Dawg83
Sheesh. Georgia wins 10-9 and strands the tying and winning runs on base after State was down 10-2 in the 7th. Crazy game. That’s now 4 of State’s 5 losses being in one run games, and the only one that wasn’t was a tie game in the 8th inning.
Bulldogs4
Not necessarily a bad loss for State as we were about due for one. But you know the Georgia players and coaches ***** were clenched tight from the seventh inning on. Even though we played poor early on that was a nice comeback. This team rarely if ever is going to be completely out of a game. Tonight should have been one of those nights down eight runs but we did not throw in the towel. Reminds of the ‘85 & ‘89 teams with the ability to score runs in bunches and at any point in the game. And especially with two outs. I called it that Ole Miss was going to play better this weekend and with this win, they definitely have a good chance to win the series against Florida. And now maybe USM will get back on track. Baseball is a fickle game. Old Mo can come and evaporate in a hurry.
Dawg83
Biggest development for State last night may have been that Jack Bauer really pitched well. I had kinda written him off for this season after a very shaky start, but if he’s suddenly someone who can pitch effectively for you on weekends now, what a weapon out of the pen. He is still a Freshman. Coach O’Connor & Parker were smart to not pitch him in a game for that three week period. Now he has some confidence and he seems to be pitching well. They exercised patience which us fans seem to rarely have these days. We want things to be perfect yesterday when in reality development is an evolving situation. Especially for young players. You see young guys develop over the course of the career all the time, but to see in-season development like Bauer seems to have had definitely raises some eyebrows. We’ll see what happens portal-wise but based off this year and knowing how much freshmen and sophomore arm talent State has, I think the 2027 pitching staff has a chance to be maybe the best in school history. Reminder, none of State’s sophomore starting pitchers are draft eligible this year, either. So Valincius/McPherson/Stone/Foster could all be back next year. And then obviously all the freshmen too. DrownInEtown
Too much firepower on this offense. Reminds me of the 2019 one with all those studs. This lineup may even be deeper We used a lot of arms last night but I guess that’s fine when u got a guy like Valincius who can give u 7 good innings the next day. I think we’ll bounce back tonight
Dawg83
UGA takes the series. I tip my cap to any team that finds a way to out duel Valincius and Georgia did. Just kept State totally at bay offensively all night.
Bulldogs4
Yep. Sometimes you have to give credit where credit is due. They had a couple more big hits than we did. We had our opportunities just did not cash in. As I said baseball is a fickle game. Just need to flush this one and come out tomorrow and play a bit better and get a win.
Dawg83
Ole Miss lost a similar game 2-0. Rubber game for them tomorrow. State will try to salvage a game.
Bulldogs4
USM lost yesterday to OD as well. All three teams need a win today. Especially all three LOL…

Dawg83
Georgia sweeps at The Dude. Can’t say I saw that one coming. I think UGA is really good and State is also really good but maybe less buttoned up than the Vandy and OM series would’ve led you to believe. It was a pretty uncharacteristic, Murphy’s law kind of weekend. State plays three unranked teams in a row the next three weeks. Need to get some W’s back if they want to be a Top 8 seed as everyone assumed was a formality until this weekend.
Dawg83
Funny thing about it, if you told me after the Arkansas series that State would go 6-3 in this Vandy/OM/UGA stretch, I probably would’ve taken it. But they picked the weirdest route to get there lol.
Insideradvantage
All my State “buds” had already prematurely anointed them the national champs after they swept OM. These same people don’t seem to get the college baseball season is about getting hot at just the right time.

Yeahhhh I heard a lot of “best team ever” talk this week that I thought was a little premature. Still think this is a really good team and capable of winning the whole thing. But there are other really good teams too capable of beating State. Add UGA to that list.
hasbeen67
Too bad the new Pirates shortstop isn't a sophomore at MSU.
Dawg83
Huge road series win for Ole Miss. Really and truly the State weekend has been an outlier so far in league play, the other three weekends they’ve kinda gotten what they needed. USM also won their road series, but kinda continued the trend of not being terribly impressive against lesser teams. Big series for all three next week. USM travels to Lafayette to play the Ragin Cajuns, Ole Miss hosts the purple and gold Cajuns, and State hosts everybody’s favorite and least controversial team, Tennessee. All three in-state schools need to take their series if we are being honest.

Bulldogs4
This team is far from the best ever. We have lots good pieces but I think we got just a bit too comfortable and overconfident. And we were humbled for it. Coach was fussing at the team after the game Tuesday night about having a poor approach to the game. I kind of think he might have seen this coming. Lesson learned and I do think we will benefit from this later in the season. Quite frankly Georgia just played better than we did across all phases of the game each of the three games. David44
Not a great weekend for USM or MS. Ole Miss righted the ship. Somehow USM still in the top 10 D1 baseball. The loss in Game 2 to ODU really came in 1 inning. Colby Lewis came in with 2 on 2 out, and gave up 6 runs, which was shocking considering how reliable he has been from the pen. Dawg83
If nothing else State has largely handled its business in the midweek. Underrated quality win last night against UAB. I think as of today all three MS teams are in the Top 16 of the RPI still. So the dream of three Mississippi host sites still lives for now. Lot of season left to go, obviously. Weekend predictions: State takes 2 from Tennessee Ole Miss sweeps LSU (I’m not buying LSU still and I think OM is better than their conference record). USM wins two in Cajunland
David44
USM gets their midweek game 3-2 over UNO. Not impressive at first glance, but I saw a lot of positives in that game. 3 runs on 10 hits + 6 walks certainly tells you they left lots on base, but several of those rallies started with 2 outs. And there were some very hard hit balls that the baseball gods just decided were going to be outs. Most encouraging was that they kept grinding out at bats and applying pressure on UNO. in some of the losses lately, I saw a team that made one push after getting behind and then just kinda faded away. Good to see some fight from them. Edited April 9 by David44
Bulldogs4
State is in one of those funks that happen in baseball. Playing just well enough to lose by one run and playing just poorly enough to lose by one run. Plus just had some tough fortune tonight in the eighth inning. Defensively and offensively as well. Just got to play through it and we will be fine.
Dawg83
The concern of losing a lot of close games is something to chew on. A law of averages thing that’s bound to flip? Or an omen for the late season stretch run? Either way, tough spot for State right now. They really need to find a way to win these next two games or else they’ve pretty much undone the great position they had put themselves in about 10-12 days ago.
