John Curtis still a power house? OG should be well prepared after matching up with Wayne County earlier in the season

They lost to Zachary, LA 40-21 last week so I guess they are back to a normal football team.  I don't think John Curtis coaches them anymore because you see him on the TV for Saints pre-game commentary.

Zachary is one of the top programs in the entire Southeastern part of the country. I’m sure JC matches up well with OG. JC definitely a much letter team than Wayne Co

Thanks for the insights FBdude.  I honestly had no idea what kind of program that Zachary had.  I just saw where John Curtis had lost to them and saw where they were mortal when they used to be immortal LOL!

Zachary is really good. They’re currently on a 17 game winning streak. OG will have to play much better than the last few weeks and put it all together tonight and finally play a complete game.

I wish MC would schedule some out of state games. That would challenge our guys in a more complete way than these local games

He still coaches. He’s just all over the Nola tv stations on high school sports. If their game is not out of town he leaves immediately after their game and goes to do the Friday night scoreboard show on one of these stations down here. I asked him last week in Drago’s when he was hanging it up. He said the way we have looked I quit coaching after last season. We both laughed. He said the team this year is going to get better as the season goes on.

You can go by that school from about ten in the morning all the way to five or six in the evening when their is not some age group out there practicing football.

Well thanks for the info there Slick.  I didn’t know you lived in LA.  You probably have some good insights on the Louisiana teams.  I guess it’s closer for you to come to Picayune for a game than it is to make the drive to Waynesboro.

Yessir. I live just across the river in Covington. Picayune is about forty minutes. Tylertown is about an hour, Columbia about the same. I love that 43 Hwy trip up to Columbia. That road climbs and climbs and at its crest you can see for miles with the pearl river winding down below you. You make me pick a place where I have to spend  eternity , it would be living on top of that hill with that view.

We lose a heartbreaker tonight. 23-28. What a game by both teams. Sick that we didn’t win that with all that happened especially in the 4th and at the end. We had our opportunities in the game and the last 3 mins with the game on the line was just crazy. Too much to explain. We ended up trying to spike the ball around the 20 as time ran out.

We looked much better this week than the first 3 and  yes JC is a good team. Just need to keep improving and we will be fine when region play begins.

I was at the game sitting on the visitor side and was shocked that John Curtis was allowed to bring in a locomotive horn that was so loud it hurt my ears. During the game they would turn it on after scores but in the 4th Q as Oak Grove was driving for the winning score the damn thing was turned on continuously. Then Oak Grove had to call their last time out with about 20 secs. to go because you could not hear a thing. Then they couldn't stop the clock at the end. Yes, John Curtis was good but O.G. still should have won as they had previously fumbled the ball away on the 1 yd line. I thought Oak Grove got out coached a little bit too.

Do schools just overlook the MHSAA rule that says artificial noisemakers are not allowed at the games? Every game I attend the student section has cowbells horns whistles and other things that are not allowed. If the PA guy is going to read the MHSAA guidelines that are read before every game across the state, regarding noisemakers, they should at least follow the rules and not turn a blind eye to it.

MC used to play West Monroe. It was a back and forth rivalry for a few years started by Hall but ending with Hart. West Monroe refused to play overtime because of some points system that awarded them points for a tie but nothing for a loss. It didn't sit well with MC not to actually finish a game.

a point system for a game vs an out of state opponent? Do they not play Region or District games in Louisiana?

Yes and yes and yes.  It was amazing the game clock would run under 2 mins with the ball in the officials hands after a first down.  But I am not an official so I don’t know!  I do know that we lost 8-10 seconds on that one deal. I am not blaming the officials or timekeeper on the loss because we should have never been in that position so late in the game. All in all it was helluva a game to watch.
