When the things that you are doing aren’t working, you have to do something different.  We never were able to do that. Not that it would have changed the outcome, but it would have made the game a little bit more competitive and interesting.

Tonight was a night where having a passing attack for you guys would have probably helped a ton. Heckuva season for you guys in Picayune! 2 state titles and 3 straight south state appearances. The Stogner era started strong.

(Re:  Russell Mitchell in the 2011-2013 era).  It worked back then, why not now?

@Merlinand @David44congrats on your butt whippin’.  Y’all have a great football team no doubt.  Enjoy this time in the spotlight and y’all travel safe to Oxford next Friday.

Thanks sir.  I was hopeful for a win but by no means did I expect this result.  I was thinking 17-14 type game this game was very similar to our Hattiesburg game.  If west stays focused this week prepping for Grenada I think we similarly whoop them.

WJ 10th grade rb had 9 rushes for 208 yards.  Last year against picayune as a sophomore he fumbled a couple times, one on long run just before half that would have put west in scoring position.  His tendency to fumble last year is why Wj coaches decided to abandon run for the 2nd half last year.

I posted in another thread west would lose 5-6 starters on defense this year.  I was wrong.  It’s more like 9 or 10.  West defense will take step back next year.

Offense returns both rb’s, qb, 2 wr’s, 2 o line with a 3rd that was in and out of starting lineup all year.

west starting defense gave up 6 to laurel, 6 to Jackson prep, 7 to Hattiesburg, 7 to Hancock, 7 to picayune. And there could be a * next to the points by prep and hattiesburg.

Not that it would have mattered, did davis sit or play last night

Couldn't play. Davis plays cornerback on defense and running back. Lost a dandy dozen cb and tailback with him not playing. Number 4 Smith probably the best player on offense went out early in first quarter. Bad luck hit us at the wrong time but that's part of football.

I agree.

I agree.

I just hope that a valuable lesson was learned in that sometimes you can’t just stick with what’s worked.  West Jones was a different type of animal and I guess we were probably shell shocked to an extent and I get that.  The fact that we had no alternative offense to run is what concerns me.

We gonna lose alot on Defence and Offence as well We losing a couple running backs our Quarterback and just a couple on the offensive line.  Defense  we lose Hickman,  Waller,  J.B. Macwillams, Amari Tyson  and some in the secondary.

Tyson is going to be the biggest loss of them all. That young man is IMPRESSIVE.

Well that’s the issue when you run an offense like Picayune does they’re not exactly built to play from behind. It’s a thing of beauty until you run into a team that can stuff the run all night

And I know I’m probably beating a dead horse here, but in 2013 we were down 35-21 to Oxford late in the 4th quarter. If we had stuck with our traditional under center run offense, we wouldn’t have been able to mount that comeback.  We had something different in the tank that frigid cold night in Jackson that allowed us to make the necessary comeback to win the ballgame in regulation.  Why did we abandon that?  Are our coaches not smart enough to have their own mind and do what Russell Mitchell did?  Do we need to bring him back home to teach our coaches what to do?

Having the ability to be able to spread out and throw it some would only make a team like Picayune that much more dangerous.

WJ deserved to win the Prep game, but the only * should be the touchdown that the Refs clearly stole from Prep before halftime. It was very apparent on the replay. Prep should have had the lead at the half.

I thought then and I think now - WJ is the best team in the state. I believe they'd beat the 7A champ.
