slicklizard
What game would be the biggest upset ? Grenada over Hattiesburg ? Poplarville over Louisville ? I don’t know much about the others. I would have to go with Louisville losing. They have a stranglehold on the rest of the state in that class. What are some others ?
CrimsonUnit1988
Thing is, Louisville could literally win 1A-7A. They're that good.
coastball
Biggest upset would definitely be Poplarville over Louisville.

After Poplarville has had the knock down-drag outs with Mendenhall and Columbia, that's got to help Poplarville even though they'll be underdogs. It's past time for Poplarville to win a state title. Dubaction
Grenada… who was literally just in this game last year….Has one loss to OG in Week 1. Hattiesburg is the fav… but not by much.
Big Daddy
I've seen 12 of Poplarville's 14 games this year. They may be dogs against Louisville, but I guarantee, they won't back down.

After a day or two it didnt bother me at all anymore because there's nothing that could make me feel better or worse about it. You'll feel better if you let it go. Like you said they had a team that had their core in the championship game last season(they were overwhelmed in that game too) so right out of the gate they were able to execute. Meanwhile ya'll were putting a lot of new faces on the field and Oak Grove still whooped them pretty good, Their game against Warren Central is on youtube . It was anybody's game until well in their second half. They look suspect on the left corner of the end zone throws and the QB getting the edge . That's Hattiesburg go to plays. Their entire defense is going to be their weak point and overwhelmed . That's the side of the ball they hang their hat on . It breaking early will be the end of the contest. Dubaction
We probably returned the same amount of production between the two teams. But they beat some pretty good programs after that . I don’t think they have anyone to slow down Keyes. No one does. But they’re about as formidable as an opponent as Hattiesburg could have gotten at this point
JACKTOWN91
I would say that Grenada has played the more difficult schedule by far. I don't think there is an underdog in that game. I would say it's evenly matched. That or I would give the edge to Grenada because they've played tougher teams.
coastalball
Judging on most of the rhetoric online, seems like Poplarville and Gautier. Biggest might be Gautier, just because no one is even entertaining a conversation about them haha.
GTownDanger06
I believe this game will be competitive from start to finish coming down to whether or not Grenada can defend the deep ball and if the referees allow them to play physical on the perimeter. Honestly I don’t Hattiesburg sustaining drives on Grenada (no one has). Now Grenada will give up splash plays in the pass game at times and that’s what is terrifying about this match up but if they eliminate that Hattiesburg will struggle to score. The Oak Grove game everyone is referring to was week 1 (it’s on YouTube) and that’s really the only common opponent. The score is not indicative of the contest. Grenada gave up a 3rd - 28 conversion for a TD on a screen and a punt return TD and still had the ball on the 8 yd line to tie the game at 31 all with about 3 minutes left in the game before throwing an INT. I see this game evenly matched coming down to whether or not Grenada can defend the down field pass. Vance won’t be sitting back there patting the ball because Grenadas front is really good and pass blocking or blocking at all isn’t high on the Hattiesburg list of priorities up front on offense. I completely get this, but the thing about Gautier is that they are sacrificial lamb at the West Point Invitational. They've also never played for a state title before, so no one really knows what to expect from them. I also don't think there should be an expectation set for Gautier either. The fact that they have made it to a state title game is a great accomplishment. Poplarville OTOH has fought tooth and nail with Louisville before in the recent past (with the dang lead too), but they just haven't been able to finish. I personally would lean more towards Poplarville as being the biggest underdog simply because they have a shot at winning. If Gautier had the slightest remote chance at being able to pull off an upset in 5A, then yes they would definitely take the crown as the biggest underdog. Rawcones
I think people are forgetting hburg has a legit defense. It really didn't show last week because Picayune is Picayune and on top of that we had key starters out on the defensive line. If hburg defense is healthy I don't think Grenada is moving the ball at will on them. But from a neutral stand point i feel like this game will come down to how Grenada defend HHS. Keys has gotten all the praise which he rightfully deserve but Barnett is the real deal as well.
Dubaction
From my understanding those same guys are gonna be out this week too. Won’t matter though if Grenada doesn’t get stops

Poplarville just beat Mendenhall and Columbia in back to back weeks. I completely understand your logic, but you also have to factor in coaching to the equation. Poplarville has done an outstanding job in that department and they've got a staff that specializes in doing more with less. They will be prepared for Louisville, win or lose, and they won't be an embarrassment either.

It’s no secret that Hattiesburg is uber talented at WR. If Hattiesburg is short handed up front on defense then that could be a game changer because Grenada is a really physical football team and can really run the football. Grenada’s back McCaleb Taylor is grossly under rated in the state of MS. He has rushed for just shy of 2,500 yards and if he catches a seam good luck. You aren’t catching him. If Hattiesburg is going to win the best thing they can do is get up early. I feel like if this game is tied or Grenada has a lead at half they will win because they will lean on Hattiesburg and wear them down. If however Grenada finds themselves playing from behind like they were against Oak Grove well that ain’t good….
