Bulldogs4 Posted January 14, 2023 Share Posted January 14, 2023 Coach Leach’s idea on this actually made great sense. Have two sets of rules. Players coming out of high school have two choices. Choice A - sign a traditional scholarship and then receive a stipend of say $150,000 (the amount could be different) upon graduation. Choice B - free agency - players negotiate their deals, they can sign year to year contracts or multiple year deals. They still have to maintain their academic standing to receive their compensation. It may be a bit different than how I described it but most people scoffed when he proposed it. Upon further review it might make more sen$e than the current chaos we are in. One that people are really high on, granted, but still a kid that was in high school three weeks ago. That said, right now it sounds like Rogers is likely staying put. Good grief. Rumors that Rogers is looking around. Some say it’s about NIL, some say it’s about the new OC system. Speaking of NIL, when a player signs with a “collective” just what exactly is he doing to earn the money? Besides playing. Lol. I think most of the time they’re required to do some autograph signings and the collectives set up some endorsements here and there. But they’re definitely not having to do much at all. The story on the Rashada kid that signed with Florida is nuts. He was apparently offered a $13 million NIL agreement in writing and signed it. Apparently the collective is now trying to back out of the deal and Rashada is refusing to report to campus until it’s resolved (he was supposed to report a week or so ago). Second, old school finance says don’t write a check unless you have funds in the bank to cover it. I suspect we are going to see more and more of these absurdities in the future. There’s already situations where a player receives one time payments from one collective, then transfers to another school for a better NIL deal. From what I have read, the agreement was made and then the athletic department may have stepped in and told them they needed to chill out and rein it in. The thing is, this controversy started before signing day and the player still signed with UF and was talking them up in the Under Armour AA game right after New Years. This is a little frustrating from the outside looking in. It's not like it was when Croom had to burn Arceto Clark's redshirt so that he could play. But I also think that State was so deep at LB last year, there just wasn't a whole lot of room. There seems to be several of them. I won't say I have any "expectations", but hiring Golding sure does help OM's chances. It really depends on who else wants those portal players... such as A&M for example. A&M will outbid OM by too much for the Golding tie to matter.
