Slick 5A Top Ten Pre Region

Yes, Vancleave and Laurel were tied with the same enrollment number, so they ended up putting 9 teams in Region 2.

I just hate the fact that we couldn’t play Wayne County last year and there’s no guarantees that we play Wayne County this year.  We’ve always had some classic and important games with the War Eagles .

From a personal standpoint I hope so because it would bring them back to where there would some easy trips for me .I don’t think it can though. The pine belt will have too many teams to replace to not put us in the mix. Merlin give me a projected region a while back and man was it weak sauce.

Actually these kids need to play someone like you guys. You cant be good until you see what good is.

Honestly this team isn’t ready and I don’t think they will by the end of the year either   When another team gets a good play on them, they lose a little focus for the next play.  Not all the time but enough that when you play people that are executing as good as you, it will get you beat 75% of the time.

Thats youth and its just going to take games to get past it. Don’t get me wrong in the next two or three seasons we got some kids everyone is going to know their names. A lot of people just don’t know how mishandled things had been the years after Coach Mangum left. It took Coach Boyles two or three years IDR exactly, to build a solid contender and that was after Bobby Hall. I can see the same trajectory with Coach Hankins. While we are are on the subject of Coach Hankins, through the couple of games we dropped the coaching has been steady as a rock. When you have that and good players, soon or later things are going to click

Slick, where do you see Wayne County going during reclassifcation? Is there a possibility of you guys staying 5A?

I'm not trying to answer for Slick, but Wayne County should still be 5A like us next year.  The unknown is how they will split regions 3 & 4.  There will be 12 teams in 5A South with (2) six team regions.

I think the general consensus is that Wayne County will be somewhere in region 3 & Picayune will be somewhere in region 4.  This could be all wrong, but that's how the trajectory is looking at this point.

I believe East Central, Vancleave and Stone will be pretty much locks for region 4. I have heard rumblings that Gautier is on the verge of staying 5A as well, but I just do not see how that would be the case. So if Picayune and Wayne County stay 5A, I would imagine them being in the "coast" region as well.

I think I saw someone post where Lafayette and West Point would potentially be 5A as well with Vicksburg, Holmes County Central and Laurel. 5A would be a pretty dang tough classification to win!

It'll definitely have the weeds taken out for sure and it'll be a fine crop of football teams in 5A.

8.West Point - It’s a new season now. I will give them a chance to rise just out of respect @Lafayette

 

9. Wayne County- Have the capability to beat anyone on this list this week but the Maroon Tide.They would be just as likely to lose. I see them more than most and I think our coaches get the most out of what we have. Being honest, we lack explosion against decent defenses so far.    @ South Jones 

 

10.Florence- You have been on the little Debbie training regime. We’ll see how that works out. Big bump if you can knock off Laurel down on the swamp cabbage             brown turf. Don’t step on the snipe hiding in there. It’s that bad.

Pretty spot on here Slick. It should start to sort it self out some in the next 2 weeks.

WJ definitely under the radar after the MC debacle. Looking forward to Friday @Brookhaven and then host Natchez.

I will say that last Friday was the 1st time that WJ had their whole starting defense on the field. Wingfield didn't mater or tell us much, but these next 2 games should/will.

That is the side of the ball that has always lead the way for WJ when they have been very good and gone very far. We'll see.

Yes they probably will be, but how come they've never played Madison Central in football before?  Aren't they right next to each other?  Is there some bad blood between Ridgeland and Madison Central that they are just avoiding?

@maroontide06  I'm assuming based on the name that you're an avid Picayune follower, and I'm curious as to how you feel about Picayune potentially staying in 5a and not moving up with the current region into 6a? Would be slim picking for great competition in region play at that point.

I think I get what you are saying BubbaJ.  If we stay 5A, then our region competition would be a bunch of cupcakes.  It's not something we can really control.  If they were to put us in region 3 (which they've done before), I think we'd have a good bit more competition in region play, but our real season starts when the play-offs start.

@BubbaJ I think partial remedy for whatever happens would be to control what we can control.  The good thing about having 6 team regions next year is that we will have two fewer region games to play, which means we will be able to add two more non-region games.  So that will give us more liberty to schedule tougher opponents that we wouldn't have had the ability to had we stayed with 6 classifications.

That would be interesting for 6A regions if Gautier were to stay 5A.

Which team will fall the farthest after Friday   ?

Everyone has looked at the poll by now and have discerned their feelings about who is ranked or not. I think every week I am going to pick three games that are interesting in the poll and throw them out to get everyones feelings on them. Chime in with your thoughts and please no gotchas if some of us inevitably pick wrong. Maybe we all can learn something about teams we may not be familiar with.

Easy one first I think

 

West Harrison at East Central_ East Central will retain their spot and Cinderella will go home with a pounded pumpkin. How smashed  the pumpkin  is will determine  the distance WH falls

 

Florence at Laurel - I admit knowing very little about Florence but this is a big game for Ryan Earnest. His defensive philosophy is on the ropes right now. I have to be up that way and want to go to this game. We will be playing right up the street at South Jones. I will have to classify this a s field research or WABO1 will tie me to the whipping post for not being with them. I need to lay eyes on these teams. I think Laurel squeezes this out and we are still scratching our heads about Laurel. Florence falls from their spot.

 

West Point  at Lafayette- Does Lafayette deserve to be in the poll if they win this ? I don't think we will have to deal with that dilemma  as the Point starts getting their region by the neck again and moves up a couple of spots

I’m not sure how I’m supposed to format this, but here it goes:

 

East Central gets a win over West Harrison.  This game might be a little bit competitive early on, but I think East Central pulls away late and ends up winning by 21.

 

Florence pulls the so called “upset” over Laurel.  I want Florence to win and so does calpreps.  Florence has Mississippi State Commit Zakari Tillman on their team and he will be a difference maker in this ballgame.

West Point will beat Lafayette simply because they’ll have a little bit more confidence.  I think this game could also very well be too close for comfort.

That’s a good idea but maybe we can do it in the region thread . I would like to keep this thread about poll teams only to help formulate the poll for the next week. I’m going to start a discussion in this thread after   Friday night to get insight on any games of significance.

Laurel over Florence. Has Florence every played between the Bricks? If they come out slow and Laurel gets a lead, look out,

                                that place will get to rocking.
