It’s only my third game watching them in several years but I just don’t understand the play calling. The defense will be fine in 5A but it won’t matter if the offense isn’t opened up. You’re going to get in games in South MS where you have to score points no matter how good your defense is and I’m just not not sure our personnel is being used correctly. We’ve gotta get the ball in our playmaker’s hands in space and there is no debating that. Fighting in a phone booth is fine if you’re a knockout artist but WC isn’t that right now.

Weel, rock bottom since the turn of the century.  They were pretty bad before 2001.

I’ve seen enough. A change has to happen this offseason. Three years into a rebuild shouldn’t look like this. I’ve seen young WC teams before and they didn’t look like this. Youth is no excuse. The Wing-T will never work here. This team will have a losing record. 
 

It’s time to call Todd Breland up from Wayne Academy and get this talented program back on track. Hankins is a fine man but his brand of football won’t work here. Maybe a change will be made before this 9th grade class moves to varsity. Hopefully politics won’t get in the way of doing what’s right by these kids and what is left of this fanbase.

You are right. They were. It’s just been steady success for the most part over the last two decades, I forget they were not great in 90’s.

I just hope everyone can direct the blame at the guy who’s really behind this downfall.

Why would the guy doing the selection when asked about how it was going say we are not going to talk about the search then run and hide in his office ? Well that’s what you do when you know nobody is going to support what you are doing in requiring the new coach would run the wing t. Now why would he do that ? Because when he was a coach he was made fun of and told how pathetic his teams looked. We been saying it for years and he was going to show us. Well he showed us he really did. 
Coach Hankins is nothing now than he has ever been. A  coach in the lower classifications with outstanding character. I don’t think he really knew what he was walking into.

If the same person is over the hiring process again it will be the same incompetence and spiteful process as before.

He couldn’t get a job as a coach so Coach Mangum let him come pick up garbage around the sidelines after games. Now he’s saying who the coach will be. 
Coach Cooley needs to step in from the position he is in now and take charge over the whole process.

Slick, do you think if Hankins would hire an OC and let him run the offense that could help things or is it too late and much deeper for that?

you answered it with the last statement.  youngwareagle said it we are not a wing t school. We got athletes at QB that can run, throw and have to be accounted for. Not squatted down hiding under the center.

You do know that Cooley is the middle school principal at Northeast Jones right? Even he got out from under that terrible administration. The best thing for WC would be for that guy to retire. He has done nothing but kill two very good programs.

I didn't know he had went to Jones County. I knew he didn't stay in the WC school system. He's the only one I knew of recent times that I would trust to make a good decision, Hire him as a consultant , let him volunteer , I don't really care . Someone has to step up and get their arms around this thing. 

It doesn't surprise me he got away from this loser. He was probably forced out because old Beat Four won't let anyone in his circle who is a threat to his butt kissing way of doing things.

People like him flourish in this era of appointed Supts because they come in blind about the workings and he attaches his lips to their hind parts. He has dam sure destroyed our football legacy at this point. It is a total rebuild  now and if he is there for a new hire he will backstab and work against him at every point.

I don't think the super is the problem. He allowed the high school administration to make the last few hires including the head football coach. This is the same guy who ran a good NEJ program into the ground before coming to WC and doing the same. He has been in charge of making the last 3 hires. He was basically forced to hire Mangum which is the only good hire he has made across the board for WC athletics.

He wasn't even here when Coach Mangum was hired in '11.  Coach Chapman basically got Shetland hired after Mangum but he told him he had to leave too when he didnt work out so I have no qualms about his intent at that time. Then covid hit and lo and behold I see this loser out there limiting Kevin on how close the kids could get to each other at football practice. It made me nauseated. 

 I don't know what pool of slime he crawled out from but the first time I seen him was picking up trash after a game for Coach Mangum. I stopped and bumped my brother on the arm and said if that isn't run off he will destroy the football program here. If he even touches a practice football bury it and salt the earth it's under. He's never been even remotely successful at it . Blames everyone else when he isn't. He's just never had control to force his spiteful moves on anyone until the last few years. I've tried to go against my gut with him bypassing candidates from Boyles tree but like every other time in my life my gut was right way back when I saw him picking up garbage.

Bottom line he has to be gotten away from the athletics at Wayne County and I don't see how that is possible with Coaches having to answer to him . He just hired a Basketball coach that is 107 years old and was with him at NEJ. He won't hire anyone that might offer a different opinion than him. 

I don't think the Super is the problem either but he was dam sure told how this was going to turn out when he was given say so over this last hire. He has to be kicking himself now for listening to the wrong person.

What’s wrong with the him wanting the school grounds to look good and picking up some trash that people are to lazy to throw away in trash cans. He isn’t the one that bypassed the Boyles tree. That would be the former Supt. that held a grudge. Hathorn was going to bring a certain former coach up before the board but Jones shut it down. And pretty much forced them to hire Shelton. The basketball coach is a different situation. At the point that happened you gotta take who you can get.

I think he is a great guy, and he does a good job keeping the school looking clean and performing well academically.  I'm just basing my opinion on facts and those facts are that he has made waste to NEJ and WC athletics. Poor hires for football, baseball, and softball.

I can’t and won’t argue about the NEJ situation. I can tell you that Coach Cooley didn’t won’t to leave WC as a matter of fact he attended Fridays game. He made father decision so to speak. His son plays football and baseball at NEJ. So in order to get to watch his son he took the job like any good parent would do. If you can find fault in that something is wrong. 
As to what’s wrong at WC? Step back and look at our defensive line. Do you see the size and physicality of the WC of old? Look at the scoreboard when is the last time before this season you’ve saw that many points given up? WC has always been known for a big, fast and physical defense. But Benito Jones, Jerrell Powe, or Steve Gandy is not up there.

The offense Hankins runs is the double wing.. if he actually ran the wing t there would be different results.. but that’s beside the point.. I’ve backed him as long as I can.. the offense needs to get consistently better in all phases… the defense has taken 4 steps back this year compared to the last few and that’s bc McCann doesn’t blitz as much as Cooley did and it hurts… the talent level is no where near what it used to be but it’s a lot better than the results we’ve been getting.. I don’t care about politics… you either want what’s best for the school or you don’t and if you don’t then get out.. when it comes down to getting rid of Hankins or keeping him.. I’m on the fence about it… I went over the pros and the cons a dozen times… the bottom line is the results of these games and how they are lost… last Friday nights game for example… D’Ibverville ran for like 300 yards running a simple speed sweep out of a modified double wing formation… the same speed sweep the offense runs in practice daily.. so you’re telling me other teams can run that play and pick up 15 yards a carry but yet when our offense runs it we are tackled for a 5 yard loss? Lol like make it make sense.. in game adjustments shouldn’t be that hard… on both sides of the ball.. unless I see some serious changes over the second half of the season then this staff has lost my support… hitting rock bottom will be enough for a reset.. but hey if the staff needs some help with adjustments in game or what to do differently just ask me.. I don’t mind helping..

As a WJ fan that felt many a heartache over all the L’s WC gsve us in years past, I’m quite happy with our current winning streak over WC.  However it isn’t enough just yet.  I hope WC keeps going its current course for a few years still.
