Think his dad coached there as an assistant in like the 70's so I don't think so. Good Hire though. I think he is currently Oak Grove's DC

RMcCormick66
I expect them to be competing for the South State Championship shortly with that hire.

This will be their 6th coach since 2011
FanofMSfootball
I just got to see Lawrence Co run spread and be successful at it. And they are not in the district to be guessing in. And they are not in the district to be guessing in. If they have the athletes to run spread, then they should. If they don’t, they shouldn’t. Good coaches adapt their offense to match the type of players they have. There are many teams running a spread offense who would be more successful if they went to a wing-t simply because they don’t have the players to run a spread. Even teams who are in the spread still run the ball the vast majority of the time.
pancho
Yea but I have come to see that the O a coach knows is simply "all he knows" and will continue to do the same thing regardless of talent or where he is coaching.
BrickCity
The coaching tree coming out of Oak Grove will be exciting to see. Already have one at West Jones and now we see a new head coach at Lawrence county. They got to learn under the best offensive mind in MS high school football. It will be exciting to see what all secrets Merchant brings with him
