Hightide
Gautier has a gunslinger for a QB but WJ has a good defense.
coastfootballfanman
The key here is can the Gautier defense stop West Jones. Gautier's defense has been their Achilles heel all season and if teams can keep the Gator offense off the field, it prevents them from getting into a rhythm. They are not as effective when you hold the ball and keep them off the field. I also have to give West Jones a huge boost in the coaching category as well. Scott Pierson vs. Marc High does not bode well for Gautier. I'll take the Mustangs 38-21.
Tiburon
I will go with Gautier - not because I think they are better but just because i don't like the way WJ has been trending. WJ should win by a couple scores here, but somebody always gets upset in round one.
Wareaglefan1us
WJ better be careful with this one. The WJ defense is really good but so is the Guatier offense. Their QB can put up video game numbers lol. On the other hand their defense is not that impressive. I know the WJ QB is not a natural QB and against us he struggled at times. I’ll go with WJ and their coaching staff putting in a good game plan.

He got gun shy after getting hit a few times. He don't like contact
Hightide
Gautier recievers dropped alot of passes they should of caught when we played them, we had them covered pretty tight and gautiers qb was putting it in there to them while running for his life. That QB throws the ball from all arm angles. I watched them earlier in the season against Pascagoula he was running for his life and like you said he put the ball on them. They caught it that night

slicklizard
If Gautier doesn't have a functional running game to keep West at bay the QB will go down and give up multiple INTs. We dropped multiple passes that would have put us ahead of them but they were there because they were having to commit to stopping our run. Pierson will keep the ball on offense and control the clock. West will prevail pretty easily .

Other than that, any running that is done are adlibs by the QB rolling out, or evading pressure that allows him to chew up 8 or so yards each time. They are a true definition of Air Raid. They are going to throw it 40+ times Friday night, you can take that to the bank. lol
David44
They will need some quick hitting passes if they plan on throwing that much. WJ defense has always been about speed, including the front 7, and this year is no different. If he doesn't get rid of the ball quickly, he will be getting chased by some guys that are most likely faster than the guys he is used to out running. The QB is a big strong kid very athletic he’s committed to Ole Miss Or State one to play baseball. The closest thing to WJ defense that he’s see will be Picayune they’re pretty good but I believe WJ has more speed on that side of the ball. CrimsonUnit1988
Look, I’m not saying Gautier will win this game but I find it highly hilarious that most on this entire page give Gautier no chance. I’d lay odds that they have the best QB in the 5A south playoffs. Again, WJ will probably win but you’re fooling yourself if you think Gautier can’t make plays. I mean, I get it, the Gods of football reside in region 3 and region 4 is just the peasant servants that lay at their feet. BUT as mediocre as WJ has been toward the end, and it’s been mentioned on here by region 3 diehards, it’s not out of the realm for Gautier to be able to break through the impenetrable WJ defense for a few plays. Again, the kid is good. Again, WJ should win. But I just don’t think Gautier is given enough credit on here. It’s really the defense for Gautier that’s suspect. You are absolutely correct with your statement. He is without question the best QB in 5A south maybe 5A statewide. A lot of people know nothing about him, like I said he can put up video game stats. This game may be closer than a lot of people think. WJ has a definite advantage in coaching in this one.

WJ is good on defense but their offense is not as good as last year’s. They have a kid that’s not a QB playing QB he’s a pretty good athlete. I certainly did not think my post implied that Gautier had no chance. This is the playoffs and high school kids so no result is guaranteed. Just 2 years ago we saw WJ beat a Hattiesburg team with Snoop Conner badly that everyone had penciled in for State. The problems for WJ lately have been injuries and inconsistent play on offense. The defense has been the best unit, even after losing a really good LB. As a fan, I want to see the offense play a more complete game instead of just 1 good QTR. David44
Also would add, I'm am looking forward to seeing the Gautier QB play. Even though everyone seems to be running the spread offense these days, most don't have a true, skilled passing QB.

But you’re right since the tragedy that took the young man’s life this team hasn’t been the same. They better play next week because Laurel is playing their best ball now.
