Wow. Mizzou takes down Ole Miss. No Round 5 for State/OM. State vs Mizzou over breakfast tomorrow.

That likely ends any remaining hopes of an Oxford regional.

Ole Miss just made reservations for Hattiesburg

Could be. The latest D1 projections Monday had Tennessee in Hattiesburg and Ole Miss going to Kansas.

The key word being "projections" which can and will change. Also had Coastal going to Starkville.

For USM, I think Tennessee would be better. They have not seen any USM pitching, while OM has twice.

If USM is to advance, pitching will have to carry them. (as it has all year basically). I like the fact that

they are now seeding teams 17-32, and trying to match those with 1-16 accordingly.

Tennessee fans will just complain about there not being an Applebee's in Hattiesburg.  (They've done that before).

Certainly couldn’t ask for a better start for State.

A seven inning run rule game with minimal pitching utilized.
I don’t care to win the whole thing but one or two more wins would be nice. Maybe move us a notch or two.

I believe that probably locks up a host spot for State. Avoided a possible RPI hit that a Mizzou loss could bring. Would take an awful lot happening now for it to not happen.

State vs Georgia tomorrow afternoon. Curious to see how State looks in that one. On one hand it may not mean just a ton, on the other hand maybe State wants revenge for the sweep at DNF that I’m not totally sure State has fully recovered from yet, given how they looked the last 7 weeks of league play.

From a fan’s perspective, it has been a while since State has stuck around for more than a cup of coffee in Hoover so it would be nice to see them win at least one more. I believe 2013 is the last time they were still around in Hoover on Saturday.

We could have won all three games against UGA in the regular season but obviously did not. I would like to see us win today just for the simple fact that we need a win. We will see how it goes (weather permitting).

Can’t say I love the combo of playing Georgia combined with the ball has been flying out of the stadium in Hoover this week. Through 6 games they’d already surpassed the homer total from the entire tournament last year,

That, plus Duke Stone struggling pretty badly the last few weeks and being on the mound today, doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies about today. But we shall see. Maybe State plays well and Georgia’s motivation is a little down compared to usual.

Not much to say. State did not play badly but Georgia was just a bit better again.
Story of State’s season. Against the better teams we are competitive but not quite as good as them.
But when the Regionals start, everyone is 0-0.

I think you pretty much nailed it B4. State is good, Georgia is better.

I don’t think much would surprise me about however State does in the postseason. They’re a couple of little things away from being elite, but also those little things may have them losing a home Regional.

I predict we win our Regional and lose in a Super Regional.

Why?

Generally speaking we have beaten teams worse than us and lost to teams better than us. And I don’t see that changing now.

I think I agree with you. The glass half full view says that Oak is an elite postseason coach, or at least he was at Virginia, and so an optimist would say they’re about to get hot like his teams often do. The glass half empty view is this team currently has one reliable starting pitcher, a leaky bullpen, and a little bit of a clutch hitting problem, so they’re no sure bet to get past a 2 or 3 seed at home.

I guess that’s why they play the games. If nothing else, they should be starting off at home against teams that aren’t as talented as the teams they’ve struggled with down the stretch, so that’s a decent starting point. And you see where it goes from there. Maybe you play well next weekend and get some help in the Regional you’re paired with, and suddenly you’re hosting a Super as well.

There are no sure things in the college baseball postseason. I think we’ve all seen plenty of proof of that in the last 5 years alone.

I am definitely a half glass full fan. But I am pragmatic as well. The first year for any HC is going to have some hiccups. I am still excited about our team and the future. Compared to 2022-25, we are night and day better.
Oak is an elite coach and this year we have seen just a small sample of what his teams are capable of doing and we will continue to get better.

As you noted, Regionals and SR’s are a crap shoot. You never know how they are going to turn out.

Lady Dawgs take down Oklahoma 11-9 with a huge comeback win. One win away from the WS.
I will say this, our girls have some grit. Down 4 runs and they did not throw in the towel.

That pick off at 1st to end the fifth inning was the turning point. Our girls got some momentum from that and were not going to be denied.

What an unreal comeback for USM late last night. Down 6-2 in the 9th and won via walk off grand slam.

Yep. I actually cut the TV off and went to bed. Thought I was I seeing a misprint this morning when I saw the score. Heck of a win for USM. Just hope they are not using up all of their good karma too soon.

Can’t decide if they are just really good in close games and that’s gonna pay off in the postseason, or if they are playing with fire too much and the close game magic is going to run its course soon.

D1’s latest Regional projections have State as the very last host at number 16, behind Arkansas who they have in now at 15. Can’t say I love the idea of that, especially given that Arkansas and Oregon (who they now have out) are still alive in their league tourneys.

I don’t think at this point State getting snubbed is totally out of the question.

USM vs ULL for the Sun Belt tourney title this afternoon.

Elsewhere,  D1 and Baseball America both have State not hosting now, after Arkansas and Oregon’s hot weeks. I hope they are mistaken.
