I'm sorry nt throwin shade but wj has literally played nobody worth mentionin yet. nobody. How can you rate a defense that has played nobody? Or an offense that can't get going against nobody? it easy to look good against inferior opponents. i need some to take to the jury. i like wj but dont think they "that dam good"

Great take here.  They definitely don't have a big boy schedule, so you make some great points.  If they played the teams that we have played so far and are going to play, how would they fare with that?  That's definitely an interesting line of thought.  I don't even think they've left Jones County yet.  Correction:  They went to Wayne County for a few hours last Friday.

Hard to gauge how they’d do with someone else’s schedule. I do think they are very talented based on what I saw for myself. With a freshman QB they woulda definitely lost to Brandon and that school out of Baton Rouge. In my opinion.

I will say this though, Catholic was a beautiful looking football team.  They were damned impressive just in warmups, and frankly that's just not something you see everyday.

Thats correct. Region 3 winner has homefield all the way thru this season

Y'all are right. The "playoff instructions" article I finally found on the MSSHA website was dated June 2022. You would think with all the extra money rolling in

from the 7 class expansion, they could at least make the site more user friendly and up to date, but maybe not.

Oh well, still lot of football to be played, so we may end up having to go to Carriere anyway, if we can manage to make it out of Region 3-6A.

What is this?  Reverse psychology?  There's no way that West Jones has to go to Carriere, unless they just want to take a field trip there on a Tuesday.  There's nothing there for them.

West Jones hasn’t played anyone really.. Laurel hasn’t looked so good this year but they definitely have the biggest Oline an Dline I’ve seen in a while. West was able to keep them from moving the ball an oline did well against laurels size.. west running back #10 is the biggest back I’ve seen in a while he could do some damage when the O-line gets the blocks down.. as far as qb he’s a 9th grader who has some growing to do but is athletic .. defense wise they are huge

About the schedule. West can’t help it that they’re in-county natural rivals and next door county rivals of the last 20 years, all decided to just suck it up at the same time.  South Jones has done this since the late 80’s so no surprise.  Northeast jones was a power till 2007 and honestly just need better coaching but no one wants to be there.  Laurel was thought to be good this year and Wayne county has been a bit down for 5 years but their last 21 years of history shows that this shouldn’t be normal for them.

I expected WC and Laurel to be much better then they are. Idk why y’all still schedule those other Jones schools. I’m sure they’re good for the gate but for the sake of competition they’re not helping.

Be that as it may….don’t be surprised if fans around the state want to see WJ beat a legit contender at some point.

The Jones County school district takes the larger percentage of ticket money from every home game of the 3 schools and pools it and distributes it evenly amongst the 3 at the end of the year.  Doesn’t matter if nej accounts for 10% of it, south jones 10, and west jones 80.  They will all get 33% of the total returned to them.  Games they play against each other basically a larger boon for the district to to put in the pot vs any of the 3 playing host to anyone else.  So the district will “encourage” the 3 to play each other regardless.

Laurel is actually a decent ball club they just don't have it quite together yet. For lack of better term they are a threat to any team they play on any given night.

Cycle appears to be changing in Jones county based on the last two years of JRH football. South Jones 8/9 group is the most talented in the county. WJ has struggled mightily in those classes. O

Oh please.  South’s Jr high was undefeated 3 or 4 years in a row around 2012-13 and from 14-18 in high school they had 2 seasons over .500 and both years they went out first year playoffs.   Also Laurels Jr high went undefeated for the last few years and it hasn’t translated to much at the high school level.

Exactly, South Jones dominated peewee an junior high in Jones County 2004 thru 2008. Meanwhile WJ an Laurel were playing for or winning state during an years later.

If the peewee program is doing good and junior high program is doing good then it on Coaches in High  School.  Back in the early 70s and middle 70s we had some tremendous 9 grade teams. The 9th grade in I think 1973 went undefeated and un scored on and we followed it up with like 6 and 2 record. We lost to Pascagoula Comer and Rooster Jones 6 to 0 late in the 4th quarter.  And one if better players fumbled in the end zone on a punt return with it raining so hard u couldn't see the yard  markers. We lost 8 to 6 to Moss point Mayo. When all of us got to High school we was lucky to win 2 or 3 games all year for the years we were in high school.  So I think coaching contribute to that. By the Dodd Lee's Dad was our junior high coach but wouldn't give him a chance at high level. Thats what Politics will do.
