Took the wife out shopping today and in between shopping we had a nice midafternoon lunch. Enjoyed it and did not miss football any even though it was on the big screens at the restaurant we ate in. I did a little research this morning on the ODU/WKU game that’s going on now. Put a couple dollars on the 10.5 1Q under cuz of a lot of portal guys and key injuries. Lot of my State friends derided me back in September because I said AZ was a really good team at that time and the win would look good at the end of the season. Depending on who wins and loses above them, that team may finish in the top ten in the final poll. Matt Wyatt accurately pointed out back in September before the game that AZ had done well in the portal and was now in their third year with a good HC. Now obviously AZ would have smoked State later in the year but it was fortunate for us that the game was played early. I have not watched much of the bowl games just because I have been busy but yesterday during the Rutgers game the commentators were discussing a player who told his HC not to play him anymore because he had played in 4 games and did not want to lose his FR status because he had already decided to enter the transfer portal during the season. That is so ridiculous. Imagine a player telling his coach “don’t play me.” College football is headed toward a dark age because the quality of the product is going go down, down, down. He’s a UF alum that idolized Steve Spurrier. I thought Arizona was improved when they played State but I definitely didn’t think they’d finish 10-3. And that’s 10-3 with two overtime losses. There are 3-4 reasons why but the main one is because there is just too large of a gap between the end of the regular season and now. It just doesn’t feel like college football season still. I think the expanded playoff will start the weekend before Christmas, so maybe that will help things. Only a two week gap between conference title games and first round playoff games next year. Dawg83 Posted December 29, 2023 Share Posted December 29, 2023 I’ll throw some NY6 and Playoff predictions out there for the heck of it: Mizzou vs. Ohio State - Mizzou at full strength, Ohio State isn’t, give me Mizzou Ole Miss vs. Penn State - I have a tough time getting a read on this one. Penn State’s defense was outstanding but they’ll be without some key guys. Similarly, I think Penn State’s offense stunk but I don’t think it’s a particularly good OM defense. Total coin flip for me, I think I lean slightly toward Penn State just because I have concerns about how OM looked offensively down the stretch, and this will be one of the better defenses they’ll have played this year. But it wouldn’t remotely be a surprise if OM wins. Should be a great crowd, Penn State travels well and it’s not a terribly lengthy trip for most OM fans. Georgia vs Florida State - neither team wants to be there, but darn near FSU’s whole team isn’t playing. I think UGA wins comfortably. Oregon vs Liberty - Oregon comfortably. Liberty played zero P5 teams this year, think this likely won’t be close. Bama vs Michigan - I like Alabama here. I don’t know if I’ll ever pick against Saban with a month to prepare. Also think Bama just has more talent. Washington vs Texas - I think this is going to be an awesome game. Texas could win the whole thing or lose right away and it wouldn’t shock me. I don’t think Washington can win it all but I think they can win this game. I’ll take the Huskies in a high scoring game. Bama is my pick to win the championship, FWIW. I’ve been the same way. Even last night during Arizona/OU which I thought would get me back excited for some good football. I’m hoping the Mizzou/OSU game tonight gets my motor back running. Butterflies are starting to kick in though for our game tmw. One thing I found odd about this bowl season was South Alabama playing a home game for their bowl game. Then a UFC fight broke out. Was having a similar conversation with in-laws over Christmas. Put a bowl game on TV and had to clarify which bowl it was by naming one of the old sponsors. Lol. I do feel like we need more food themed sponsors. Nobody cares about a bowl sponsored by a real estate company, give us an Olive Garden Neverending Pasta Bowl or something like that and let’s just keep getting goofier. The Pop Tart Bowl was awesome.
