just off top of my head in Tippah county also are Blue Mountain high and Ripley which are 6.5 miles apart.  In Union county, Myrtle and West union are 9.5 miles apart.  And one for the "it'll never happen" category are New Albany and Ingomar which are 6.5 miles apart.

Not all schools need to be consolidated. But that don’t mean you can’t consolidate the school districts. There should only be 1 school district per county across the whole state.

So, are you talking for county schools I assume? Or are you expecting for example, Hinds County to have 1 district that manages all schools k-12, city and county?

It appears that Coahoma County, Winona, or Choctaw County will get stuck in Region 3.

And Seminary,  JDC, and  maybe Magee go to Region 8, Raleigh to Region 5 pending what happens to Lake, Mendenhall,  and Richland.

 

In class 1-4A there can only be 5 teams per region

Yes. One district for the entire county. If desoto county can do it, all counties can do it

You want this but yet you don't want those tiny schools in Smith County to consolidate.  Quit straddling the fence.

Thanks for clarifying. It may happen in many counties but it will never be statewide. Too many pockets being lined in those City Districts to give it up to one centralized distict

Isn’t Rankin also 1 district for entire county? 
 

I know at one point there was talk of Jones County School District absorbing Laurel cause all but 1 Laurel school was failing hard.  JCSD was all “hell naw” they wanted no part of it.

The pockets being lines IS about the main reason to do it.  That is a lot of payroll the state could cut out forcing consolidations. 
 

If the casino tax money that was supposed to help fund education actually went towards education we wouldn’t be in such a money bind.

Correct. That’s where the money goes, to the districts. Not the actual schools. And I don’t consider a 2A school to be tiny.

I am beginning to think the number 27 or 28 the news threw out there when discussing consolidation may very well be cutting the counties especially smaller counties back to one district office.

that's  why your going to end up with Nettleton  and Mooreville and Shannon in a district towards Macon and Louisville once they send 2 or 3 schools in some direction west or south.
