Gonzalez, Elko and Graham were a combined 0-11. Not a recipe for success. Gotta be better tomorrow. I would bet that’s not the case tomorrow. No matter who is pitching for Arkansas. Bulldogs4
The old saying is that Ole Miss was due for a loss. And it happened tonight but I still think that you will win tomorrow. Almost pulled it out in the ninth inning tonight. Heck of a good game though.
Dawg83
I’m really torn on how I think it will play out. Noland and Delucia have both pitched so well in the postseason. I think I like Arkansas’s hitting and defense better but I like OM’s bullpen situation better. I’m very slightly leaning Arkansas but it’s a total toss up for sure. Wcchaingang
Tim Elko’s place among the greats at Ole Miss is already entrenched. But I have a feeling that he is going to further stamp his legacy as one of the greatest to play at OM tonight. I could be completely wrong but I just have a feeling that he is going to do something special tonight.
Bulldogs4
Elko is one of my favorite players. This coming from a State guy. But to the Ole Miss faithful he is similar to a Mangum or Allen at State. He has been a tremendous player who has come through in the clutch many times. And as baseball fan I appreciate players like that regardless of who they play for. It is one reason why I like Coach Bianco, as a player he was gritty, tough and clutch @ LSU. At a State, we have been blessed with many such players over the decades. I agree with 83 that Arkansas should have the edge but I am sticking to my prediction that Ole Miss wins this game and I won’t be surprised if Elko does have a big game and is an integral reason why OM wins. Yes he is the OM version of Mangum and Allen. If there is one guy that can will a team to a win it is him. Graham and Elko need to have big games tonight. MSTSatchmo
I still don’t know what to expect. I think Arkansas has been the better team all year, but I honestly think, all around, OM is the better team now.

I mentioned defense in my earlier post because games like these often come down to a defensive play here and there. I think of the Brayland Skinner stolen base against Texas last year, a good throw nails him but instead it was high and he was safe. The next pitch Skinner scored on the walk off hit. Vandy and Notre Dame booted it all over the place at times against State last year and it really cost them. All that to say, if it comes down to a defensive play being made or not made I think I’d say advantage Arkansas. Their infield defense has been unreal. MSTSatchmo
Delucia pitching another great game. OM needs 6 more outs.
Bulldogs4
Well done Ole Miss!!!! Now bring it back to Mississippi for the second year in a row!!! Great job by DeLucia!!!
rebmus
The pitching by OM has been unreal in the CWS. Even in yesterday's loss, a "game 3" pitching staff only giving up 3 is typically a win.

Dawg83
Delucia is having a heck of a CWS. Congrats to OM fans on this run, I know it’s been a very enjoyable couple of weeks. The question for me now becomes can Ole Miss get the ball back in Delucia’s his hands. I’m assuming he’s probably unavailable until Game 3. Obviously that means you’ve gotta win at least one of the first two without him. OM fans certainly are warranted in feeling good about their chances given how well this team has pitched. Oklahoma is playing extremely well too obviously. I expect it to be a very competitive series. I think either Oklahoma wins it in 2 and we never see Delucia again or Ole Miss wins it in 3 with Delucia pitching them to a title.
Bulldogs4
IMHO Ole Miss wins the title in two games or three games!!! Very happy for my Ole Miss buds who were pulling for us last year. I know there more than few State/Ole Miss fans who pull for their team and anybody playing the other. But baseball seems to transcend that more so than the other sports. Oklahoma is good but Ole Miss is better and in this case I think the better team is going win the series and with that a National Championship. Just feel it coming on. Wcchaingang
I feel good with Elliot on the mound to win one to get back to Delucia. Oklahoma offense is better than Arkansas’s but Arkansas pitching is better. Edited June 23, 2022 by Wcchaingang
MSTSatchmo
Just based on how the teams have looked in the postseason, I think OM’s side of the bracket was the more difficult. I think today was the championship game. I may be wrong, but I think OM has a more veteran team and that will be the difference. They have been tested all year and overcome a lot of negativity. I’m really surprised at the number of State fans I know who seem to be sincerely rooting for OM. I guess it’s because they got there’s last year. I disagree with Ole Miss having the harder path to this point but it’s largely irrelevant. Florida, Virginia Tech, A&M, and Notre Dame is a really difficult path in 2022. Oklahoma also has not lost a series since early April and won their conference tournament. As hot as Ole Miss has been, OU is arguably even hotter. Not that it matters this weekend, but I digress. I think you may be right on Ole Miss being the older team, that could certainly play a role. I would also expect the crowd to be more Ole Miss leaning. Maybe not as lopsided as it was with State vs UCLA or State vs Vandy, but I am sure OM will have more fans there than OU will. Probably not a hot take to say this, but I think Game 1 is the key. Whoever wins that wins the championship, IMO. Oklahoma’s ace is a big lefty which I know has given OM issues at times. He’s also going to be super fresh since he hasn’t thrown since Friday. But I’m also sure OM feels good about having Elliott on the mound. I’m expecting a far more competitive series than you saw with State and Vandy last year, regardless of who wins. MSTSatchmo
I’m picking OM, said if they beat Arkansas in their second game of the CWS they’d win it all, BUT for Oklahoma to win they have to win the first two games.
Wcchaingang
I find it interesting Bianco chose to start Dougherty instead of Diamond in game one. I don’t necessarily hate the idea just strange to have a guy do something he isn’t familiar with.
MSTSatchmo
OM won’t even need DeLucia. Oklahoma can’t score with them. I think it will only go 2 games.

Dawg83
Barring something drastic Ole Miss is going to win the whole thing. Can’t draw it up any better if you’re an OM fan, about to win Game 1 and have your two best pitchers starting the next two games.
