positiveyard33
4 hours ago, U Remember When said: George Co. has a sophomore QB who's already receiving offers. Stepped in as a freshman last year and lit it up (SR qb injured). Lost a couple key skill guys, Trent Howell will be at Jones and Mojo Dortch I believe Starkville. Won't be able to rattle this one like your average sophomore. OL will have to protect him. East Central has a new HC. Good man who has waited his turn and I think they'll be fine. I don't do predictions, but I feel both these teams are playoff bound. In the district with Picayune, so district champs may be a stretch for both. I believe picayune is for sure the team to beat and a safe bet to win the 4-5A title. The rest of the playoff teams may have a surprise or two in them

Would it be Gautier or George County? Possibly both. I know two yrs ago Gautier was beating Picayune with less than a minute to play and let Picayune score with pretty much no time on the clock. I believe that was the game that put the Gautier qb on the map as he torched Picayune for about 500yds passing. George Co. is a lot like Pascagoula when it comes to being in 5a or 6a. They struggle in 6a but put them back in 5a they turn into a contender.
U Remember When
East Central has played Picayune fairly close the last few years. Running very similar offenses means you have a decent idea about how to attack it. Very few surprises. The deception about the ground and pound offense is that, to your opponent (players and usually coaches), it looks like it would be easy to stop. I've heard people say, "we got this, they only run like 4 plays." Teams that run and practice against the spread sometimes try to run the same defense against a power team like Picayune or EC. Both of these teams know, not just what plays are coming, but what it's going to feel like to get hit from every angle by guys that strength train like they're addicted to it. Sorry, I get long winded. Not to say they never lose to spread teams, but you have to score a lot of points and hope you end up with the ball last. Watched Picayune beat George Co. in Lucedale several years ago 60 something to 60 something. Case in point.
Deonte3455
One thing about Picayune and the like you better have a bad as offense or a pretty stout defense. Trying to eat gaurds play after play it take some tough individuals.
maroontide06
East Central, George County, & Gautier all have to travel to Picayune this year. Let that be some food for thought .
Dubaction
Two of those teams are laughable in my world. GC should be decent though.
positiveyard33
East Central will doing their best picayune impression on offense this year. Just don’t see it going as well for them as it does the tide
slicklizard
Why does Brookhaven have a cream puff schedule down the stretch while WC, Laurel, Hattiesburg and West beat each other up right before the playoffs start ?

That is definitely a brutal 3 game stretch for those 4 teams, really a 4 game stretch because Brookhaven proved last season they were pretty good themselves. But you knew when the schedule was made out that the West Jones vs Wayne co and the Hattiesburg vs Laurel games were going to be the last games of the regular season. I think if you put Pearl River Central at 5th and Long Beach at 7th it would make more sense.
RUNNINGMAN67
I don't really think he has much to work with there. PRC, Vancleave, Long Beach, and West Harrison all suffer from a lack of speed.

Gautier could be a sleeper

Wayne County, and Hattiesburg on separate pieces of paper, toss them around, and throw it in the air and randomly pick them up to chose places 1-5. There’s honestly no telling. Brookhaven May be the odd one out here as it seems they have had slightly less talent than the others the last 8 years or so but that’s for sure not typical of them. They were close to putting it together and finish higher in pecking order last year. For that matter so was Natchez who had the talent to compete with any of these other 5 but they got our coached. They bring back most of their kids and didn’t they get a new coach?
