Bama goes down.

Have no idea what happens next week.

On paper we should get killed but is it possible that Bama is vulnerable?

They beat Florida by 2 and lost tonight. Offensively, they are awesome but their defense is not quite as good as it has been.

Again I have no idea what may happen Saturday at State.

A&M over Bama is one of the more shocking college football results of recent memory. Usually when Bama loses it’s not totally out of left field, this absolutely was. Zach Calzada looked absolutely terrible against State last week and played the game of his life tonight.

That said, there were some warning signs with Bama that we ignored because of who they are, but would have been big question marks with any other team. For instance, they lost A TON off last year’s team, and are relatively inexperienced in many spots. And their offense is not as explosive as the last few Bama offenses.

My guess is Bama absolutely destroys State next week just to make a point. But hey, I guess we will see. Bama has played on the road twice and struggled both times, I expect a good atmosphere at the very least, especially since it’s a night game. Maybe State is good enough on defense and can do enough offensively to put up a respectable showing.

Oh State will get destroyed next week.  Like UGA vs Vandy destroyed.

I noticed during the second half of Bama/OM that Bryce Young does not like to get hit.  If you can slow the run game down and put some heat on Young, you can beat Bama.   Young was off most of the night and never looked comfortable.  His WRs had some big drops also though.

I think the craziness may have something to do with following the covid year.  The players missed a year of true road atmosphere.  Also, the physicality of teams seems to be hit or miss and maybe that has something to do with missing some live contact during the last 18 months.  Overall, defense seems to be weak.

The win is actually a negative for me toward Fisher.  Where was that team at the rest of the games?  That's on the coach to me.  Now that we know more about what Arkansas is, A&M should have been unbeaten coming into this game.

HB,

A&M is very talented across the board but they lack experience at QB. Experience at QB is very important for most teams.
With respect to A&M’s record this year that you feel they should be undefeated, you can look at State in a similar fashion. Some folks say State should be 5-0. OTOH, we could easily be 1-4 at this juncture.
I agree that having larger crowds is affecting teams that are on the road.
COVID definitely has affected teams with respect to preparation. Plus the transfer portal and immediate eligibility has helped some teams immensely and possibly hurt some teams as well (though in the latter case it is hard to gauge the effect).
The year is consistently inconsistent and will probably  continue for the rest of the season.
The only team that I can envision going undefeated this year is UGA. But even they are  susceptible to being upset on a given Saturday.

Been a wild ride so far and looks like it will continue to be through out the season.

This has been one crazy weekend of football. For Alabama, it’s like most of the players were left in Tuscaloosa, but giving the point the Trey Sanders and Jase Mccllenen are out indefinitely and Malachi Moore got thrown out for a stupid targeting call, the game plan was thrown out the window. TAMU capitalized hard on the DBs and the run game was there when it was called.  I have to give it to Jimbo and staff on having them ready from last week. The play calling on both sides of the ball made Alabama defeated from the get go. Passing it three times from inside the 5 while Brian Robinson sitting not gettting the finishing touches. State won’t have a chance against this team next weekend. Bama will come in more prepared and will blitz the crap out of us.  Our O line better strap up hard because it’s going to be a long game for the trenches. Protecting Will is a must Saturday night.

Ark/OM:

KJ and Matt balled out hard.  Played very well. The decision to not put go into overtime is stupid IMO. I know both teams couldn’t stop each other but what is wrong with putting it in OT??? Arkansas could’ve won but simply gave them the game. Both defenses are concerning just like Alabama.

Kentucky/ LSU

Coach O will be gone by the end of this year. I think they will do it right to him to coach it all the way out. Kentucky just may be for real but we will see come Saturday afternoon in Athens. This will definitely be a battle for the SEC East.

Other teams

Tennessee is looking scarier as the year goes but still will lose some games. I see them maybe giving Alabama fits and could possibly beat them. Auburn is still auburn. Cincy and Iowa have been playin great ball. The rankings are coming really sorry so this weekend, most teams needs to put on  Show.

Definitely a crazy weekend JTrill.

It's easy to say the going for 2 was stupid in hindsight (since Arkansas didn't convert), but there was a decent chance they'd make it. There was also a 50/50 chance would end up winning in OT, so why not go for it while they had the momentum and Ole Miss's 'defense' hadn't stopped them much all day? I don't think there was really a right or wrong call there. Now, the play call drawn up wasn't the best one. KJ is a HOSS to bring down and the option seemed to work well for Arkansas with KJ and a nice stable or RBs. That was the play I expected.

I'm not overly sold on Ole Miss, Tennessee, or Kentucky right now. Wins are wins, but let's see how the whole season plays out. Ole Miss had a nice win over Arkansas this week (barely), let's see who picks up the win between Ole Miss and Tennessee.

How crazy would it be if Kentucky beat UGA? I'm here for that crazy, but I sure wouldn't bet on it. Kentucky is a solid team, but I don't seem them taking down Georgia.

Orgeron is toast at LSU. The only question is him being fired before the season ends or after the season ends.

I figured Ogeron would be gone before today's end. Guess LSU's admin didn't have a contingency prepared.

Orgeron’s buyout is $21 million dollars. He is not going to be fired this year or possibly next year either.

People can speculate but he will remain the coach there unless they can fire him with cause. Which I don’t think will happen because then you are talking about something that will really be ugly and could effect their football program for some years to come.

I know it easy to throw $$$ money around these days but with after effects of COVID it would be awfully hard for the LSU hierarchy to justify paying him over $20 million to NOT COACH.

Just don’t see that happening this year or in 2022.

The most amazing part to me about A&M beating Bama is that A&M blew the big lead and then got it back at the end. I think everybody expected Bama to win once they got the lead with 5 minutes left. A&M had been sputtering badly on offense.

But nope, A&M immediately responds with a TD drive, forces a three and out, and drives down the field again for the game winning kick. Pretty shocking for me at least. It is very rare for a team to weather the storm against Bama like A&M did.

I will reiterate that this was one of the most surprising outcomes I can remember in recent SEC football. I had Bama winning that game by 30-40 points.

Yep. I think we all thought this would be blow out city. I think you alluded to it in an earlier post. Bama has a lot of new starters. They had to hang on to win at Florida. Then some of their armor cracked Saturday night.
They may very well wax us Saturday night. Right now it is really hard to predict.

That was impressive.  When Bama went up 38-31, I thought for sure that was the ballgame.

Since A&M beat #1 and MSU beat A&M, does that mean...

Naw, I guess it doesn't mean anything but that it's all a pretty big mess right now and especially if Kentucky were to beat Georgia.

I have some complicated thoughts on State-Bama. LOL. Might go ahead and post the Week 7 thread today.

With everything going on at LSU and the investigations, I'm leaning LSU leans hard on Orgeron to "resign" with a nice payout (maybe $7-9 million). There's a decent chance LSU could fire Orgeron "with cause" due to the investigations, but that would likely lead to lawsuits between Orgeron/LSU and I don't think either side wants to get into years of a lawsuit with depositions that will end up public.

I'm all for LSU having Orgeron another year, hopefully 2 more years... but I'm pretty doubtful he's there next year. Players are quitting on Orgeron now/
