No one down here wants that travel for all their sports. West Harrison and Harrison Central are the same distance for pretty much everyone, while d'Iberville is the most centrally located and equal for everyone except St. Martin. JACKTOWN91
Oxford and Tupelo would have a large reduction in travel if they were put in a 7 team region with the desoto schools. Starkville and Meridian are both kind of isolated. I don’t think you can ask Harrison Central to go to Brandon, Meridian, NWR for mid week baseball, softball, basketball games. I think this would make the most sense. Region 1 (7) Hernando Desoto Central Lewisburg Southaven Horn Lake Oxford Tupelo Region 2 (5) Germantown Madison Clinton Starkville Murrah Region 3 (5) Brandon NWR Meridian Oak Grove Petal Region 4 (7) Harrison West Harrison D’Ville Gulfport Ocean Springs Biloxi St Martin

BRUTAL There isn't an easy way to get to Natchez either, especially from Picayune. I remember when we were in the region with Natchez. It was charter buses every week LOL. ScaryTerry
Does this prove that there’s no need for 7 classes? IMO if there’s talk for a 5 team region there’s no explanation for having 7 classes except for more money.
Bulldogs4 Posted yesterday at 12:13 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:13 AM Back in the Big 8 days, Meridian was in the Coastal Division. We were in the division with Moss Point, Gulfport, Gulfport East, Pascagoula & Biloxi. Then later the two Gulfport schools consolidated. The Central Big 8 had Laurel, Hattiesburg, Natchez, Murrah, Callaway Provine, Winfield and Jim Hill. So go figure how that made any geopolitical sense… The 7/5/5/7 set up looks to be the one that makes more sense.

Rebel Bert Posted yesterday at 03:37 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:37 PM No need for 7 classes. 6 classes: 6A 24 5A 32 4A 32 3A 48 add 1 for OLA if needed 2A 48 add 1 for New Site if needed 1A Remaining schools plus 2 pending where OLA and New Site fall. 4 regions for football even if top 8 from each region make the playoffs for the money. Especially when it comes to playoffs. Tupelo and Oxford have switched out every 2 years between R1 and R2 to keep things even and equal. Same could happen for R3 and R4. Petal and OG have to travel north over an hour for every district game except each other (and even those 2 schools are 30 mins apart). Same for Madison Central & Germantown in R2. Honestly, 1-1.5 hours really isn’t that bad for the largest division in the State. It’s just not gonna be what these 1-3A distances are. Director has the authority now to divide it by 7/5/5/7 so that changes things. Tupelo and Oxford may stay north this time around.

I will say will all 24 schools have their open date later in the year with the odd numbered regions or will another region say Region 1 6A go odd numbered and give them a chance to keep their open date in like week 4 or 5 as it is now for many. Will these coaches be happy with a South Panola -- Tupelo game being played as non region.
