'll  be an X-factor this year in region 4.

Had a ton of sophomores on the field and lost every game other than OS, Gautier, and Picayune by one score..Could've easily been 7-3 and headed to the playoffs as 3 seed this past year. Obviously that's not how football works.

Who's the next big thing out of GC? Feels like they have a crazy good 4 star every year

QB Deuce Knight. He was a sophomore last year. Look for him to take a step forward this year. He can be special.

I honestly have no idea what it is (maybe it's an epiphany), but something is telling me George County has a turnaround year this year.   I know they've got the hunger to win and that's important, but I think the offseason will pay huge dividends for George County.  Maybe you have a more realistic approach as to what they will do this year, but I certainly think Pascagoula and Hancock are beatable for y'all and am I crazy for thinking that or what?

You have Picayune as the top dog at the moment. West Jones a step below them and then Hattiesburg, Pascagoula and George County all right there with each other. I think George County turns the corner and challenges for a home playoff spot. Pascagoula returns a good amount with George County as well. Hancock could potentially be wild card. They are a hard nosed group that plays tough. They return a lot too, but in my opinion lack overall athleticism to really be a huge threat. Terry is a program I do not know much about. I know they struggled up in 3-6A the past few years but that is a totally different region now. The little bit I have seen of them, they have some nice looking athletes on the field. Any chance they could challenge Hattiesburg or West Jones?

Possibly, but doubtful. But they are at least the 3rd best team in region 3 6a this season

That we both definitely agree on. Not a very high standard to clear given the current region teams and Jim Hill going independent.

Region 3 isn't real difficult to figure out, the real question is who is going to get the region 3-6A crown this year.  It'll be a battle between Hattiesburg and West Jones for sure, but it won't be until the last game of the regular season.  PRC should be improved somewhat, but how much though remains to be seen.  If they end up in the 5 spot, then I think you'll probably hear some noise from Blue Devil country.  If they remain at par (aka the 4 spot) it should be business as usual there.

HHS will be coming out the 6A south. I don't see anyone stopping the tigers but the tigers.

I certainly appreciate your prediction here, but here’s the thing:  The region 3-6A district championship is going to be the last weekend of the regular season between Hattiesburg and West Jones.  The winner of that game will take the region 3-6A crown and have better seeding in the playoffs.  You then will have to navigate your way through the playoffs without taking a loss because this isn’t double elimination like baseball.  It’s a difficult row to hoe for sure.

I have this lingering question in the back of my head that pertains to region 4-6A, so I'm going to ask it and maybe someone can chime in with a response.

Was West Harrison's first winning season last year and Hancock's 6A playoff berth a fluke or were they just victims of circumstance?  I realize they'll be battling it out for a playoff spot, but how much traction is there to gain for both of those teams?

I am kind of hoping West Harrison gets a playoff berth. They were playing meaningful games last season in late October.  Its always been a huge talent gap when teams like Hattiesburg, Picayune, and Gautier play them. But they have always played hard no matter the score.

West Harrison getting a playoff spot definitely sounds feasible because they'll only have to be better than Hancock and Long Beach.  Granted that sounds easy enough and hopefully they can make some more history this year, but in a good way.  They've been bad for far too long and hopefully last season was them turning the corner.

Part of me wonders if PRC canceled the regular season game against Picayune because they don't want to have to play Picayune twice.  If they manage to get the 4 spot in region 3 and Picayune gets the 1 spot in region 4, then yes they would have had to play Picayune twice at Picayune.  I just wonder what the reasoning was behind that decision making process because it'll hurt both schools financially for the next two years.  It just seems like a decision that was made in haste and the bigger picture wasn't looked at regardless of wins or losses.  I also think there's a cultural problem at PRC and hopefully this new coach with no ties to the area can come in and rectify some of that.  Maybe getting Picayune off of their schedule is part of that remedy, but I guess time will ultimately tell.
