pancho
I'm in the wait and see category on Golding. His stable of 4 and 5 stars gave up way too many crooked numbers the last 2 years so I'll pause and see if they can eek out 7 wins because a loss at Tulane in game 2 will make 8 wins very difficult. Dawg83
Someone gonna have to explain Spencer Sanders to Ole Miss for me. I don’t get it for either side. Howard was a good get. Adding Sanders a day later makes zero sense to me unless Kiffin isn’t sold on Dart. Which, say what you want about Dart, but he’s better than Sanders, who has not been very good at Oklahoma State. And from Sanders’ standpoint, did he not want to go somewhere where he’d be the presumed starter? Edited January 19, 2023 by Dawg83

Although with OMs offensive line, it may not be a bad idea to have 3 “starting” QBs. Even Howard was a surprise to me unless he is expecting Dart to leave next year. Dart would have to make a drastic improvement for that though.
MSTSatchmo
You can’t say that those guys are afraid of competition though. Howard and Sanders could have found somewhere to walk in and have a very good shot at starting.
Dawg83
I do find it somewhat humorous in Howard’s case that he’s transferring from LSU where he was the third string QB but might be the starter in 2024 to now an identical situation at Ole Miss. MSTSatchmo
Maybe Kiffin will have a different offense for each QB. That will make defending his 4th down plays from his own 30 much more difficult.

I look at it this way, OM definitely needed 1 more QB if not 2 to not only challenge Dart but also be in line if Dart gets injured or when Dart leaves. LK's high school recruiting leaves a lot to be desired, but he may well be the transfer portal king.

I tend to agree but if he only wins 7.5 games on average per season is it really that good of a performance? I guess the 9 million dollar salary is such that Lane feels good either way. MSTSatchmo
I don’t think anyone has questioned why OM brought in those QBs. They were definitely good pickups for them. The main question is why Spencer decided to be a backup after starting 4 years, and why Walker left LSU because he was sitting behind Daniels and now is sitting behind Dart. As for the portal king title, I think Kiffin wants to be labeled that, but Norvell at FSU has really taken it to a different level. Prior to this number 1 or 2 ranked transfer class, he brought in 30 and almost half of those were named to an All-ACC team. That’s the important thing. Getting quality production from them. maroontide06
It appears Arnett got his 2023 coaching staff finalized and I’m glad they are keeping Coach Washington on staff even though it’s an off-the-field role. I never would have guessed that they would move Tony to running backs, but he’s been a football coach for so long and if there’s anyone you can trust it’s Tony Hughes. He knows football and has a brilliant football mind, so I think things will be just fine there. It’ll be interesting to see the tight end thing unfold and who will be starting in that position come September.
Dawg83
Apparently there’s a chance State gets Dillon Johnson back after all. He’s committed to Washington but supposedly is no longer interested in going there. Ole Miss and South Carolina are also pursuing. If it turns into an NIL bidding war I don’t think State will throw a bunch of money at him, and that would clearly favor SC or OM. But maybe he’s just had a change of heart about wanting to leave. We shall see.

I hope he can get things settled about where he wants to play football this season. I think he would do well if he came back to State and he would definitely have the chance to thrive more. Dawg83
I’ve said before that I thought Marks and Johnson were State’s best offensive players in 2022, so it’d be great to have both back, especially considering that Barbay will run the ball more than State did under Leach. Having said that, if Johnson doesn’t come back, still think State is fine at RB. Price did really well in Johnson’s spot in the bowl game. Also added a JUCO RB and a true freshman from Texas that was a very dynamic player.
maroontide06
It appears State had a good portal day today. Picked up Vanderbilt’s starting QB in Mike Wright and also Freddie Roberson, a WR from Eastern Washington. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next. maroontide06
Is there any news on what Dillon Johnson is going to do? I'm curious if anyone has heard or read anything.

Well I think that will be ok if he doesn't come back. We are going to have enough depth at RB and we've got to make room for some TE's. There's already going to be some attrition once the portal opens back up since we are over the 85 scholarship limit. I think if he wanted to come back they would make room for him, but maybe they advised him to go another route.
maroontide06
After stalled negotiations last week, Oklahoma & Texas are now headed to the SEC in 2024 for a cool $100 million dollars. Will the SEC move to a pod format or will something else happen?
