I'm afraid attendance is gonna take a big hit. Many of the good folks are gonna be scared to even go to the game and a lot of the troublemakers are be challenged even getting in the stadium. It's just really sad that something the city of Meridian used to be so proud of has devolved to this.

It’s ashamed what this world has come to. Some of my fondest memories as a kid granted it was the early 70’s but I would be dropped of at the gate and picked up at the gate. I usually couldn’t tell mom or dad what the high school score was but the game of cup ball we had at the back of the end zone was always great.
kids today can’t be kids parents are always have to keep them close. A few bad apples has ruined what is a great time for many.

Meridian high announced today they are instituting strict entrance polices with metal detectors and bag restrictions, no reentry, all students below 10th grade have to be accompanied by a parent/adult and no one will be allowed to loiter below the stands.

I agree about no loitering under the stands. That's not picking on Meridian. That should be a policy at all high school football games. You're supposed to be going to watch the game, not go to the game just to hang out with people and not watch the game.

Things must be getting bad in Meridian for them to be treating it like a pro or college venue, but I concur when it comes to loitering.  They supposedly cleaned that crap up at Picayune last year, and guess what?  It was back in full force.  It’s mainly a bunch of kids hanging out with their friends, but I bring my boy and we sit there like adults and watch the game.  What’s bad is when you try to walk around the stadium to try to get to the restroom and can’t because of all the loitering.  They’ve got police at the games, but they certainly are not enforcing any loitering policies this year.  It’s back to the same ol’ same ol’ I guess.

Now if only they’ll create/enforce policies for the school day itself. The videos I saw on Facebook showed complete chaos and no control there. Superintendent and all administrators should look at themselves in the mirror and instead of blaming others, blame themselves for letting the situation get this out of control.

I am still at a loss for words. One of the great programs and stadiums in the state have been reduced to this. In fact I was planning to take my grandson to the game last Friday but had decided not to because the weather was nasty Friday afternoon into the evening.
I did not know until later in the evening about the altercation and the cancellation of the game.

In hindsight, I think that canceling the game was a huge mistake. You basically let probably 25-50 kids cause a football game to be high jacked.
IMO, that was terrible because you let them win.

This event is on a much smaller scale but anybody that quit flying after 9/11 did the same thing on a much grander scale. They allowed what might happen to eliminate themselves from doing something they previously enjoyed. They let the terrorist win. In this case we let a bunch of thug kids ruin everything for the kids who are doing the rights things and the parents/fans etc. that enjoy football for the right reasons.

Leaves me SMH.

Meridian has posted new rules.

1 Medal Detecters with limited entrance

2 Parents must accompany and supervise K-9 grades

3 No back packs, purses and camera bags are permitted

4 Leave you are not allowed back in.

5 No playing under the bleachers

6 etc, etc

Same exact email and list we received when Ocean Springs played at Hattiesburg. I never saw a metal detector but bags/purses and stadium seats with pockets were searched. Sounds like a good plan if there are problems.
