Reclassification Could Occur As Soon as This Fall (22-23)
Rebel Bert replied to TK_on_the_Coast's topic in Football
The committee has the latest and greatest numbers. I am assuming from January or first week of February as I was told. -
Since I am sure that no one wants to play at 8 am on any day, I think it will be 1, 3, 3 or 2, 2, 3 . I will not be surprised that they move it a week later to avoid a SWAC championship/SEC/Sun Belt preparation situation.

We don't have byes with 16 or 32 in the playoffs.

Maybe they can release classes then. The person who posted the proposal may have those numbers. We may want to post our own region projections. -

How about SB Live post the new classes with numbers if they are that close to MHSAA. -

I expect most biggest cities do have this situation. I expect that's why they go with 9-12 grades. -
2A: New Site, MSMS 3A: OLA(girls), St Andrew's(Independent),now St Patrick (Independent) 3 Regions will have all 4 teams in playoffs, 3A-8 may only have 3.

Then you take the 8th-11th grade. That may be tough know Jackson middle schools actually feed more than 1 high school. But that can be taken care of in a few days. -
HHS, Wayne County, or South Jones, 2 of the 3 if they go by the up dated #'s George County and West Harrison move up to 6A and 2 schools go to Region 3 6A 6A R4. 6A R3 West Harrison. George County Ocean Springs. Harrison Central Gulfport. Terry Biloxi. Petal D'Iberville. Oak Grove Hancock. Meridian St Martin. Brandon Pascagoula. Pearl 5A R4. 5A R3 PRC. West Jones Gautier. Brookhaven Picayune. Florence Vancleave. Laurel East Central. Forest Hill Long Beach. Vicksburg Hattiesburg. South Jones Wayne County. Jim Hill I can see Provine in the south but that trip from Vicksburg to maybe Columbus/New Hope or Cleveland tells me nau. Natchez is largest 4A for 1 year.
-
I am hearing that if you reclassified for 1 year the travel issue gets worse. 5A on the coast will only be 6 schools thus Hattiesburg and one other goes to R4. Only one Tupelo, South Panola, or Oxford goes to R2.
-
That's what happens when you make decisions behind the voters back and then expect them fall in love with it. All that because the students can't take ceramics and performing arts classes.
-
Anyone seen the classification numbers for the April meeting.
-
I think the smaller regions will be basically the same 5 minus the 6th school plus maybe 1 that goes up in class.
-
I am hearing no way this bond vote passes.
-
You still need a passing game which is what JDC had this year.

I was told it's going to pass with possibly 1 vote against. I was also told that it will take place in the fall of 2023. They have updated numbers. I am assuming that these are January 2022 numbers. He said they want to see the schools placed in regions come April meeting. This is from an executive committee man. -
Shrinking the number of schools in each class by 24, 32, 40 will work. You end up with more than 7 classes. It's not a gap issue. It's a I shouldn't have to travel from South Panola, Tupelo, Natchez, etc to play a Region game in the metro Jackson area, or a school along I-59. Natchez created their problem by combining North and South Natchez years ago. You try to please 2 or 3 to end up with an extra namely Harrison Central moving to Region 3 7A. You then create roughly a Columbus to Cleveland trip in Region 1 6A or Greenville to West Point. You can't please them all. Once you put 24, 24, 24, into the equation you end up with a 3A Region 4 in the Jackson area and possibly 2A Region 4 in the same metro area. They should be screaming at traveling to Walnut or Tupelo for a playoff game. Your not pleasing everyone.

Alabama has reclassified starting 22-23 school year. 390 schools with 7 classes. 7A =32, 6A-1A divided evenly as possible. 7A has 4 Regions, 6A-1A has 8 Regions. Unlike Mississippi schools are not evenly divided for Region play. Should a South Panola, Tupelo really need to be put in Region 2?

Others reported this beginning in the next cycle. He states this year. It goes back to ok which numbers do you use. They say the committee wants the regions on paper. I think it's done deal. If it's this year it's probably the 2020 numbers. -
I guess we won't know the exact direction in terms of numbers as to classes and regions as to who and when we go 7A-1A.
