Or, as 83 said, does Briles adapt his offense for Rogers. I would say the odds are pretty low that Jefferson would come to State. Well hopefully State can get someone else. I don’t think it’s a bad job if they find the right fit, but that will be the key for Arnett. Bulldogs4 Posted January 6, 2023 Share Posted January 6, 2023 Briles is an okay Coach but I am not really distressed about him not coming. Arkansas folks seem to be hoping he was going to leave. That was kind of a red flag to me. Matt Brock has been promoted to DC which I think is a good move. The OC hire is important. We certainly need to leverage the strengths of the air raid offense going forward along with some other elements to see if we can improve offensively. I think that would probably be the consensus of Arnett and the coaches he has on the o side of the line. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds in the coming days. He had a great record as HC at Valdosta State, however his GA Southern, Murray State and Samford records have just been okay (minus this past 11-2 year at Samford). I’m like Bulldogs4 there. I’ve never heard of him before and I honestly don’t know what the infatuation is there. Maybe it’s the experience factor? But who honestly knows. It’s really up to Zach and who he wants at this point. If it takes some time to get this hire right then so be it. It’s an important hire and one that he needs to get right, because if he doesn’t get this hire right he will be suffering from it long term. Moreso about his offense than his head coaching record I guess. Samford’s offense is Air Raid-ish and has been successful, and that’s including some strong showings against SEC defenses. He would not be my top choice but I think you can do worse. Kevin Johns at Duke would probably be at the top of my list if I were considering realistic options. After that, I’m not really sure. Shannon Dawson’s name has been tossed around some, not sure how I feel about that. Casey Woods at SMU had a really good offense this year and he was born in Starkville (the son of Sparky Woods), but he’s very green as an OC, this year was his first go round. Arkansas fans seem to be ready to move on from Briles like Bama fans seem to be ready to move on from Golding. It's definitely a potential red flag for either, but I slightly lean towards Briles would be a good hire as OC for almost any team along with Golding would be a good hire for almost any team. But I’m a huge Kittley fan though and think he’ll be a P5 head coach soon. If you made me call it today, I kinda think it ends up being Dawson. I would’ve been fine with just keeping Mason Miller but Friend seems to have a good enough track record where it makes sense. Plus a good recruiter with MS ties. The Bobo thing seems to be dead now but it would’ve for real been like the worst case scenario. If it was ever even a possibility I don’t get it.
