Games that we will learn the most from Week 2?

Madison vs Brandon

- Madison was fortunate to beat Pearl in Week 1 and Brandon was throttled by Tupelo. I think this game teaches us a lot about Tupelo, Brandon, Madison and Pearl.

South Panola vs Oxford

- South Panola lost 26-25 to Desoto Central (who I believe is underrated) and Oxford man handled a really talented Collierville team.

Oak Grove vs Germantown

- This is the game I want to see more than any other. I think we see where all 3 of these teams stack up in the hierarchy of 7. By all 3 I include Starkville into that fold.

West Point vs Starkville

- @wpgreenwave51 we will see if Morgan made a difference or not? If I’m betting I say Morgan puts it to West Point and your overrated DC.

Corinth vs Itawamba

- These are 2 really good football teams. Corinth is a legitimate threat in the north. They return everyone on a defense that was beaten by Kosciusko 14-0 in a dog fight last year to go to the North Half.

Picayune vs JA

I always like seeing these games vs MHSAA team playing top tier MAIS.

MRA vs Hartfield

The winner will play JA in the Championship.

PCS vs Mize

Can Mize legitimately contend with Heidelberg. This is a pretty good gauge of if it is possible.

Laurel/Hattiesburg. Laurel shocked some people by beating WJ..Hattiesburg has to not let the petal loss carry over to this week

Completely forgot about this game. I expect Hattiesburg to handle business. Still in shock that Laurel came back the way the they did.

I think they will. If anyone was at the HHS/Petal game as a non fan of either team they will tell you that HHS was the way better team. You cant have 2 snaps over the punter head and give a team the ball inside the 10yd line. And on another possession Petal went for it on 4th down HHS gets a stop but was called for a facemask penalty and that also led to a touchdown. I will give Petal credit on the game winning td after the HHS fumble. That was Petal best drive of the entire game and the Petal offense was poised and did not panic.

As far as small schools go, I think we will learn a lot about how much farther Taylorsville has went down based on how they perform against Bay Springs this Friday. Mize has a good team this year, but losing to them 56-6 is on another level. Bay Springs appears to be down this year as well after losing by 20 to South Pike. I think if Bay Springs wins this game by a 3-4 TD margin, it may be questioned if Taylorsville will be able to compete and win games in 1A this year.

You know SP with the new coach doesn't want to go 0-2.

They are knocking on the doorstep of it with Oxford this Friday unless they are poised for an upset but Fair has actually had decent success versus Oxford over the years. I think he beat them twice at Lafayette (with lesser talent) and when he was at Grenada. I am not positive on that but I think that may be right.

How has Taylorsville fallen so far off of the cliff so quickly? Where have all their players gone?

I’m going to throw this on here out of left field because I don’t want anyone to act surprised when it happens and not many people keep up with 1A football especially in North Mississippi but West Tallahatchie High School has a really good football team. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the North come down to them, Calhoun, and Simmons. Just a team for some of you to keep an eye on up here. We will find out just how good they are in a few weeks when they play Charleston but a hot take in 1A North is West Tally.

Bay springs shouldn’t have any trouble with Taylorsville at all. It’s just a really down year for them. The RB is a good player but they are just so young on the offensive line, it’s gonna be hard for him to be able to do a whole lot. I think they and Resurrection will battle it out for the 4th playoff spot. I think Stringer will dominate the region, then Lumberton and Richton will be 2 and 3.

Resurrection is terrible so I doubt there's any battle there. Unless I'm unaware of new talent at Resurrection

Yes. I believe Taylorsville will beat them. And they may even beat richton and finish 3rd. I just don’t see them beating Lumberton and Lumberton isn’t that good either this year.

Yep. When I saw Richton lost to St Patrick in the jamboree I knew that whole division was weak

I think the north could possibly come down to West Tally and Leflore County. Calhoun City will still be there, but I am not impressed by a 10 point win over Myrtle. Biggersville is down as well.

Basically, the real question in 1A this year is can anyone challenge Simmons? 1A as a whole is pretty weak this year outside of them. In my personal opinion, circle round 3 if whoever wins Region 8 (Stringer, Lumberton, Taylorsville) can win their way to that point. If I have it right, I believe Simmons would have to travel to one of those schools. That is what I believe will be Simmons’ biggest challenge.

I think it’s very possible Resurrection has a winless season unless they beat Christian Collegiate Friday.

Myrtle is a better football team than people realize. Calhoun City has a win over 2A Myrtle who will more than likely win their division. Also beat Charleston in the Jamboree and beat Water Valley in their spring game without many of their starters and they have one of the better coaches if not the best coach in 1A north MS. You will find out how good they are when they beat Aberdeen this week.

OS and Meridian are the two I'm most interested in. Does Meridian keep rolling against Neshoba or do they flop. And does OS make a leap from week 1 to 2 or does Petal hot clock them like Meridian.

Petal wins easily. Meridian will win and the following week vs Starkville will truly see where they stack up in 7a.
